The invention relates to antibodies which are directed against the FSAP Marburg I variant and to their preparation and use, in particular in therapy and diagnosis. The antibodies are characterized by the fact that they bind specifically to the FSAP MR I variant but not to the FSAP wild-type protein

The invention relates to antibodies which are directed against the FSAP Marburg I variant and to their preparation and use, in particular in therapy and diagnosis. The antibodies are characterized by the fact that they bind specifically to the FSAP MR I variant but not to the FSAP wild-type protein or other mutant variants which are characterized by amino acid substitutions at other positions in the FSAP protein.

The invention claimed is: 1. An antibody produced by a hybridoma cell line chosen from DSM ACC2674, DSM ACC2675, DSM ACC2676, DSM ACC2725, and DSM ACC2726. 2. The antibody of claim 1, wherein the antibody is linked to at least one of a solid phase and a component of a signal-generating system.

The invention claimed is: 1. An antibody produced by a hybridoma cell line chosen from DSM ACC2674, DSM ACC2675, DSM ACC2676, DSM ACC2725, and DSM ACC2726. 2. The antibody of claim 1, wherein the antibody is linked to at least one of a solid phase and a component of a signal-generating system. 3. A cell line which produces the antibody of claim 1, comprised of isolated cells chosen from animal, plant, fungal, and prokaryotic cells. 4. The cell line of claim 3, wherein the isolated cells are hybridoma cells. 5. The cell line of claim 4, chosen from DSM ACC2674, DSM ACC2675, DSM ACC2676, DSM ACC2725, and DSM ACC2726. 6. A method of separating molecules comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:1 from other molecules, comprising: linking at least one antibody of claim 1 to a solid phase; contacting the solid phase with a sample that may comprise at least one molecule comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:1; washing the solid phase; and eluting the at least one molecule comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:1 from the solid phase. 7. A method of detecting at least one FSAP Marburg I variant in a sample, comprising: providing a sample which may comprise at least one FSAP Marburg I variant antigen; contacting the sample with at least one antibody of claim 1, wherein the antibody is linked to a signal generating system comprising a label; and detecting a signal from the specific binding of the antibody to the at least one FSAP Marburg I variant antigen with the label, thereby detecting an FSAP Marburg I variant antigen in the sample. 8. The method of claim 7, wherein the at least one FSAP Marburg I variant comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:3. 9. The method of claim 7, wherein the antibody is linked to a solid phase. 10. The method of claim 7, wherein the signal from the label is quantitated.
