It relates to a lead-free and cadmium-free glass enamel coating made primarily by utilizing at least one or more of lead-free and cadmium-free glass compositions comprising in weight percent from about 26% to about 63% SiO2, from about 2% to about 10.5% ZnO, from about 8% to about 20% B2O3, from about 0.1% to about 10% Bi2O3, up to about 12% Na2O, from about 0.1% to about 17% K2O, up to about 6% Li2O, from about 0.1% to about 22% of Ta2O5, from about 0.0% to about 22% of Nb2O5, up to about 8% from each of Al2O3, TiO2, ZrO2, BaO and SrO, from about 0.1% to about 7% Sb2O3, up to about 7% F2, up to about 4% from each of CaO, Mo2O3 and MgO, and from about 0.1% to about 4% of one or more of La2O3, Nd2O3, Pr2O3 and Ce2O3.

A lead-free, glass frit consisting essentially of in percent by weight from about 26% to about 63% SiO2, from about 2% to about 10.5% ZnO, from about 8% to about 20% B2O3, from about 0.1% to about 10% Bi2O3, up to about 12% Na2O, from about 0.1% to about 17% K2O, up to about 6% Li2O, from about 0.1% to about 22% of Ta2O5, from about 0% to about 22% of Nb2O5, up to about 8% of each of Al2O3, TiO2, ZrO2, BaO and SrO, from about 0.1% to about 7% Sb2O3, up to about 7% F, up to about 4% of each of CaO, Mo2O3 and MgO, and from about 0.1% to about 4% of one or more of La2O3, Nd2O3, Pr2O3 or Ce2O3. 2. The glass frit composition according to claim 1 consisting essentially of in percent by weight from about 28% to about 60% SiO2, from about 3% to about 10.5% ZnO, from about 9% to about 19% B2O3, up to about 8% Na2O, up to about 6% of each of BaO, SrO, Al2O3, TiO2 and ZrO2, from about 0.1% to about 15% K2O, from about 0.1% to about 7% Bi2O3, from about 0.25% to about 4.5% Li2O, from about 0.1% to about 16% of each of Nb2O5 and Ta2O5, up to about 5% F, from about 0.1% to about 5% Sb2O3, up to about 3% of each of CaO, Mo2O3 and MgO, and from about 0.1% to about 3% of one or more of La2O3, Nd2O3, Pr2O3 or Ce2O3. 3. The glass frit composition according to claim 2 consisting essentially of in percent by weight from about 30% to about 56% SiO2, from about 4% to about 10% ZnO, from about 10% to about 18% B2O3, from about 0.1% to about 5% of each of Na2O, Al2O3, TiO2 and ZrO2, from about 0.25% to about 13.5% K2O, from about 0.25% to about 3% Bi2O3, from about 0.5% to about 3% Li2O, from about 0.25% to about 11% of Ta2O5, from about 0.1% to about 11% Nb2O5, up to about 4% of each of BaO and SrO, from about 0.25% to about 3.5% Sb2O3, from about 0.1% to about 3.5% F, up to about 2% of each of CaO, Mo2O3 and MgO, and from about 0.25% to about 2% of one or more of La2O3, Nd2O3, Pr2O3 or Ce2O3. 4. The glass frit according to claim 1 wherein the Ta2O5 is present in an amount of from about 0.25% to about 11%. 5. The glass frit according to claim 1 which is substantially free of Nb2O5. 6. The glass frit according to claim 3 which is substantially free of Nb2O5. 7. The glass frit according to claim 1 wherein the Bi2O3 is present in an amount of from about 0.25% to about 3%. 8. The glass frit according to claim 3 which has a coefficient of thermal expansion of from about 65��10-7/�� C. to about 90��10-7/�� C. 9. A glass enamel composition comprising the glass frit composition according to claim 1. 10. A glass enamel composition comprising the glass frit composition according to claim 3. 11. A glass enamel composition comprising the glass frit composition according to claim 4. 12. A glass enamel composition comprising the glass frit composition according to claim 5. 13. A glass enamel composition comprising the glass frit composition according to claim 7. 14. A glass enamel composition comprising the glass frit composition according to claim 4 together with a vehicle selected from the group consisting of water miscible vehicle, thermoplastic vehicle, spray vehicle, roller coater vehicle, pad transfer vehicle, UV curable vehicle, and mixtures thereof. 15. A glass enamel composition comprising the glass frit composition according to claim 1 together with a vehicle selected from the group consisting of water miscible vehicle, thermoplastic vehicle, spray vehicle, roller coater vehicle, pad transfer vehicle, UV curable vehicle, and mixtures thereof.
