A remote control apparatus for a light vehicle having an engine, a movably mounted saddle-type seat, and a storage box positioned below the seat, the remote control apparatus including a portable transmitter and a receiver, wherein the portable transmitter is provided to be carried by a user remotely from the vehicle, and is operable to send signals to the receiver. The receiver is disposed in one of the storage box and the seat so as to be protected from adverse environmental conditions, and receives the signals from the portable transmitter. When a signal received by said receiver is a predetermined ID signal, the remote control system operates to enable at least starting of the engine. Thus it is unnecessary to cover the receiver with a cover member made of a synthetic resin material as has conventionally been done, and accordingly the conventional necessity for re-adjustment of the receiver having the cover member applied thereto is eliminated, while still assuring reliable, water-proof performance of the receiver.

A remote control apparatus for a light vehicle comprising an engine, a pivotally mounted saddle-type seat, and a storage box positioned below the seat, the remote control apparatus comprising: a portable transmitter and a receiver; wherein the portable transmitter is provided to be carried by a user remotely from the vehicle, and is operable to send signals to the receiver; the receiver is disposed the storage box so as to be protected from adverse environmental conditions, and receives the signals from the portable transmitter; wherein the engine is disposed below said storage box, the storage box comprises a maintenance lid for allowing maintenance to be performed on the engine disposed therebelow, the maintenance lid is provided for opening and closing movement on a bottom wall of said storage box, and said receiver is disposed in said storage box in such a manner as to be covered with part of said maintenance lid in a closed position of the maintenance lids, and when a signal received by said receiver is a predetermined ID signal, the remote control system operates to enable at least staffing of the engine. 2. The remote control apparatus of claim 1, wherein the seat is mounted so as to overlie the storage box as a lid therefor, such that when the vehicle is in use, the receiver is positioned within the storage box and the seat is in the closed position so as to cover the storage box, thereby protecting the receiver from said adverse environmental effects. 3. The remote control apparatus of claim 1, wherein the vehicle further comprises a handlebar for steering the vehicle, and a seat latch mechanism for maintaining the seat in a closed position thereof, and wherein the remote control system is also operable to enable at least one of steering of the handlebar and operation of the seat latching mechanism. 4. A remote control apparatus for a light vehicle comprising an engine, a pivotally mounted saddle-type seat, and a storage box positioned below the seat, the remote control apparatus comprising: a portable transmitter and a receiver; wherein the portable transmitter is provided to be carried by a user remotely from the vehicle, and is operable to send signals to the receiver; the receiver is disposed in one of the storage box and the seat so as to be protected from adverse environmental conditions, and receives the signals from the portable transmitter; when a signal received by said receiver is a predetermined ID signal, the remote control system operates to enable at least starting of the engine, wherein the receiver comprises a circuit board, an antenna, a reception circuit, and a housing accommodating the circuit board therein, wherein the antenna is disposed on a first face of the circuit board, the reception circuit is disposed on a second, opposing face of the circuit board; and wherein the engine is disposed below said storage box, the storage box comprises a maintenance lid for allowing maintenance to be performed on the engine disposed therebelow, the maintenance lid is provided for opening and closing movement on a bottom wall of said storage box, and said receiver is disposed in said storage box in such a manner as to be covered with part of said maintenance lid in a closed position of the maintenance lid. 5. A light vehicle, comprising: a saddle-type seat; a storage box positioned below the seat, wherein the seat is pivotally mounted on the vehicle and overlies the storage box as a selectively openable and closable lid therefor; and a remote control system for enabling operation of the vehicle, the remote control system comprising a portable transmitter to be carried by a user and a receiver mounted within the storage box so as to be protected from adverse environmental effects by the storage box and the seat when the seat is in the closed position thereof; said vehicle further comprising an engine disposed below said storage box, wherein the storage box comprises a maintenance lid for allowing maintenance to be performed on the engine disposed therebelow, the maintenance lid is provided for opening and closing movement on a bottom wall of said storage box, and said receiver is disposed in said storage box so as to be covered with part of said maintenance lid in a closed position of the maintenance lid. 6. The vehicle of claim 5, wherein the receiver operates to receive signals from the portable transmitter, and when a signal received by said receiver is a predetermined ID signal, the controller operates to enable at least starting of the engine. 7. The vehicle of claim 5, further comprising a handlebar for steering the vehicle and a seat latch mechanism for maintaining the seat in a closed position, and wherein the remote control system is operable to enable starting of the engine and at least one of enabling steering of the handlebar and enabling operation of the seat latching mechanism.
