A waterproof recreational audio device and method that transmits sound via transcutaneous bone conduction provides high fidelity musical signals to a user. The device can be worn on the head of a user and integrated into various types of headgear. The device is tunable for sound quality and comfort by adjusting and moving the sound transmitting transducers around the head of the user. The present invention uses commercially available transducers to produce sounds in the low, mid and high frequency ranges. A sound source for the musical signal can also be provided as part of the waterproof recreational audio device. Controls enable the user to select volume levels for the high, mid and low frequency ranges, while a volume limiter restricts the mid range to a preset maximum volume level to allow external ambient sounds to be heard via the ear canal and protects the hearing of the user.

An audio device for providing music to a user, comprising: a plurality of bone conduction transducers;a support for said plurality of bone conduction transducers which can be worn on or secured to a user's head,wherein said support secures said plurality of bone conduction transducers in contact with said user's head at locations other than ears of said user to provide audio signals to said user by bone conduction, andwherein at least one of said plurality of bone conduction transducers is moveable to different locations on said support. 2. The audio device of claim 1 wherein said support is a hat. 3. The audio device of claim 1 wherein said support is a helmet. 4. The audio device of claim 1 further comprising waterproofing material disposed over each of said plurality of bone conduction transducers. 5. The audio device of claim 1, further comprising: a source for providing said audio signals with multiple frequency channels;wherein said plurality of bone conduction transducers are configured to operate over the multiple frequency channels; andcontrol means for independently controlling audio signals at each of said multiple frequency channels. 6. The audio device of claim 5 further comprising waterproofing material disposed over each of said plurality of bone conduction transducers. 7. The audio device of claim 5 wherein each of the plurality of bone conduction transducers is configured to be removably secured to said support. 8. The audio device of claim 5 wherein said support is a hat. 9. The audio device of claim 5 wherein said support is a helmet. 10. The audio device of claim 5 wherein said support includes a strap on swimming goggles. 11. The audio device of claim 5 wherein said source is secured to said support. 12. The audio device of claim 1 wherein said support includes a strap on swimming goggles. 13. The audio device of claim 1 further comprising a source of music which is secured to said support.
