The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 1 wherein the longitudinal edge in said anterior region is contoured to correspond generally to the contour of the wearer's lower abdomen region. 3. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 1 wherein the longitudinal edge in said anterior region is generally arcuate. 4. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 1 wherein said distance is approximately 15 mm. 5. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 1 wherein the absorbent structure is adhered to the shell. 6. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 1 wherein the absorbent article is selected from a group consisting of a pantiliner, a sanitary napkin, and an incontinence article. 7. A feminine care absorbent article comprising: an absorbent structure configured for disposition adjacent a female wearer's vaginal region to absorb bodily fluids discharged by the wearer; anda shell for supporting the absorbent structure at said vaginal region, the shell having a body-facing surface and a garment-facing surface, the body-facing surface having an adhesive thereon for adhering the shell directly to the wearer, the shell having a longitudinal axis, a transverse axis, an anterior region, a posterior region, and a central region extending longitudinally between and interconnecting the anterior and posterior regions, the anterior region of the shell including a longitudinal edge having a longitudinal extent from the transverse axis, said longitudinal extent increasing as the longitudinal edge extends transversely outward from the longitudinal axis of the shell, wherein the longitudinal edge in said anterior region of the shell has a longitudinal extent at the longitudinal axis of the shell and a greatest longitudinal extent spaced transversely from the longitudinal axis of the shell, a longitudinal distance between said greatest longitudinal extent of the longitudinal edge and the longitudinal extent of the longitudinal edge at the longitudinal axis of the shell defining a recess of the anterior region of the shell, the posterior region of the shell having a longitudinal edge, the longitudinal edge at said posterior region having a greatest longitudinal extent, a distance between the greatest longitudinal extent of the longitudinal edge at said posterior region and the greatest longitudinal extent of the longitudinal edge at said anterior region defining a length of the shell, a ratio of the length of the recess at the anterior region of the shell to the length of the shell being in the range of about 0.03 to about 0.2. 8. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 7 wherein said ratio is in the range of about 0.06 to about 0.09. 9. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 7 wherein the shell further comprises transversely spaced side edges, each extending from the posterior region through the central region to the anterior region, the transverse spacing between the side edges defining a width of the shell, said width increasing as the transverse edges extend longitudinally from the central region toward at least one of the anterior region and the posterior region of the shell. 10. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 9 wherein the shell has a narrowest width, a ratio of the length of the shell to the narrowest width of the shell being in the range of about 3 to about 1. 11. A feminine care absorbent article comprising: an absorbent structure having a peripheral edge and being configured for disposition adjacent a female wearer's vaginal region to absorb bodily fluids discharged by the wearer; anda shell for supporting the absorbent structure at said vaginal region, the shell having a body-facing surface and a garment-facing surface, the body-facing surface having an adhesive thereon for adhering the shell directly to the wearer, the shell having a longitudinal axis, a transverse axis, an anterior region, a posterior region, and a central region extending longitudinally between and interconnecting the anterior and posterior regions, the absorbent structure being secured and overlying at least a portion of the shell, the shell being configured and sized relative to the absorbent structure such that at least a portion of the shell extends outward beyond the absorbent structure along at least a portion of the peripheral edge of the absorbent structure, said outward extension of the shell being in the range of about 3 mm to about 15 mm and having said adhesive thereon for adhering the shell directly to the wearer. 12. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 11 wherein the body-facing surface of the entire portion of the shell extending outward beyond the absorbent structure has adhesive applied thereto for adhering the shell to the wearer. 13. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 11 wherein the shell extends outward beyond the absorbent structure along the peripheral edge of the absorbent structure in at least the anterior region and the central region of the shell. 14. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 13 wherein the distance that the shell extends outward beyond the absorbent structure is non-uniform along the peripheral edge of the absorbent structure. 15. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 13 wherein the absorbent structure has a longitudinal edge disposed within the anterior region of the shell, and transversely spaced side edges, the shell extending transversely outward beyond each of the side edges of the absorbent structure a first distance within the central region of the shell and extending transversely outward beyond the longitudinal edge of the absorbent structure a second distance within the anterior region of the shell, said second distance being greater than said first distance. 16. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 13 wherein the shell has a narrowest width in the central region thereof, said narrowest width being in the range of about 45 mm to about 85 mm. 17. The feminine care absorbent article assembly set forth in claim 16 wherein the absorbent structure has a narrowest width in the central region of the shell, the narrowest width of the absorbent structure being in the range of about 60 mm to about 80 mm. 18. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 11 wherein the absorbent structure is adhered to the body-facing surface of the shell, the body-facing surface of the shell having a total surface area, the body-facing surface of the portion of the shell extending outward beyond the absorbent structure having an uncovered surface area, said uncovered surface area being in the range of about 10,000 mm2 to about 45,000 mm2. 19. The feminine care absorbent article assembly as set forth in claim 18 wherein the body-facing surface of the shell has an uncovered surface area in the range of about 18,000 mm2 to about 22,000 mm2. 20. The feminine care absorbent article assembly set forth in claim 18 wherein at least about 60 percent of the total surface area of the body-facing surface of the shell has adhesive thereon. 21. A feminine care absorbent article comprising: an absorbent structure having a peripheral edge and being configured for disposition adjacent a female wearer's vaginal region to absorb bodily fluids discharged by the wearer; anda shell for supporting the absorbent structure at said vaginal region, the shell having a body-facing surface and a garment-facing surface, the body-facing surface having an adhesive thereon for adhering the shell directly to the wearer, the shell having a longitudinal axis, a transverse axis, an anterior region, a posterior region, and a central region extending longitudinally between and interconnecting the anterior and posterior regions, the shell further comprising a pair of transversely spaced tabs in the anterior region of the shell, each tab having a central axis extending in part transversely outward of the shell and in part longitudinally outward of the shell, the tabs each having adhesive thereof for adhering the tabs directly to the wearer, the absorbent structure being adhered to the body-facing surface of the shell, each tab extending outward away from the peripheral edge of the absorbent structure along the central axis of the tab a distance in the range of about 20 mm to about 90 mm. 22. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 21 wherein the shell has a longitudinal edge at said anterior region and transversely spaced side edges extending from at least said central region to adjacent the longitudinal edge at said anterior region, said longitudinal edge and said side edges together forming the transversely spaced tabs at said anterior region. 23. A feminine care absorbent article comprising: an absorbent structure having a peripheral edge and being configured for disposition adjacent a female wearer's vaginal region to absorb bodily fluids discharged by the wearer; anda shell for supporting the absorbent structure at said vaginal region, the shell having a body-facing surface and a garment-facing surface, the body-facing surface having an adhesive thereon for adhering the shell directly to the wearer, the shell having a longitudinal axis, a transverse axis, an anterior region, a posterior region, and a central region extending longitudinally between and interconnecting the anterior and posterior regions, the shell further comprising a pair of transversely spaced tabs in the anterior region of the shell, each tab having a central axis extending in part transversely outward of the shell and in part longitudinally outward of the shell, the tabs each having adhesive thereof for adhering the tabs directly to the wearer, the absorbent structure having transversely spaced side edges and a narrowest width therebetween at the central region of the shell, each side edge at said narrowest width defining a first distance from the longitudinal axis of the shell to the respective side edge of the absorbent structure, each tab having a transversely outermost extent and defining a second distance from said longitudinal axis to said transversely outermost extent of the tab, a ratio of the second distance to the first distance being in the range of about 2 to about 5. 24. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 21 wherein each tab has a longitudinally outermost extent defining a length from the transverse axis of the shell to said longitudinally outermost extent of the tab, said length being in the range of about 50 mm to about 120 mm. 25. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 24 wherein the length from the transverse axis of the shell to the longitudinally outermost extent of the tab comprises a first length, the absorbent structure having a longitudinally outermost extent in the anterior region of the shell and defining a second length from the transverse axis of the shell to the longitudinally outermost extent of the absorbent structure, a ratio of said first length to said second length being in the range of about 3 to about 1. 26. A feminine care absorbent article comprising: an absorbent structure configured for disposition adjacent a female wearer's vaginal region to absorb bodily fluids discharged by the wearer; anda shell for supporting the absorbent structure at said vaginal region, the shell having a body-facing surface and a garment-facing surface, the body-facing surface having an adhesive thereon for adhering the shell directly to the wearer, the shell having a longitudinal axis, a transverse axis, an anterior region, a posterior region, a central region extending longitudinally between and interconnecting the anterior and posterior regions, and a pair of transversely spaced tabs at the posterior region of the shell, the body-facing surface of the shell at each of the tabs having adhesive thereon for securing the tabs to the wearer, the shell having a longitudinal edge at the posterior region of the shell, said longitudinal edge being configured to have an ingress extending longitudinally inward of the shell within said posterior region to thereby define the transversely spaced tabs. 27. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 26 wherein the absorbent structure overlays and is adhered to the shell, said absorbent structure covering at least a portion of said ingress. 28. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 26 wherein the longitudinal edge at said posterior region has a longitudinally outermost extent and a length extending from the transverse axis of the shell to said longitudinally outermost extent of said longitudinal edge, the ingress having a length in the range of about 5 percent to about 100 percent of the length of the shell from the transverse axis to said longitudinally outermost extent of said longitudinal edge. 29. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 26 wherein the shell has a length, the ingress having a length in the range of about 10 percent to about 50 percent of the length of the shell. 30. The feminine care absorbent article set forth in claim 26 wherein the shell has a greatest width, the ingress having a greatest width in the range of about 10 percent to about 50 percent of the greatest width of the shell.
