In a liquid dispensing system having a dispensing module and a gun manifold, the gun manifold includes a shelf portion that extends outwardly from its front face and the dispensing module includes a correspondingly shaped aperture configured to engage the shelf portion so that the dispensing module rests, or hangs, on the gun manifold without being held into place. From this position, the module can be easily and readily attached to the manifold. The shelf and aperture have complementary shapes and can be keyed so as to require the mating of the manifold and module in only one orientation. Additionally, an adaptor can be provided between the module and manifold so that smooth face manifolds and modules can still be coupled to corresponding manifolds and modules having shelves or apertures.

What is claimed is: 1. A liquid dispensing system, comprising: a first dispensing component including a first side and a second side, said first side defining a first plane, said first dispensing component comprising: a first air port through said first dispensing component, a first liquid port through said first dispensing component and spaced from said first air port, and a first interactive surface disposed between said first air port and said first liquid port, said first interactive surface comprising one of a projection extending from said first plane or a recess extending into said first dispensing component and beyond said first plane; a second dispensing component operatively coupled to said first dispensing component, said second dispensing component comprising: a second air port in communication with said first air port, a second liquid port in fluid communication with said first liquid port, and a second interactive surface disposed between said second air port and said second liquid port, said second interactive surface comprising the other of a projection or recess and interfitting with said first interactive surface when said first dispensing component is operatively coupled with said second dispensing component such that said first dispensing component is vertically and laterally aligned at a predetermined position on said second dispensing component; and at least one fastener for fastening said first component with said second component. 2. The liquid dispensing system of claim 1, wherein said second interactive surface has a shape that is complementary to said first interactive surface. 3. The liquid dispensing system of claim 1, wherein said first component is a gun manifold and said second component is an adaptor for coupling said gun manifold to a module, the liquid dispensing system further comprising a module operatively coupled to said adaptor, said module including a third air port communicating with said second air port and a third liquid port communicating with said second liquid port. 4. The liquid dispensing system of claim 1, wherein: said first component is a manifold and said first interactive surface is a projection; and said second component is an adaptor for coupling said manifold to a module, and said second interactive surface is a recess. 5. The liquid dispensing system of claim 4, further comprising: a module operatively coupled to said adaptor, said module including a third air port communicating with said second air port and a third liquid port communicating with said second liquid port. 6. A module for a liquid dispensing system, the liquid dispensing system including a module mounting surface, a first air port, a first liquid port, and a first interactive surface comprising one of a projection extending from the module mounting surface or a recess extending into the module mounting surface, the module comprising: a module body including a module surface; a second air port through said module body; a second liquid port through said module body; and a second interactive surface disposed between said second air port and said second liquid port, said second interactive surface comprising the other of a projection or a recess and adapted to interfit with the first interactive surface when said module surface is coupled to the module mounting surface such that the module is vertically and laterally aligned at a predetermined position on the module mounting surface regardless of the use of a fastener. 7. The module of claim 6, wherein the first interactive surface includes a recess extending into the module mounting surface, and wherein said second interactive surface includes a projection adapted to be received into the first interactive surface. 8. The module of claim 6, wherein the first interactive surface includes a projection extending outwardly from the module mounting surface, and wherein said second interactive surface includes a recess adapted to receive the first interactive surface. 9. The module of claim 6, wherein said second interactive surface is shaped complementary to the first interactive surface. 10. The module of claim 6, further comprising a recess spaced from said second interactive surface and formed around at least one of said second air port or said second liquid port. 11. A module for a thermoplastic liquid material dispensing system, the module comprising: a module body having a mounting face adapted to engage the thermoplastic liquid material dispensing system; an air port through said module body; a liquid port through said module body; and a channel in said mounting face and positioned between said air port and said liquid port, said channel defined by oppositely disposed sidewalls; said sidewalls defining a first converging portion and a second diverging portion along said channel. 12. A module for a thermoplastic liquid material dispensing system, the module comprising: a module body having a mounting face adapted to engage the thermoplastic liquid material dispensing system; a liquid port through said module body; and a recess in said mounting face; said recess defining a relatively narrower central portion, and relatively wider portions disposed on opposite sides of said narrower portion, when viewed along a direction normal to said mounting face. 13. The module of claim 12 further comprising: an air port through said module body. 14. The module of claim 13, wherein said recess is positioned between said air port and said liquid port. 15. The module of claim 14, wherein said recess includes opposed curvilinear surfaces. 16. The module of claim 14, wherein said recess is generally bow-tie shaped. 17. A module for a liquid dispensing system, the liquid dispensing system including a module mounting surface, a first air port, a first liquid port, and a first interactive surface comprising one of a projection extending from the module mounting surface or a recess extending into the module mounting surface, the module comprising: a module body including a module surface; a second air port through said module body; a second liquid port through said module body; and a second interactive surface disposed between said second air port and said second liquid port, said second interactive surface comprising the other of a projection or a recess and adapted to interfit with the first interactive surface when said module surface is coupled to the module mounting surface such that the module is vertically and laterally aligned at a predetermined position on the module mounting surface; wherein the second interactive surface is a one-piece unitary construction with the module body.
