A pump cassette is disclosed. The pump cassette includes a housing having at least, one fluid inlet line and at least one fluid outlet line. The cassette also includes at least one reciprocating pressure displacement membrane pump within the housing. The pressure pump pumps a fluid from the fluid inlet line to the fluid outlet line. A hollow spike is also included on the housing as well as at least one metering pump. The metering pump is fluidly connected to the hollow spike on the housing and to a metering pump fluid line. The metering pump fluid line is fluidly connected to the fluid outlet line.

A liquid handling pump cassette comprising: a housing having a first plate spaced apart from a second plate, the first plate forming a first face of the housing and the second plate forming an opposing second face of the housing, and each plate having a corresponding perimeter defining one or more ends of the housing, the housing comprising:a liquid inlet line positioned at an end of the housing and a liquid outlet line positioned at an end of the housing;a first reciprocating membrane pump within said housing, said first pump being arranged to pump a first liquid from said liquid inlet line to said liquid outlet line via a first flow path within said housing;a secondary fluid port on said housing, said secondary fluid port communicating through the first face of the housing with a second flow path in the housing; anda second pump, said second pump being arranged to pump fluid through said secondary fluid port via the second flow path within the housing, whereinsaid second flow path is in fluid communication with said liquid outlet line. 2. The cassette of claim 1, wherein said first reciprocating membrane pump comprises: a chamber having a curved rigid chamber wall; anda flexible membrane attached to an inner perimeter of said rigid chamber wall, wherein a first side of said flexible membrane and a first portion of said rigid chamber wall define a pumping chamber, and an opposing second side of said flexible membrane and a second portion of said rigid chamber wall define an actuation chamber. 3. The cassette of claim 2, wherein said second portion of the rigid chamber wall includes a control fluid port, said control fluid port being located on the second face of the housing. 4. The cassette of claim 2, wherein said actuation chamber includes a port for ingress or egress of control fluid. 5. The cassette of claim 4, wherein the second pump is a reciprocating membrane pump comprising a flexible membrane separating a liquid chamber from an actuation chamber, the liquid chamber being in fluid communication with the second flow path. 6. The cassette of claim 5, wherein the actuation chamber of the second pump includes a port for ingress or egress of control fluid. 7. The cassette of claim 6, wherein the ports of the actuation chambers of the first and second pumps are located on the second face of the housing. 8. The cassette of claim 1, further comprising an air vent in fluid communication with said second flow path. 9. The cassette of claim 8, further comprising an air filter connected to said air vent. 10. The cassette of claim 1, wherein said housing comprises a midplate positioned between the first and second plates. 11. The cassette of claim 1, further comprising: a container holder for receiving and supporting a container containing a second liquid; anda hollow spike within said container holder, said hollow spike being in fluid communication with the secondary fluid port of said housing. 12. The cassette of claim 1, further comprising at least one valve interposed between the first flow path and the liquid outlet of the housing. 13. The cassette of claim 12, wherein said at least one valve comprises a valve housing having a membrane, said membrane dividing said housing into an actuation chamber and a liquid chamber. 14. The cassette of claim 13, wherein said actuation chamber comprises at least one port and said liquid chamber comprises at least one port. 15. The cassette of claim 14, wherein said liquid chamber comprises two ports. 16. The cassette of claim 15, wherein an inner wall of said liquid chamber comprises a substantially smooth surface. 17. The cassette of claim 15, wherein a port in said liquid chamber is formed in a raised feature within the liquid chamber. 18. The cassette of claim 15, wherein said at least one valve is a volcano valve. 19. The cassette of claim 14, wherein said at least one port of said actuation chamber is located on the second face of the housing. 20. The cassette of claim 1, wherein the secondary fluid port is in fluid communication with the liquid outlet line via a first valve between the secondary fluid port and the second flow path, and via a second valve between the second flow path and the liquid outlet line. 21. The cassette of claim 20, further comprising an air vent located on the first face of the housing, wherein the air vent is in fluid communication with the second flow path via a third valve in the housing. 22. The cassette of claim 21, wherein the first, second and third valves each comprises a valve housing having a membrane, said membrane dividing said housing into an actuation chamber and a liquid chamber. 23. The cassette of claim 22, wherein each actuation chamber of the first, second and third valves includes a port for ingress or egress of control fluid, and wherein each port is located on the second face of the housing. 24. A liquid handling pump cassette comprising: a housing having a first plate spaced apart from a second plate, the first plate forming a first face of the housing and the second plate forming an opposing second face of the housing, and each plate having a corresponding perimeter defining one or more ends of the housing, the housing comprising:a first liquid inlet line positioned at an end of the housing and a liquid outlet line positioned at an end of the housing;a first reciprocating membrane pump within said housing, first pump being arranged to pump a first liquid from said first liquid inlet line to said liquid outlet line via a first flow path within said housing;a second flow path within said housing, said second flow path being in fluid communication with the first flow path and comprising: a metering membrane pump;a second liquid inlet line for pumping a volume of a second liquid into said liquid outlet line, said second liquid inlet line entering the housing through the first face of said housing;a hollow spike in fluid communication with said second liquid inlet line; andan air vent in fluid communication with said second liquid inlet line, whereinsaid metering membrane pump is configured to infuse a quantity of a second liquid via the hollow spike into the first flow path. 25. The cassette of claim 24, wherein said reciprocating membrane pump comprises: a chamber having a curved rigid chamber wall; anda flexible membrane attached to an inner perimeter of said rigid chamber wall, wherein a first side of said flexible membrane and a first portion of said rigid chamber wall define a pumping chamber, and an opposing second side of said flexible membrane and a second portion of said rigid chamber wall define an actuation chamber. 26. The cassette of claim 24, wherein said housing comprises a midplate positioned between the first and second plates. 27. The cassette of claim 1, wherein said first liquid inlet line is positioned at a first end of the housing and wherein said liquid outlet line is positioned at a second end of the housing. 28. The cassette of claim 24, wherein said first liquid inlet line is positioned at a first end of the housing and wherein said liquid outlet line is positioned at a second end of the housing. 29. A liquid handling pump cassette comprising: a housing having a first plate spaced apart from a second plate, the first plate forming a first face of the housing and the second plate forming an opposing second face of the housing, and each plate having a corresponding perimeter defining one or more ends of the housing, the housing comprising: a first liquid inlet line positioned at an end of the housing and a liquid outlet line positioned at an end of the housing;a first reciprocating membrane pump within said housing, said first pump being arranged to pump a first liquid from said first liquid inlet line to said liquid outlet line via a first flow path within said housing;a second flow path within said housing, said second flow path being in fluid communication via a first valve with the first flow path and comprising: a metering membrane pump;a second liquid inlet line for pumping a volume of a second liquid into the liquid outlet line, the second liquid inlet line entering the housing through the first face of the housing and in fluid communication with the second flow path via a second valve;a hollow spike in fluid communication with the second liquid inlet line; andan air vent in fluid communication with the second flow path via a third valve, whereinthe metering membrane pump is configured to infuse a quantity of a second liquid via the hollow spike into the first flow path. 30. The cassette of claim 29, wherein said first liquid inlet line is positioned at a first end of the housing and wherein said liquid outlet line is positioned at a second end of the housing. 31. The cassette of claim 29, wherein the metering membrane pump is configured to infuse a quantity of a second liquid from a closed container spiked onto the hollow spike. 32. The cassette of claim 29, wherein the first reciprocating membrane pump, the metering membrane pump, and the valves each comprises a flexible membrane separating a liquid handling chamber from an actuation chamber, each actuation chamber including a port for ingress or egress of control fluid, and each port being located on the second face of the housing.
