A collapsible truss assembly is described herein. One component includes a layered u-bracket including a first u-bracket connected to the collapsible truss assembly, having a first channel, a first surface opposing the channel, and a first aperture that spans from the first surface to the first channel and is of a particular diameter. The layered u-bracket also includes a second u-bracket having a second channel, a second surface opposing the second channel, and a second aperture that spans from the second surface to the second channel and is of the particular diameter. For the layered u-bracket, the second channel is flush with the first surface, and the first and second apertures are aligned.

What is claimed is: 1. A truss assembly, comprising: a truss member, including a portion of the truss member having walls formed from a first material; an internal support body, including an elongate body situated within the portion of the truss member, wherein: the internal support body includes a number of ribs along a longitudinal axis that are substantially flush with inner surfaces of the portion of the truss member; and the internal support body is formed from a second material; and a layered u-bracket including: a first u-bracket formed from the first material and having a channel that is flush with the portion of the truss assembly member; a second u-bracket formed from the second material and having a channel that is flush with the first u-bracket; and wherein each of the portions of the truss member, the internal support body, and the layered u-bracket has an aperture aligned from each other to receive and are connected by a connecting member. 2. The truss assembly of claim 1, wherein the first material is aluminum, the second material is nylon, and the second u-bracket has a longitudinal length less than a longitudinal length of the first u-bracket. 3. The truss assembly of claim 1, wherein the connecting member includes a screw threaded into a sleeve having a polygonal head that is housed in an annular portion of the second u-bracket that extends perpendicularly away from the first u-bracket on an external longitudinal-latitudinal planar surface of the second u-bracket. 4. The truss assembly of claim 3, wherein the annular portion includes a wall having an inner and outer surface, wherein the outer surface has a circular geometry and the inner surface has a polygonal geometry corresponding to the head of the sleeve. 5. A pivotal x-joint, comprising: first and second members, each having two aligned apertures through opposing first and second longitudinal-latitudinal walls; first and second internal support bodies, each including an elongate body configured substantially as a rectangular prism with rounded edges having an aperture extending vertically through opposing longitudinal-latitudinal walls that is aligned with the apertures through each truss member; a first layered u-bracket supporting one of the two truss members and a second layered u-bracket supporting other one of the two truss members, each layered u-bracket including a first and second u-bracket, wherein: the first u-bracket is substantially flush with one of the truss members and has an aperture through longitudinal-latitudinal surfaces; and the second u-bracket is substantially flush with the first u-bracket, has a longitudinal length shorter than a longitudinal length of the first u-bracket, and has an aperture through longitudinal-latitudinal surfaces that is aligned with the apertures of each of the first u-bracket, elongate body, and truss member; and a connecting member passing through the apertures of the two truss members, each elongate body, and each layered u-bracket. 6. The pivotal x-joint of claim 5, wherein the pivotal x-joint is at a longitudinal midpoint of the two truss members in the collapsible truss assembly having accordion-type truss connections in a portable shelter. 7. The pivotal x-point of claim 6, wherein the connecting member passes through, in order: the first layered u-bracket having the second u-bracket to the first u-bracket; the first longitudinal-latitudinal wall of the first truss member; the first internal support member; the second longitudinal-latitudinal wall of the first truss member; one or more washers; the first longitudinal-latitudinal wall of the second truss member; the second internal support member; the second longitudinal-latitudinal wall of the second truss member; and the second layered u-bracket having the first u-bracket to the second u-bracket. 8. A portable collapsible shelter, comprising: at least three legs; and at least two accordion-type collapsible truss assemblies connected to each leg, each accordion-type truss assembly including at least four truss members interconnected by at least two pivotal v-joints and at least two pivotal x-joints, wherein the at least two pivotal, x-joints each include: two of the at least four truss members aligned at an aperture at a longitudinal midpoint of each truss member, the two truss members each include an internal support body including an elongate body situated within each of the two truss members and each elongate body includes a number of ribs along a longitudinal axis of the elongate body that are substantially flush with inner surfaces of each of the two truss members, and each elongate body having an aperture aligned with the aperture of the truss members; at least two layered u-brackets, each supporting one of the two truss members about the aperture, wherein each layered u-bracket includes: a first u-bracket having a channel flush with an associated truss member; and a second u-bracket having a channel flush with the first u-bracket; and a connecting member connecting the two truss members, the two internal support bodies and the two layered u-brackets together. 9. The shelter of claim 8, wherein each layered u-bracket includes an aperture in longitudinal-latitudinal planar surfaces aligned with the aperture in the associated truss member. 10. The shelter of claim 8, wherein the connecting member includes a sleeve and passes through the apertures in the two truss members and the two layered u-brackets, and wherein the two layered u-brackets are separated by at least one washer. 11. The shelter of claim 8, wherein the shelter weighs less than thirty-five pounds.
