A gas chromatograph (GC) module for mounting in a gas chromatograph assembly, the GC module comprising: a support structure; a separation device operable to separate components of a gas, the separation device being mounted to the support structure and comprising at least one column wound into a coil; and a circuit assembly mounted to the support structure and comprising non-volatile memory for storing information relating to the operation of the gas chromatograph assembly with the GC module; and wherein the at least one column is encapsulated in a conductive resin. 2. The GC module of claim 1, wherein the circuit assembly further comprises a printed circuit board to which the non-volatile memory is mounted. 3. The GC module of claim 2, wherein the printed circuit board is a flexible circuit board. 4. The GC module of claim 2, wherein the non-volatile memory comprises electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM). 5. The GC module of claim 2, wherein the circuit assembly further comprises a detector for detecting the components of the gas, the detector being mounted to the printed circuit board. 6. The GC module of claim 5, wherein the circuit assembly further comprises a pressure sensor for measuring the pressure of the gas provided to the GC module, the pressure sensor being mounted to the printed circuit board. 7. The GC module of claim 2, further comprising a detector for detecting the components of the gas, the detector being mounted to the printed circuit board. 8. The GC module of claim 1, wherein the at least one column comprises a plurality of columns. 9. The GC module of claim 1, wherein the non-volatile memory stores information selected from the group consisting of factory calibration information, chromatographic calibration constants, settings for control devices and information identifying the gas chromatograph and combinations of the foregoing. 10. The GC module of claim 7, wherein the detector comprises a thermal conductivity detector. 11. A gas chromatograph (GC) module for mounting in a gas chromatograph assembly having a microprocessor, the GC module comprising: a support structure; a column assembly secured to the support structure, the column assembly comprising at least one column for separating components of a gas, the at least one column being wound into a coil; a printed circuit board mounted to the support structure; and an electronic device mounted to the printed circuit board and operable to provide information about the operation of the gas chromatograph with the GC module to the microprocessor, the electronic device not being a detector for detecting the components of the gas; wherein the support structure comprises a mandrel and wherein the coil is disposed around the mandrel; and wherein the mandrel comprises a valve assembly comprising a plurality of connected plates, the valve assembly being operable to control the flow of the gas to the at least one column, wherein the valve assembly is movable between two states. 12. The GC module of claim 11, wherein the electronic device is selected from the group consisting of a pressure sensor and non-volatile memory. 13. The GC module of claim 12, wherein the electronic device comprises a pressure sensor and non-volatile memory, and wherein the pressure sensor is operable to measure the pressure of the gas provided to the GC module, and the non-volatile memory is operable to store information relating to the operation of the gas chromatograph assembly with the GC module. 14. The GC module of claim 13, further comprising a detector for detecting the components of the gas, the detector being mounted to the printed circuit board. 15. The GC module of claim 11, wherein the valve assembly comprises a first plate, a second plate, a third plate, a first flexible diaphragm and a second flexible diaphragm, and wherein the first diaphragm is disposed between the first and second plates and the second diaphragm is disposed between the second and third plates. 16. A gas chromatograph (GC) module for mounting in a gas chromatograph assembly, the GC module comprising: a support structure comprising a mandrel secured to a detector plate, the support structure having a flow network formed therein through which gas may flow, the detector plate including a surface with one or more openings formed therein, the openings being connected to the flow network; a separation device operable to separate components of a gas, the separation device being mounted to the support structure and comprising at least one column wound into a coil, the coil being disposed a pound the mandrel; and a circuit assembly mounted to the detector plate and comprising a pressure sensor operable to measure the pressure of the gas provided to the GC module, the pressure sensor extending into the one or more openings in the surface of the detector plate. 17. The GC module of claim 16, wherein the circuit assembly further comprises a printed circuit board to which the pressure sensor is mounted. 18. The GC module of claim 17, wherein the one or more openings in the surface of the detector plate comprises first and second openings, with the pressure sensor extending into the first opening, and wherein the circuit assembly further comprises a detector for detecting the components of the gas, the detector being mounted to the printed circuit board and extending into the second opening in the surface of the detector plate. 19. The GC module of claim 18, wherein the support structure further comprises a spool to which the at least one column is mounted, the spool being secured to the detector plate, and wherein the mandrel extends into the spool.
