An ammunition feed assembly for a machine gun comprising: an ammunition canister including a first side wall, a second side wall extending parallel to and in spaced relation to the first side wall, a first end wall extending between the first side wall and the second side wall, and a second end wall extending between the first side wall and the second side wall in spaced relation to the first end wall, the first side wall configured to be positioned adjacent to and in substantially parallel disposition with a vertical mounting surface, wherein a storage compartment for storing an ammunition belt in a serpentine path is defined by the first side wall, the second side wall, the first end wall, and the second end wall;a first end bracket secured to the first end wall of the canister;a second end bracket secured to the second end wall of the canister;a first end receiver configured to be secured to the vertical mounting surface and to receive the first end bracket;a second end receiver configured to be secured to the vertical mounting surface and to receive the second end bracket;a first pin configured to be slidably received by the first end bracket and the first end receiver for releasably coupling the first end bracket to the first end receiver; anda second right pin configured to be slidably received by the second end bracket and the second end receiver for releasably coupling the second end bracket to the second end receiver;wherein the first end receiver includes a first C-shaped bracket having an upper arm and a lower arm spaced apart from the upper arm to define an end bracket receiving opening configured to receive the first end bracket, the upper arm including an upper aperture and the lower arm including a lower aperture aligned with the upper aperture, the first pin being configured to pass through the upper aperture and the lower aperture and through the first end bracket positioned within the end bracket receiving opening; andwherein the second end receiver includes a first C-shaped bracket having an upper arm and a lower arm spaced apart from the upper arm to define an end bracket receiving opening configured to receive the second end bracket, the upper arm including an upper aperture and the lower arm including a lower aperture aligned with the upper aperture, the second pin being configured to pass through the upper aperture and the lower aperture and through the second end bracket positioned within the end bracket receiving opening. 2. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 1, further comprising: an upper bushing received with the upper arm of the first end receiver;a lower bushing received within the lower arm of the first end receiver;an upper bushing received within the upper arm of the second end receiver;a lower bushing received within the lower arm of the second end receiver;wherein the first pin includes a spring biased ball configured to engage the upper bushing and lower bushing of the first end receiver as the first pin is axially moved through the upper aperture and lower aperture; andwherein the second pin includes a spring biased ball configured to engage the upper bushing and the lower bushing of the second end receiver as the second pin is axially moved through the upper aperture and lower aperture. 3. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 1, further comprising: a third pin, wherein the first end receiver includes a second C-shaped bracket positioned above the first C-shaped bracket, the second C-shaped bracket having an upper arm and a lower arm spaced apart from the upper arm to define an end bracket receiving opening, the upper arm including an upper aperture and the lower arm including a lower aperture aligned with the upper aperture, the third pin being configured to pass through the upper aperture and the lower aperture; anda fourth pin, wherein the second end receiver includes a second C-shaped bracket positioned above the first C-shaped bracket, the second C-shaped bracket having an upper arm and a lower arm spaced apart from the upper arm to define an end bracket receiving opening, the upper arm including an upper aperture and the lower arm including a lower aperture aligned with the upper aperture, the fourth pin being configured to pass through the upper aperture and the lower aperture. 4. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 1, further comprising: the first receiver further includes a base supporting the first C-shaped bracket, and a resilient pad supported by the base and configured to be positioned intermediate the first receiver and the canister; andthe second receiver further includes a base supporting the first C-shaped bracket, and a resilient pad supported by the base and configured to be positioned intermediate the second receiver and the canister. 5. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 1, wherein the canister further includes a lid to at least partially cover an open upper end defined by the first side wall, the second side wall, the first end wall, and the second end wall. 6. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 5, further comprising a hinge pivotally coupling the lid to one of the first side wall and the second side wall, and a latch releasably securing the lid to the other of the second side wall and the first side wall. 7. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 5, wherein a first opening is defined between the lid and the first end wall, and a second opening is defined between the lid and the second end wall. 8. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 7, further comprising a flexible ammunition feed chute operably coupled to canister, the feed chute extending above the first opening in a first orientation of the canister and extending above the second opening in a second orientation of the canister. 9. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 8, wherein a first set of rollers is positioned adjacent the first opening to guide an ammunition belt in the first orientation of the canister, and a second set of rollers is positioned adjacent the second opening to guide an ammunition belt in the second orientation of the canister. 10. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 8, further comprising a first pair of feed chute catches supported by the first side wall and the second side wall adjacent the first opening, and a second pair of feed chute catches supported by the first side wall and the second side wall adjacent the second opening, a pair of clips supported by the feed chute and configured to releasably engage the first pair of feed chute catches in the first orientation of the canister and configured to releasably engage the second pair of feed chute catches in the second orientation of the canister. 11. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 1, further comprising a sight formed within at least one of the first side wall, the second side wall, the first end wall, and the second end wall, the sight providing visual access to the storage compartment to provide an indication of the amount of ammunition belt remaining 12. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 11, wherein the sight comprises a vertical slot formed in at least one of the first end wall and the second end wall. 13. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 12, wherein the sight comprises an upper vertical slot formed in the first end wall above the first end bracket, a lower vertical slot formed in the first end wall below the first end bracket, an upper vertical slot formed in the second end wall above the second end bracket, and a lower vertical slot formed in the second end wall below the second end bracket. 14. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 1, wherein the second end receiver is a mirror image of the first end receiver, such that the canister may be supported with the first side wall facing the vertical mounting surface in a first orientation, and the second side wall facing the vertical mounting surface in a second orientation. 15. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 1, wherein the vertical mounting surface is the transmission wall of a helicopter. 16. An ammunition feed assembly for a machine gun comprising: an ammunition canister including a first side wall, a second side wall extending in spaced relation to the first side wall, a first end wall extending between the first side wall and the second side wall, and a second end wall extending between the first side wall and the second side wall in spaced relation to the first end wall, the first side wall configured to be positioned adjacent to and in parallel disposition with a vertical mounting surface, wherein a storage compartment for storing an ammunition belt in a serpentine path is defined by the first side wall, the second side wall, the first end wall, and the second end wall; anda sight formed within at least one of the first side wall, the second side wall, the first end wall, and the second end wall, the sight providing visual access to the storage compartment to provide an indication of the amount of ammunition belt remaining;a first end bracket secured to the first end wall of the canister;a second end bracket secured to the second end wall of the canister;wherein the sight comprises an upper vertical slot formed in the first end wall above the first end bracket, a lower vertical slot formed in the first end wall below the first end bracket, an upper vertical slot formed in the second end wall above the second end bracket, and a lower vertical slot formed in the second end wall below the second end bracket;wherein the sight comprises a vertical slot formed in at least one of the first end wall and the second end wall. 17. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 16, further comprising: a first end bracket secured to the first end wall of the canister;a second end bracket secured to the second end wall of the canister;a first end receiver configured to be secured to the vertical mounting surface and to receive the first end bracket;a second end receiver configured to be secured to the vertical mounting surface and to receive the second end bracket;a first pin releasably coupling the first end bracket to the first end receiver; anda second right pin releasably coupling the second end bracket to the second end receiver. 18. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 17, wherein: the first end receiver includes a first C-shaped bracket having an upper arm and a lower arm spaced apart from the upper arm to define an end bracket receiving opening configured to receive the first end bracket, the upper arm including an upper aperture and the lower arm including a lower aperture aligned with the upper aperture, the first pin being configured to pass through the upper aperture and the lower aperture and through the first end bracket positioned within the end bracket receiving opening; andthe second end receiver includes a first C-shaped bracket having an upper arm and a lower arm spaced apart from the upper arm to define an end bracket receiving opening configured to receive the second end bracket, the upper arm including an upper aperture and the lower arm including a lower aperture aligned with the upper aperture, the second pin being configured to pass through the upper aperture and the lower aperture and through the second end bracket positioned within the end bracket receiving opening. 19. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 18, further comprising: an upper bushing received with the upper arm of the first end receiver;a lower bushing received within the lower arm of the first end receiver;an upper bushing received within the upper arm of the second end receiver;a lower bushing received within the lower arm of the second end receiver;wherein the first pin includes a spring biased ball configured to engage the upper bushing and lower bushing of the first end receiver as the first pin is axially moved through the upper aperture and lower aperture; andwherein the second pin includes a spring biased ball configured to engage the upper bushing and the lower bushing of the second end receiver as the second pin is axially moved through the upper aperture and lower aperture. 20. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 17, wherein the second end receiver is a mirror image of the first end receiver, such that the canister may be supported with the first side wall facing the vertical mounting surface in a first orientation, and the second side wall facing the vertical mounting surface in a second orientation. 21. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 16, wherein the canister further includes a lid to at least partially cover an open upper end defined by the first side wall, the second side wall, the first end wall, and the second end wall. 22. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 21, further comprising a hinge pivotally coupling the lid to one of the first side wall and the second side wall, and a latch releasably securing the lid to the other of the second side wall and the first side wall. 23. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 21, wherein a first opening is defined between the lid and the first end wall, and a second opening is defined between the lid and the second end wall. 24. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 23, further comprising a flexible ammunition feed chute operably coupled to canister, the feed chute extending above the first opening in a first orientation of the canister and extending above the second opening in a second orientation of the canister. 25. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 24, wherein a first set of rollers is positioned adjacent the first opening to guide an ammunition belt in the first orientation of the canister, and a second set of rollers is positioned adjacent the second opening to guide an ammunition belt in the second orientation of the canister. 26. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 24, further comprising a first pair of feed chute catches supported by the first side wall and the second side wall adjacent the first opening, and a second pair of feed chute catches supported by the first side wall and the second side wall adjacent the second opening, a pair of clips supported by the feed chute and configured to releasably engage the first pair of feed chute catches in the first orientation of the canister and configured to releasably engage the second pair of feed chute catches in the second orientation of the canister. 27. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 16, wherein the vertical mounting surface is the transmission wall of a helicopter. 28. An ammunition feed assembly for a machine gun comprising: an ammunition canister including a first side wall, a second side wall extending parallel to and in spaced relation to the first side wall, a first end wall extending between the first side wall and the second side wall, and a second end wall extending between the first side wall and the second side wall parallel to and in spaced relation to the first end wall, the first side wall configured to be positioned adjacent to and in parallel disposition with a vertical mounting surface, wherein a storage compartment for storing an ammunition belt in a serpentine path is defined by the first side wall, the second side wall, the first end wall, and the second end wall;a sight formed within at least one of the first side wall, the second side wall, the first end wall, and the second end wall, the sight providing visual access to the storage compartment to provide an indication of the amount of ammunition belt remaining;a lid to at least partially cover an open upper end defined by the rear wall, the front wall, the left end wall, and the right end wall;a first end bracket secured to the first end wall of the canister;a second end bracket secured to the second end wall of the canister;a first end receiver configured to be secured to the vertical mounting surface and to alternately receive the first end bracket and the second end bracket;a second end receiver configured to be secured to the vertical mounting surface and to alternately receive the second end bracket and the first end bracket;a first pin releasably coupling one of the first end bracket and the second end bracket to the first end receiver; anda second pin releasably coupling one of the second end bracket and the first end bracket to the second end receiver;wherein the second end receiver is a mirror image of the first end receiver, such that the canister may be supported with the first side wall facing the vertical mounting surface in a first orientation and the second side wall facing the vertical mounting surface in a second orientation, the first end bracket coupled to the first receiver and the second end bracket coupled to the second receiver in the first orientation, and the second end bracket coupled to the first receiver and the first end bracket coupled to the second receiver in the second orientation. 29. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 28, wherein a first opening is defined between the lid and the first end wall, and a second opening is defined between the lid and the second end wall. 30. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 29, further comprising a flexible ammunition feed chute operably coupled to canister, the feed chute extending above the first opening in the first orientation of the canister and extending above the second opening in the second orientation of the canister. 31. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 30, wherein a first set of rollers is positioned adjacent the first opening to guide an ammunition belt in the first orientation of the canister, and a second set of rollers is positioned adjacent the second opening to guide an ammunition belt in the second orientation of the canister. 32. The ammunition feed assembly of claim 30, further comprising a first pair of feed chute catches supported by the first side wall and the second side wall adjacent the first opening, and a second pair of feed chute catches supported by the first side wall and the second side wall adjacent the second opening, a pair of clips supported by the feed chute and configured to releasably engage the first pair of feed chute catches in the first orientation of the canister and configured to releasably engage the second pair of feed chute catches in the second orientation of the canister.
