The storage system of claim 13, wherein the at least one modular storage component is connectable to a wall stud via installation of a fastener through at least one aperture in the body when a side of a wall stud is located between the spaced sidewalls and against the central portion of the body. 15. The storage system of claim 13, wherein the at least one modular storage component is connectable to a substantially planar wall surface via installation of a fastener through at least one aperture in the body when the foot portions are positioned against the substantially planar wall surface. 16. The storage system of claim 13, wherein the at least one modular storage component is connectable to a horizontal hang rail, the at least one modular storage component further comprising a latch member movable into engagement with the horizontal hang rail when the horizontal hang rail is engaged in the openings of the sidewalls. 17. The storage system of claim 13, wherein the at least one modular storage component further comprises a substantially rigid hanger element connected to the body. 18. The storage system of claim 17, wherein the substantially rigid hanger element is pivotally connected to the body. 19. The storage system of claim 13, wherein the at least one modular storage component further comprises a flange connected to the body, and a substantially rigid hanger element pivotally connected to the body by the flange. 20. The storage system of claim 13, wherein the at least one modular storage component further comprises a latch member, the latch member being movable from an unlatched position wherein the at least one modular storage component is removable from a horizontal hang rail to a latched position wherein the at least one modular storage component is prevented from being inadvertently removed from the respective horizontal hang rail. 21. A method of connecting a storage system to a wall structure comprising: connecting a first horizontal hang rail directly to a wall structure;connecting to the first horizontal hang rail at least two vertical standards;connecting to each of the at least two vertical standards an adapter having a front opening;connecting to each of the adapters a second horizontal hang rail including moving the second horizontal hang rail into a position within the front opening of the adapter; andremovably connecting at least one modular storage component to the first or second horizontal hang rail or to at least one of the at least two vertical standards. 22.
