According to one aspect, there is provided a refrigerator including a refrigerating chamber formed at a relatively upper portion of a refrigerator body and a freezing chamber formed at a relatively lower portion of the refrigerator body, which comprises an ice-making chamber which is partitioned in the refrigerating chamber by insulating walls and includes an icemaker for making ice and an ice storage for storing the ice made in the icemaker. The temperature in the refrigerating chamber can be accurately controlled, the loss of cold air can be minimized and the structures for supplying water into the icemaker and the dispenser can be simplified.

The invention claimed is: 1. A refrigerator comprising: a refrigerator body; a refrigerating compartment and a freezing compartment being configured to maintain operating temperatures tbat differ, with the freezing compartment having an operating temperature that is lower than an operating temperature of the refrigerating compartment; a refrigerator door configured to open and close at least a portion of the refrigerating compartment; a dispenser positioned on the refrigerator door; an ice compartment defined within the refrigerating compartment by one or more insulating walls; and an ice discharge duct that is configured to penetrate at least one of the insulating walls defining the ice compartment, and that is configured to, when the refrigerator door is positioned to close the portion of the refrigerating compartment that the refrigerator dour is configured to open and close, define a portion of an ice flow passage that enables passage of ice from within the ice compartment to the dispenser, wherein the ice discharge duct is configured to define the portion of the ice flow passage through a front of the insulating walls, which is configured to cover a surface of the ice compartment that is otherwise exposed as a consequence of the refrigerator door being oriented in an open position. 2. The refrigerator of claim 1 further comprising an insulating cover configured to open and close the ice discharge duct independent of opening and closing the refrigerator door. 3. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the ice discharge duct is also configured to define the portion of the ice flow passage through a bottom of the insulating walls, which is configured to intersect the front of the insulating walls and that is configured to cover a surface of the ice compartment that is positioned closest to the freezing compartment, wherein the ice discharge duct is configured to penetrate the front and the bottom of the insulating walls at a point of intersection between the front and the bottom of the insutating walls. 4. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the ice discharge duct is configured to define the portion of the ice flow passage through a bottom of the insulating walls, which is configured to cover a surface of the ice compartment that is positioned closest to the freezing compartment. 5. The refrigerator of claim 1 further comprising: an ice storage bin; and an ice transporting mechanism configured to promote movement of ice from the ice storage bin to the dispenser through the ice flow passage defined by the ice discharge duct. 6. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the one or more insulating walls surround the ice compartment. 7. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the one or more insulating walls wrap around the ice compartment. 8. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the one or more insulating walls define the ice compartment as an independent structure in the refrigerating compartment. 9. A refrigerator comprising: a refrigerator body: a refrigerating compartment and a freezing compartment being configured to maintain operating temperatures that differ, with the freezing compartment having an operating temperature that is lower than an operating temperature of the refrigerating compartment: a refrigerator door configured to open and close at least a portion of the refrigerating compartment: a dispenser positioned on the refrigerator door: an ice compartment defined within the refrigerating compartment by one or more insulating walls: and an ice discharge duct that is configured to penetrate at least one of the insulating walls defining the ice compartment, and that is configured to, when the refrigerator door is positioned to close the portion of the refrigerating compartment that the refrigerator door is configured to open and close, define a portion of an ice flow passage that enables passage of ice from within the ice compartment to the dispenser, wherein the ice compartment heing defined within the refrigerating compartment by one or more insulating walls includes the ice compartment being defined within the refrigerating compartment by one or more shared insulating walls, the one or more shared insulating walls being configured to define a portion of the ice compartment and a portion of the refrigerating compartment. 10. The refrigerator of claim 9, further comprising a support structure configured to interface with a floor surface and to support a majority of the refrigerator's weight during operation, wherein the one or more shared insulating walls include a shared insulating wall defining a portion of the ice compartment that is nearest a top portion of the refrigerator when the refrigerator is positioned with the support structure bearing a majority of the refrigerator's weight. 11. The refrigerator of claim 9 wherein the one or more shared insulating walls include a shared insulating wall defining a rear portion of the ice compartment, the rear portion of the ice compartment being a portion of the ice compartment that is furthest from the refrigerator door when the refrigerator door is oriented in a closed position. 12. The refrigerator of claim 9 wherein the one or more shared insulating walls include a shared insulating wall having a surface with a first linear section dedicated to insulating the ice compartment and a second linear section dedicated to insulating the refrigerating compartment. 13. The refrigerator of claim 1 further comprising an ice maker located within the ice compartment. 14. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the one or more insulating walls include an insulating material. 15. The refrigerator of claim 14 wherein the insulating material includes at least one of polyurethane and Styrofoam. 16. The refrigerator of claim 9, wherein the ice discharge duct is configured to define the portion of the ice flow passage through a bottom of the insulating walls. 17. The refrigerator of claim 9, wherein the ice discharge duct is configured to define the portion of the ice flow passage through the front of the insulating walls. 18. A refrigerator comprising: a refrigerator body; a refrigerating compartment and a freezing compartment being configured to maintain operating temperatures that differ, with the freezing compartment having an operating temperature that is lower than an operating temperature of the refrigerating compartment; a refrigerator door configured to open and close at least a portion of the refrigerating compartment; a dispenser positioned on the refrigerator door; an ice compartment defined within the refrigerating compartment by one or more insulating walls; and an ice discharge duct that is configured to penetrate at least one of the insulating walls defining the ice compartment, and that is configured to define a portion of an ice flow passage that enables passage of ice from the inside of the ice compartment to the dispenser, when the refrigerator door is positioned to close the portion of the refrigerating compartment, wherein the ice discharge duct is configured to define the portion of the ice flow passage through a front of the insulating walls, which is configured to cover a surface of the ice compartment that is otherwise exposed as a consequence of the refrigerator door being oriented in an open position. 19. The refrigerator of claim 18 further comprising an insulating cover configured to open and close the ice discharge duct independent of opening and closing the refrigerator door. 20. The refrigerator of claim 18 wherein the ice discharge duct is also configured to define the portion of the ice flow passage through a bottom of the insulating walls, which is configured to intersect the front of the insulating walls and that is configured to cover a surface of the ice compartment that is positioned closest to the freezing compartment, wherein the ice discharge duct is configured to penetrate the front and the bottom of the insulating walls at a point of intersection between the front and the bottom of the insulating walls. 21. The refrigerator of claim 18 wherein the ice discharge duct is configured to define the portion of the ice flow passage through a bottom of the insulating walls, which is configured to cover a surface of the ice compartment that is positioned closest to the freezing compartment. 22. The refrigerator of claim 18 further comprising: an ice storage bin; and an ice transporting mechanism configured to promote movement of ice from the ice storage bin to the dispenser through the ice flow passage defined by the ice discharge duct. 23. he refrigerator of claim 18 wherein the one or more insulating walls surround the ice compartment. 24. A refrigerator comprising: a refrigerator body; a refrigerating compartment and a freezing compartment being configured to maintain operating temperatures that differ, with the freezing compartment having an operating temperature that is lower than an operating temperature of the refrigerating compartment; a refrigerator dour configured to open and close at least a portion of the refrigerating compartment; a dispenser positioned on the refrigerator door; an ice compartment defined within the refrigerating compartment by one or more insulating walls; and an ice discharge duct that is configured to penetrate at least one of the insulating walls defining the ice compartment, and that is configured to define a portion of an ice flow passage that enables passage of ice from the inside of the ice compartment to the dispenser, when the refrigerator door is positioned to close the portion of the refrigerating compartment, wherein the ice compartment being defined within the refrigerating compartment by one or more insulating walls includes the ice compartment being defined within the refrigerating compartment by one or more shared insulating walls, the one or more shared insulating walls being configured to define a portion of the ice compartment and a portion of the refrigerating compartment. 30. The refrigerator of claim 29, further comprising a support structure configured to interface with a floor surface and to support a majority of the refrigerator's weight during operation, wherein the one or more shared insulating walls include a shared insulating wall defining a portion of the ice compartment that is nearest a top portion of the refrigerator when the refrigerator is positioned with the support structure bearing a majority of the refrigerator's weight. 31.
