An automated banking machine (10) includes a user interface (12) including an opening (20). Users of the machine deliver individual sheets and stacks of sheets to and from the machine through the opening. Stacks of sheets may include sheets such as notes, checks or other documents. Stacks input to the machine may include mixtures of various types of sheets. The machine operates to receive notes, process checks and perform other operations. Notes received in the machine may be recycled and dispensed to other users. Checks processed by the machine may be imaged by an imaging device, cancelled and stored in the machine or alternatively returned to a user.

The method according to claim 9 and further comprising, generating a second identifying value through operation of the at least one processor responsive to receipt by the machine of the second check from the user, wherein the at least one processor operates to not store the second identifying value in associated relation with the second data in the at least one data store. 11. The method according to claim 7 and further comprising: (i) receiving further user account identifying information from a further user through at least one input device of the automated banking machine; (j) receiving through at least one input device of the automated banking machine, at least one input indicating that the further user wishes to make a second deposit into the ATM, wherein the second deposit includes at least one of a check and a currency bill; (k) operating the automated banking machine to communicate with at least one remote computer to determine if the further user account associated with the further user account identifying information, can have a third deposit transaction conducted thereon responsive to at least one message from the automated banking machine; (l) responsive to a positive determination in (k), operating the automated banking machine to communicate with the at least one remote computer to cancel the third deposit transaction; (m) responsive to a positive determination in (k), accepting the second deposit in the automated banking machine; (n) evaluating the second deposit through operation of the automated banking machine to determine a further value associated therewith; (o) subsequent to (n), operating the automated banking machine to communicate at least one further message with at least one remote computer to conduct a fourth deposit transaction on the further user account, wherein the fourth deposit transaction causes a deposit in the amount of the further value to be indicated as having been made to the further user account. 12. The method according to claim 11 and further comprising: operating the at least one processor in the automated banking machine to generate third data corresponding to a first further check accepted from the further user in (m) and a second identifying value, and storing the third data and second identifying value in the at least one data store. 13. The method according to claim 12 and further comprising: operating the at least one processor in the automated banking machine to generate fourth data corresponding to a second further check accepted from the further user in (m), and storing the fourth data and the second identifying value in associated relation in the at least one data store. 14. The method according to claim 13 and further comprising: determining at least one further bill value associated with at least one currency bill accepted through operation of the machine from the further user in (m); operating the at least one processor in the automated banking machine to cause the at least one further bill value to be stored in association with the second identifying value in the at least one data store. 15. The method according to claim 14 and further comprising: operating the automated banking machine to send the third data, fourth data and at least one further bill value in association with the second identifying value, to the at least one remote computer. 16. The method according to claim 5 wherein the first data comprises first image data corresponding to a visual representation of at least a portion of at least one side of the first check, and wherein the second data corresponds to second image data corresponding to a visual representation of at least a portion of at least one side of the second check, and further comprising: (h) operating the automated banking machine to communicate the first data and second data in association with the first identifying value, to the at least one remote computer. 17.
