A method of inhibiting growth—or inducing death of a cancer cell, the method comprising contacting the cell with an isolated monoclonal antibody that binds to: (a) the polypeptide shown in FIG. 115 (SEQ ID NO: 115); (b) a polypeptide encoded by the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:37; or (c) a polypeptide encoded by the full-length coding region of the nucleotide sequence SEQ ID NO:37, wherein the isolated monoclonal antibody competes for binding to the epitopes of SEQ ID NO:115 recognized by an antibody produced by the hybridoma selected from the group consisting of 3B5.1 (ATCC Accession No. PTA-6193), 12B9.1 (ATCC Accession No. PTA-6194) and 12G12.1 (ATCC Accession No. PTA-6195). 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the cancer cell is selected from the group consisting of breast, colon, rectum, endometrium, kidney, lung, ovary, skin, and liver. 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the cancer cell is a mammalian cell. 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the mammalian cell is a human cell. 5. A method of inhibiting growth of a cancer cell or inducing death of a cancer cell, the method comprising contacting the cell with an antibody produced by a hybridoma selected from the group consisting of Accession No. PTA-6193), 12B9.1 (ATCC Accession No. PTA-6194) and 12G12.1 ( ATCC Accession No. PTA-6195). 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the isolated monoclonal antibody is an antigen-binding fragment. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the isolated monoclonal antibody is a chimeric or a humanized antibody. 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the isolated monoclonal antibody is conjugated to a growth inhibitory agent. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein the isolated monoclonal antibody is conjugated to a cytotoxic agent. 10. The method of claim 9, wherein the cytotoxic agent is selected from the group consisting of toxins, antibiotics, radioactive isotopes and nucleolytic enzymes. 11. The method of claim 9, wherein the cytotoxic agent is a toxin. 12. The method of claim 11, wherein the toxin is selected from the group consisting of auristatin, maytansinoid and calicheamicin. 13. The method of claim 12, wherein the toxin is a maytansinoid. 14. The method of claim 11, wherein the toxin is selected from the group consisting of MMAE (mono-methyl auristatin E), MMAF and AEVB (auristatin E valeryl benzylhydrazone), and AFP (Auristatin F phenylene diamine). 15. The method of claim 14, wherein the toxin is MMAE. 16. The method of claim 14, wherein the toxin is MMAF. 17. The method of claim 9, wherein the toxin is covalently attached to the antibody by a linker. 18. The method of claim 17, wherein the linker is selected from the group consisting of maleimidocaproyl(MC), valine-citrulline(val-cit, vc), citrulline (2-amino-5-ureido pentanoic acid), PAB(p-aminobenzylcarbamoyl), Me(N-methyl-valine citrulline), MC(PEG)6-OH(maleimidocaproyl- polyethylene glycol), SPP (N-Succinimidyl 4-(2-pyridylthio) pentanoate), SMCC(N-Succinimidyl 4-(N-maleimidomethyl) cyclohexane-1carboxylate), and MC-vc-PAB. 19. The method of 18, wherein the linker is MC-vc-PAB. 20. The method of claim 1, wherein said isolated monoclonal antibody is produced in bacteria. 21. The method of claim 20, wherein said isolated monoclonal antibody is produced in CHO cells. 22. The method of claim 1, wherein said isolated monoclonal antibody is detectably labeled. 23. The method of claim 1, wherein the isolated monoclonal antibody comprises the six CDRs of the antibody produced by a hybridoma selected from the group consisting of 3B5.1 (ATCC Accession No. PTA-6193), 12B9.1 (ATCC Accession No. PTA-6194) and 12G12.1 (ATCC Accession No. PTA-6195).
