A microwave energy interactive insulating material is provided. The material may include a susceptor film comprising a microwave energy interactive material supported on a first polymeric film layer, a moisture-containing layer superposed with the microwave energy interactive material, and a second polymeric film layer joined to the moisture-containing layer in a predetermined pattern, thereby forming at least one closed cell between the moisture-containing layer and the second polymeric film layer. The closed cell is capable of inflating upon exposure to microwave energy.

What is claimed is: 1. A microwave packaging material comprising: (a) a susceptor film comprising a microwave energy interactive material supported on a first polymeric film layer; (b) a moisture-containing layer superposed with the microwave energy interactive material; and (c) a second polymeric film layer joined to the moisture-containing layer in a predetermined pattern, thereby forming at least one closed cell between the moisture-containing layer and the second polymeric film layer, wherein the moisture-containing layer is positioned between the microwave energy interactive material and the second polymeric film layer. 2. The microwave packaging material of claim 1, wherein the closed cell inflates in response to being exposed to microwave energy. 3. The microwave packaging material of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first polymeric film layer and the second polymeric film layer comprises a biaxially-oriented polyester. 4. The microwave packaging material of claim 1, wherein the first polymeric film layer and the second polymeric film layer each independently comprise a biaxially-oriented polyester. 5. The microwave packaging material of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first polymeric film layer and the second polymeric film layer comprises an amorphous polyester. 6. The microwave packaging material of claim 1, wherein the first polymeric film layer and the second polymeric film layer each independently comprise an amorphous polyester. 7. The microwave packaging material of claim 1, wherein the moisture-containing layer comprises a paper, a paperboard, or any combination thereof. 8. The microwave packaging material of claim 1, wherein the first polymeric film layer comprises a biaxially-oriented polyester, the moisture-containing layer comprises a paper, and the second polymeric film layer comprises a biaxially-oriented polyester. 9. The microwave packaging material of claim 1, wherein the first polymeric film layer comprises a biaxially-oriented polyester, the moisture-containing layer comprises a paperboard, and the second polymeric film layer comprises an amorphous polyester. 10. The microwave packaging material of claim 1, further comprising a dimensionally-stable substrate at least partially overlying and joined to the first polymeric film layer. 11. A blank for a carton comprising a plurality of panels joined along fold lines, wherein the microwave packaging material of claim 1 at least partially overlies at least one of the panels. 12. A carton for heating a food item therein, the carton comprising: a top panel; and a bottom panel joined to the top panel; wherein the microwave packaging material of claim 1 at least partially overlies at least one of the top panel and the bottom panel. 13. A flexible sleeve for heating a food item therein, the sleeve comprising a sheet of microwave packaging material according to claim 1, the sheet having at least a first edge and a second edge in an opposed relation, wherein the sheet is folded over with the first edge and the second edge in substantial alignment to define an interior space capable of receiving the food item. 14. A flexible pouch for heating a food item therein, the pouch comprising: a first sheet of insulating microwave packaging material according to claim 1 and a second sheet of microwave packaging material according to claim 1 arranged such that the second polymeric film layer of the first sheet is in a face-to-face relation with the second polymeric film layer of the second sheet; wherein the first sheet and the second sheet are joined along at least a portion of respective edges thereof. 15. A flexible pouch for heating a food item therein, the pouch comprising: a first panel comprising the microwave packaging material of claim 1; and a second panel comprising a susceptor, wherein the first panel and the second panel are joined along at least a portion of respective edges thereof, thereby defining a cavity capable of receiving the food item. 16. A construct for enhancing the browning and/or crisping of a food item including a dough capable of rising, the construct comprising the microwave packaging material of claim 1, wherein the closed cell inflates when exposed to microwave energy to bring at least a portion of the first polymeric film layer into contact with the dough, and wherein as the dough rises, the insulating microwave packaging material yields as needed to accommodate the rising dough. 17. A baking disk comprising a circumferential portion and a central portion, the circumferential portion comprising an abuse-tolerant microwave packaging material, and the central portion comprising at least one, sheet of microwave packaging material according to claim 1. 18. The baking disk of claim 17, further comprising a susceptor material overlying at least a portion of the abuse-tolerant microwave packaging material. 19. The microwave packaging material of claim 1, further comprising at least one microwave energy inactivated area.
