The invention relates to a stent-graft with a bioabsorbable structure and a permanent graft for luminal support and treatment of arterial fistulas, occlusive disease, and aneurysms. The bioabsorbable structure is formed from braided filaments of materials such as PLA, PLLA, PDLA, and PGA and the graft is formed from materials such as PET, ePTFE, PCU or PU.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method for fabricating a stent-graft, comprising: disposing a tubular body comprising bioabsorbable material on a mandrel; disposing a compliant and substantially non-absorbable graft layer on the mandrel such that one of the tubular body and the graft layer surrounds the other over at least a coextensive portion; and with the tubular body and the graft layer so disposed, adhering the graft layer to the tubular body with a bioabsorbable adhesive to form a stent-graft in which the tubular body is radially expandable and contractible and the graft layer tends to conform to the tubular body as the tubular body radially expands and contracts. 2. The method of claim 1, further including: forming the tubular body by helically winding a plurality of bioabsorbable filaments. 3. The method of claim 2, further including: annealing the tubular body at a temperature between a glass transition temperature of the bioabsorbable filaments and a melting point of the bioabsorbable filaments. 4. The method of claim 3, wherein said annealing of the tubular body is performed after said adhering the graft layer to the tubular body. 5. The method of claim 2, wherein said forming the bioabsorbable tubular body includes interbraiding the filaments. 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising: annealing the tubular body at a temperature between the glass transition temperature of the bioabsorbable material and a melting point of the bioabsorbable material. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein said disposing the graft layer on the mandrel includes surrounding the tubular body with the graft layer. 8. The method of claim 1, wherein said disposing the graft layer on the mandrel includes surrounding the graft layer with the tubular body. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein forming the tubular body comprises imparting a radially compressible and self-expandable character to the tubular body. 10. The method of claim 1, wherein said adhering the graft layer to the tubular body comprises applying an adhesive only to proximal and distal end portions of the coextensive portion. 11. A method of making a stent-graft comprising: braiding bioabsorbable filaments to form a tubular braid, the braid having a braid angle; disposing the braid on a mandrel; annealing the braid at a temperature between about the bioabsorbable filament glass transition temperature and about the melting point for a predetermined time to form an annealed stent; removing the stent from the mandrel, the stent having a filament crossing angle; providing a permanent graft; and adhering at least a portion of the graft to the annealed stent with a bioabsorbable adhesive to form an assembly. 12. The method of claim 11, wherein the permanent graft further comprises a braid angle and further including prior to the step of adhering matching the braid angle of the permanent graft to about the stent filament crossing angle. 13. The method claim 11, further comprising, prior to the step of adhering, applying said bioabsorbable adhesive to the surface of the stent. 14. The method of claim 11, further comprising, prior to the step of adhering, applying radial compression or axial elongation to the assembly to apply pressure over at least a portion of the stent and graft. 15. The method of claim 11, wherein the braid is annealed at a temperature of from about 60° C. to about 180° C. for a period of time of from about 5 minutes to about 120 minutes or annealed at a temperature of from about 130° C. to about 150° C. for a period of time of from about 10 minutes to about 20 minutes. 16. A method of making a stent-graft comprising the steps of: braiding bioabsorbable elements to form a bioabsorbable tubular braid, the braid having a braid angle; providing a permanent graft film, sheet, or tube; disposing one of the permanent graft film, sheet, or tube or the bioabsorbable tubular braid on a mandrel; disposing the other of the permanent graft film, sheet, or tube or the bioabsorbable tubular braid over at least a portion of the other; adhering the permanent graft film, sheet, or tube to the braid to form a braid-graft; annealing the braid-graft at a temperature between about the bioabsorbable elements glass transition temperature and about the melting point for a predetermined time to form the stent-graft; and removing the stent-graft from the mandrel. 17. The method of claim 16, wherein the graft film, sheet, or tube comprises ePTFE and PCU and the bioabsorbable filament comprises PLLA.
