A disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body and having a chassis, a non-removable absorbent core component disposed in a crotch region of the chassis, and a replaceable absorbent core component disposed in capillary liquid communication with the non-removable absorbent core component. The replaceable absorbent core component may be removed and a like component may be substituted in place of the removed component without the removal of the absorbent article from the wearer. The replaceable absorbent core component may be disposed inside an openable chassis pocket, with access for its removal and replacement provided by an aperture in a backsheet, an openable end of an external pocket, or an openable end of an internal pocket formed at an area of a waist end edge where the backsheet and a topsheet may be separated. Additional replaceable absorbent core components may also be incorporated.

What is claimed is: 1. A disposable absorbent insert adapted for use in a disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, comprising a first absorbent layer having an outer end, an opposing inner end, and an overall length measured from said inner end to said ou
What is claimed is: 1. A disposable absorbent insert adapted for use in a disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, comprising a first absorbent layer having an outer end, an opposing inner end, and an overall length measured from said inner end to said outer end, and respective first, second, third and fourth portions having equal lengths each comprising a quarter of said overall length, with said first portion comprising said inner end, said fourth portion comprising said outer end, and said second and third portions situated between said first and fourth portions, a substantially rectangular portion comprising at least part of said second, third or fourth portions, and a convergingly tapered portion having two non-intersecting sides, said tapered portion comprising at least part of said first portion and being its narrowest toward said inner end; and wherein the disposable absorbent insert has a major surface across said first, second, third and fourth portions, said major surface having a liquid permeable portion in at least said first portion, and a liquid impermeable portion in at least said fourth portion. 2. The disposable absorbent insert of claim 1 wherein the absorbent insert has an inner insert end and comprises an openable insertion pocket having an openable end facing away from the inner insert end. 3. The disposable absorbent insert of claim 1 wherein the absorbent insert comprises an insertion depth indicator adapted to provide an indication when a predetermined depth of insertion of the absorbent insert into the disposable absorbent article is reached. 4. The disposable absorbent insert of claim 3 wherein the insertion depth indicator comprises a mechanical indicator. 5. The disposable absorbent insert of claim 4 wherein the mechanical indicator comprises a mechanical fastener adapted to engage a surface of the chassis when the predetermined position is reached. 6. The disposable absorbent insert of claim 4 wherein the mechanical indicator has a shape adapted to engage a portion of the chassis when the predetermined position is reached and thereby limit a depth of insertion. 7. The disposable absorbent insert of claim 4 wherein the mechanical indicator has a predetermined coefficient of friction to an adjacent surface of the chassis when the predetermined position is reached. 8. The disposable absorbent insert of claim 7 wherein the predetermined coefficient of friction to the adjacent surface of the chassis provides a relatively lower resistive force during the insertion of the disposable absorbent insert in the predetermined orientation and provides a relatively higher resistive force when an insertion of the disposable absorbent insert in an orientation different from the predetermined orientation is attempted. 9. The disposable absorbent insert of claim 3 wherein the insertion depth indicator comprises a visible indicator. 10. The disposable absorbent insert of claim 9 wherein the visible indicator comprises a line to indicate when the predetermined position is reached. 11. The disposable absorbent insert of claim 9 wherein the visible indicator comprises a graphical object that aligns with an indicium on an adjacent portion of the chassis to form a composite graphical object when the predetermined position is reached. 12. The disposable absorbent insert of claim 1 wherein the absorbent insert has a bifurcated shape. 13. The disposable absorbent insert of claim 1 wherein the disposable absorbent insert has an outer end shaped to form an integral pull tab for removal of the disposable absorbent insert from the absorbent article. 14. The disposable absorbent insert of claim 1 wherein the disposable absorbent insert comprises a multi-piece absorbent structure. 15. A disposable absorbent insert adapted for use in a disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, comprising a first absorbent layer, an inner end, an outer end, and an overall length measured from said inner end to said outer end, and a major surface comprising respective first, second, third and fourth portions having equal lengths each comprising a quarter of said overall length, with said first portion ending at said inner end, said fourth portion ending at said outer end, and said second and third portions situated between said first and fourth portions, the first portion having an area less than an area of either of the second or third portions, and wherein the major surface has a liquid permeable portion in at least the first portion, and a liquid impermeable portion in at least the fourth portion. 16. An article of commerce comprising a disposable absorbent insert adapted for use in a disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, the absorbent insert comprising a first absorbent layer having an outer end, an opposing inner end, and an overall length measured from said inner end to said outer end, and respective first, second, third and fourth portions having equal lengths each comprising a quarter of said overall length, with said first portion comprising said inner end, said fourth portion comprising said outer end, and said second and third portions situated between said first and fourth portions, a substantially rectangular portion comprising at least part of said second, third or fourth portions, and a tapered portion having two non-intersecting sides, said tapered portion comprising at least part of said first portion and being its narrowest toward said inner end, wherein the disposable absorbent insert has a major surface across said first, second, third and fourth portions, said major surface having a liquid permeable portion in at least said first portion, and a liquid impermeable in at least the fourth region, the article of commerce further comprising instructions for inserting the absorbent insert into the absorbent article, or removing the absorbent insert from the absorbent article, or replacing the absorbent insert by removing the absorbent insert from the absorbent article and inserting a like replacement absorbent insert into the absorbent article. 17. The article of commerce of claim 16 wherein the absorbent insert comprises an insertion pocket and the instructions include instructions for using the insertion pocket to insert the absorbent insert into the absorbent article.
