The apparatuses, methods and systems of the present invention include liquid flow control and beverage preparation capsules, pods, cartridges, pouches, systems, and modules for controlling and directing flow streams of liquid through a beverage preparation process. The apparatuses, methods and systems of the present invention may be used in combination with or included as an integral assembly of any apparatus, method or system for liquid dispension.

A refrigerator having a flow control system for guiding liquid through an enhanced beverage preparation process, the refrigerator comprising: a. a liquid flow path having an inlet adapted for fluid communication with a source of liquid and an outlet adapted for fluid communication with a receiving point;b. the flow control system configured between the inlet and outlet of the liquid flow path at the refrigerator and configurable between: i. a flow-through mode adapted to produce the enhanced beverage by passing liquid through the liquid flow path; andii. a parallel flow mode adapted to produce the enhanced beverage by passing liquid through the liquid flow path and an enhancement flow path and combining at a mixing point:c. an enhancement cartridge removably insertable at the refrigerator, the enhancement cartridge comprises a flow-through configuration or a parallel flow configuration and an inlet and an outlet with a seal openable by passing liquid through the liquid flow path. 2. The refrigerator of claim 1 further comprising a liquid dispenser. 3. The refrigerator of claim 2 wherein the flow control system is at the liquid dispenser. 4. The refrigerator of claim 3 wherein the flow control system comprises a valve having a flow-through setting that when selected configures the flow control system to the flow-through mode and a parallel flow setting that when selected configures the flow control system to the parallel flow mode. 5. The refrigerator of claim 4 wherein the valve is manually operable. 6. The refrigerator of claim 4 wherein the valve is operated between the flow-through setting and parallel flow setting by an actuator by an instruction. 7. The refrigerator of claim 2 wherein the flow control system has a housing. 8. The refrigerator of claim 7 wherein the housing is removably connected to the liquid dispenser. 9. The refrigerator of claim 7 wherein the housing is retrofitable to the liquid dispenser of an existing refrigerator. 10. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the flow control system is configurable to the flow-through mode or the parallel flow mode. 11. The refrigerator of claim 1 further comprising an indoor dispenser with a liquid line. 12. The refrigerator of claim 11 wherein the inlet of the enhancement cartridge is retrofitable to the indoor dispenser. 13. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the flow-through configuration of the enhancement cartridge comprises a liquid flow path in communication with a chamber adapted for receipt of an enhancement component. 14. The refrigerator of claim 13 wherein the enhancement component is separated from the inlet and the outlet in the enhancement cartridge by a membrane, wherein a. the membrane is permeable, whereby liquid in the liquid flow path passes through the membrane to provide the enhanced beverage at the outlet;b. the membrane houses the liquid enhancement component and is removably insertable into the chamber;c. the membrane is activated by pressure of liquid in the liquid flow path; and/ord. the membrane is manually openable. 15. The refrigerator of claim 13 wherein the enhancement component is separated within the chamber by a housing, whereby the housing is brought into fluid communication with liquid in the liquid flow path by opening the outlet. 16. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the parallel flow configuration of the enhancement cartridge comprises: a. a chamber having one or both of a liquid flow path and an enhancement flow path joining at a mixing point; orb. a first chamber having a liquid flow path and a second chamber having an enhancement flow path joining at a mixing point. 17. The refrigerator of claim 16 wherein the parallel flow configuration is adapted to produce the beverage by passing liquid through the liquid flow path and the enhancement flow path, and combining liquid from both flow paths at the mixing point. 18. The refrigerator of claim 17 wherein the chamber further comprises a housing adapted for receipt of an enhancement component, wherein liquid is separated from the enhancement component in the housing by a membrane. 19. The refrigerator of claim 18 wherein liquid from the liquid outlet passing through the liquid flow path past the housing draws the enhancement component from the housing into the liquid flow path by Venturi effect. 20. The refrigerator of claim 1 wherein the flow control system comprises an enhancement module that is removably insertable at the refrigerator, the enhancement module comprising a flow-through configuration or a parallel flow configuration. 21. The refrigerator of claim 20 wherein the enhancement module is configurable to the flow-through configuration or the parallel flow configuration. 22. The refrigerator of claim 21 wherein the flow-through configuration of the enhancement module comprises a liquid flow path in communication with a chamber within the enhancement module, the chamber adapted for removable receipt of an enhancement cartridge. 23. The refrigerator of claim 21 wherein the parallel flow configuration of the enhancement module comprises a liquid flow path, an enhancement flow path and a chamber, wherein the enhancement flow path is in communication with the chamber adapted for receipt of an enhancement cartridge. 24. The refrigerator of claim 1 further comprising an indoor dispenser with a liquid line for liquid and/or ice dispension, the indoor dispenser houses the flow control system, and the flow control system comprises: a. a flow-through configuration having a liquid flow path in communication with a chamber adapted for receipt of the enhancement cartridge; andb. a parallel flow configuration having a enhancement flow path in communication with a container housing an enhancement component. 25. The refrigerator of claim 24 wherein the enhancement cartridge is: a. removably insertable through the indoor dispenser into the chamber; orb. removably insertable through the indoor dispenser into the flow control system. 26. The refrigerator of claim 24 wherein the flow-through configuration is adapted to: a. direct liquid from the liquid line through the chamber to dispense to a liquid receiving point; orb. direct liquid from the liquid line through the chamber having an enhancement cartridge to provide a beverage at a liquid receiving point. 27. The refrigerator of claim 24 wherein the parallel flow configuration is adapted to operate cooperatively with the flow-through configuration to: a. direct an enhancement component through the enhancement flow path in communication with liquid in the liquid flow path to combine the two for preparing a beverage; orb. direct an enhancement component through the enhancement flow path in communication with an enhanced liquid in the liquid flow path to combine the two for preparing a beverage. 28. A refrigerator having an enhanced beverage preparation process, the refrigerator comprising: a. a liquid flow path having an inlet adapted for fluid communication with a source of liquid and an outlet adapted for fluid communication with a receiving point;b. the liquid flow path configured between the inlet and outlet at the refrigerator and configurable between: i. a flow-through mode adapted to produce the enhanced beverage by passing liquid through the liquid flow path and enhancement components through an enhancement flow path; andii. a parallel flow mode, adapted to produce the enhanced beverage by passing liquid through the liquid flow path and the enhancement flow path. 29. The refrigerator of claim 28 further comprising an enhancement cartridge removably inserted into the liquid flow path, the enhancement cartridge comprising: a. an inlet placed in fluid communication with the inlet of the liquid flow path;b. an outlet placed in fluid communication with the outlet of the liquid flow path; andc. a flow-through configuration between its inlet and the outlet. 30. The refrigerator of claim 28 further comprising an enhancement cartridge removably inserted into the liquid flow path, the enhancement cartridge comprising: a. an inlet placed in fluid communication with the inlet of the liquid flow path;b. an outlet placed in fluid communication with the outlet of the liquid flow path; andc. a parallel flow configuration between its inlet and the outlet. 31. A refrigerator having an enhanced beverage preparation process, the refrigerator comprising: a. a liquid flow path having an inlet adapted for fluid communication with a source of liquid and an outlet adapted for fluid communication with a receiving point;b. the liquid flow path configured between the inlet and outlet at the refrigerator and configurable between: i. a flow-through mode adapted to produce the enhanced beverage by passing liquid through the liquid flow path; andii. a parallel flow mode adapted to produce the enhanced beverage by passing liquid through the liquid flow path and an enhancement flow path;c. an enhancement cartridge removably received in the liquid flow path, the cartridge having an inlet and an outlet and, a flow-through configuration or a parallel flow configuration between its inlet and the outlet:d. wherein liquid in the liquid flow path is separated from the enhancement flow path by a thermoweld opened by passing liquid through the liquid flow path. 32. A refrigerator having a flow control system for guiding liquid through an enhanced beverage preparation process, the refrigerator comprising: a. a liquid flow path having an inlet adapted for fluid communication with a source of liquid and an outlet adapted for fluid communication with a receiving point;b. the flow control system configured between the inlet and outlet of the liquid flow path at the refrigerator and configurable between: i. a flow-through mode adapted to produce the enhanced beverage by passing liquid through the liquid flow path; andii. a parallel flow mode adapted to produce the enhanced beverage by passing liquid through the liquid flow path and an enhancement flow path and combining at a mixing point;c. an enhancement cartridge removably insertable at the refrigerator, the enhancement cartridge comprises a flow-through configuration or a parallel flow configuration, wherein an enhancement component in the cartridge is separated from the inlet and the outlet by a membrane.
