A disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body and having a chassis, a non-removable absorbent core component disposed in a crotch region of the chassis, and a replaceable absorbent core component disposed in capillary liquid communication with the non-removable absorbent core component and having longitudinally disposed regions of liquid permeability and liquid impermeability on the same surface. The replaceable absorbent core component may be removed and a like component may be substituted without the removal of the absorbent article from the wearer. The replaceable absorbent core component may be disposed inside an openable chassis pocket, with access for its removal and replacement provided by an aperture in a backsheet, an openable end of an external pocket, or an openable end of an internal pocket formed at an area of a waist end edge where the backsheet and a topsheet may be separated.

What is claimed is: 1. A disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, comprising: a chassis forming a waist opening and a pair of leg openings and having longitudinally opposing first and second waist end edges, longitudinally opposing first and second waist regions adjacent to the respective waist end edges, and a crotch region longitudinally intermediate of the waist regions; a non-removable absorbent core component disposed in the crotch region; and a first replaceable absorbent core component disposed in capillary liquid communication with the non-removable absorbent core component and having a major surface having a liquid permeable region and a liquid impermeable region, the first replaceable absorbent core component having an outer distal end and an inner proximal end disposed relatively nearer the crotch region than the outer distal end, at least a portion of the liquid impermeable region extending longitudinally from the outer distal end toward the inner proximal end and at least a portion of the liquid permeable region being disposed longitudinally between the portion of the liquid impermeable region and the inner proximal end. 2. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the first replaceable absorbent core component extends from the crotch region beyond a waist end edge of the first waist region. 3. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the first replaceable absorbent core component comprises an openable insertion pocket having an openable end facing away from the inner proximal end. 4. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the first replaceable absorbent core component comprises an insertion depth indicator adapted to provide an indication when a predetermined depth of insertion of the first replaceable absorbent core component into the chassis is reached. 5. The disposable absorbent article of claim 4 wherein the insertion depth indicator comprises a mechanical indicator comprising a mechanical fastener adapted to engage a surface of the chassis when the predetermined position is reached. 6. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 comprising an openable chassis pocket formed by the chassis and having a shape, wherein the first replaceable absorbent core component has a shape corresponding to the shape of the openable chassis pocket and allowing the first replaceable absorbent core component to be inserted into the shaped openable chassis pocket in only a predetermined orientation. 7. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the first replaceable absorbent core component comprises a location stabilizer releasably attached to the chassis in a waistband region. 8. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the first replaceable absorbent core component has a generally planar body comprising longitudinally successive first, second, third, and fourth segments defined by respective quarters of its length, the first segment including the inner proximal end and having an area less than an area of any one of the second, third, and fourth segments, and the fourth segment including the outer distal end and having an area less than at least one of the second segment and the third segment. 9. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the outer distal end is shaped to form an integral pull tab for removal of the first replaceable absorbent core component from the absorbent article. 10. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the first replaceable absorbent core component comprises a multi-piece absorbent structure. 11. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the non-removable absorbent core component comprises a first absorbent layer extending from the first waist region into and ending in the crotch region and a second absorbent layer extending from the second waist region into and ending in the crotch region. 12. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the chassis comprises a first extensible waistband disposed in the first waist region and a second extensible waistband disposed in the first waist region, the second extensible waistband being disposed in a layered configuration with the first extensible waistband. 13. The disposable absorbent article of claim 12 wherein the chassis has a wearer-facing layer and a garment-facing layer and the first extensible waistband is attached to the wearer-facing layer, and the second extensible waistband is attached to the garment-facing layer. 14. The disposable absorbent article of claim 13 wherein the first extensible waistband and the second extensible waistband are separable for access into an openable chassis pocket formed by and between the wearer-facing layer and the garment-facing layer. 15. The disposable absorbent article of claim 14 wherein a portion of the first extensible waistband is unattached to the wearer-facing layer. 16. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the chassis comprises a first extensible waistband disposed in the first waist region and a second extensible waistband disposed in the first waist region relatively nearer the crotch region than the first extensible waistband. 17. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the chassis comprises an extensible waistband disposed in the first waist region and including a first portion and a second portion independently extensible from the first portion disposed relatively nearer the crotch region than the first portion. 18. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the chassis comprises a topsheet and a backsheet forming an openable chassis pocket having an openable end disposed in the first waist region, an extensible waistband attached to the topsheet adjacent to the openable end, and an extensible portion of the backsheet adjacent to the openable end. 19. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the chassis comprises a topsheet and a backsheet forming an openable chassis pocket adapted to receive the first replaceable absorbent core component and the first replaceable absorbent core component is removably disposed inside the openable chassis pocket. 20. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the chassis comprises a topsheet and a backsheet forming an openable chassis pocket adapted to receive the first replaceable absorbent core component, the first replaceable absorbent core component is removably disposed inside the openable chassis pocket, and the openable chassis pocket has an inner end located in the crotch region and formed by an area of joining of the topsheet and the non-removable absorbent core component, the backsheet and the non-removable absorbent core component, the topsheet and the backsheet and the non-removable absorbent core component, or the topsheet and the backsheet. 21. An article of commerce comprising a disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, the absorbent article comprising: a chassis forming a waist opening and a pair of leg openings and having longitudinally opposing first and second waist end edges, longitudinally opposing first and second waist regions adjacent to the respective waist end edges, and a crotch region longitudinally intermediate of the waist regions; a non-removable absorbent core component disposed in the crotch region; and a first replaceable absorbent core component disposed in capillary liquid communication with the non-removable absorbent core component and having a planar surface having a liquid permeable region and a liquid impermeable region, the first replaceable absorbent core component having an outer end and an inner end disposed relatively nearer the crotch region than the outer end, at least a portion of the liquid impermeable region extending longitudinally from the outer end toward the inner end and at least a portion of the liquid permeable region being disposed longitudinally between the portion of the liquid impermeable region and the inner end, the article of commerce further comprising instructions for removing the first replaceable absorbent core component from the absorbent article, or inserting the first replaceable absorbent core component into the absorbent article, or inserting a like replacement of the first replaceable absorbent core component into the absorbent article, or replacing the first replaceable absorbent core component by removing the first replaceable absorbent core component from the absorbent article and inserting a like replacement of the first replaceable absorbent core component into the absorbent article. 22.
