This invention concerns a distributed stereo audio system. Distributed stereo audio systems are used to provide stereo sound to several rooms or areas from a single source of signal. The system includes two or more speakers for the broadcast of stereo audio signals; a source of stereo audio signals; a stereo amplifier to amplify stereo audio signals and drive the speakers; and a mains operated electrical power supply to provide power to the amplifier. The amplifier is located in the same room as the speakers, and remote from the signal source and power supply. The amplifier is connected to the signal source and power supply by means of a category 5 four pair twisted cable which provides, in respective twisted pairs, right channel audio signals from the signal source to the amplifier, left channel audio from the signal source to the amplifier, DC power from the power supply to the amplifier, and control signals from the amplifier to the signal source.

A distributed stereo audio system, comprising: two or more speakers for the broadcast of stereo audio signals; a signal source which provides stereo audio signals; a stereo amplifier to amplify stereo audio signals and drive the speakers; and an electrical power supply to provide power to the stereo amplifier; wherein the stereo amplifier is located in the same room as the speakers and remote from the signal source and power supply; and wherein the stereo amplifier is connected to the signal source and power supply by means of a category 5 four pair twisted cable which provides audio signals from the signal source to the stereo amplifier and power from the power supply to the stereo amplifier. 2. The distributed stereo audio system of claim 1, wherein the stereo amplifier is connected directly to the signal source by means of the category 5 cable. 3. The distributed stereo audio system of claim 2, wherein the stereo amplifier is connected directly to the power supply by means of the category 5 cable. 4. The distributed stereo audio system of claim 1, wherein the stereo amplifier is connected to the signal source via a connecting block. 5. The distributed stereo system of claim 4, wherein the stereo amplifier is connected to the power supply via the connecting block. 6. The distributed stereo system of claim 1, wherein the signal source generates digital audio signals.
