An analyte monitor includes a sensor, a sensor control unit, and a display unit. The sensor has, for example, a substrate, a recessed channel formed in the substrate, and conductive material disposed in the recessed channel to form a working electrode. The sensor control unit typically has a housing adapted for placement on skin and is adapted to receive a portion of an electrochemical sensor. The sensor control unit also includes two or more conductive contacts disposed on the housing and configured for coupling to two or more contact pads on the sensor. A transmitter is disposed in the housing and coupled to the plurality of conductive contacts for transmitting data obtained using the sensor. The display unit has a receiver for receiving data transmitted by the transmitter of the sensor control unit and a display coupled to the receiver for displaying an indication of a level of an analyte. The analyte monitor may also be part of a drug delivery system to alter the level of the analyte based on the data obtained using the sensor.

The system of claim 1 wherein the drug administration system includes one or more of an internal infusion pump, an external infusion pump, a syringe injector, a transdermal delivery system, a patch, or an inhalation system. 3. The system of claim 1 wherein the drug administration system is configured to modify a current drug administration protocol based at least in part on the one or more parameters related to the patient condition. 4. The system of claim 3 wherein the one or more parameters related to the patient condition includes one or more of an analyte level, a drug sensitivity feedback, or a rate of change of the analyte level. 5. The system of claim 1 wherein the processed information includes a treatment protocol. 6. The system of claim 5 wherein the treatment protocol includes insulin treatment. 7. The system of claim 5 wherein the treatment protocol includes a drug administration protocol. 8. The system of claim 1 wherein the received indication associated with the one or more parameters related to the patient condition includes data related to a treatment protocol. 9. The system of claim 8 wherein the data related to the treatment protocol includes one or more of drug sensitivity curve, a trend in the patient's response to the treatment protocol, or a characteristic time constant for response to the treatment protocol. 10. The system of claim 1 wherein the input unit includes an RF receiver operatively coupled to the processor to receive remotely generated signals associated with a monitored analyte level. 11. The system of claim 10 wherein the monitored analyte is glucose. 12. The system of claim 10 wherein the RF receiver is configured to wirelessly receive one or more signals related to the monitored analyte level of a patient detected by an analyte sensor. 13. The system of claim 1 wherein the drug administration system is configured to administer a medication dose based on the processed information. 14. The system of claim 1 wherein the processor is further configured to compare the determined acceleration of the monitored analyte level to one or more threshold levels. 15. The system of claim 14 wherein when the acceleration of the monitored analyte level exceeds one or more of the threshold levels, the processor is configured to output an alarm indication. 16. The system of claim 15 wherein the alarm indication includes one or more of a visual, auditory or tactile alarm. 17. The system of claim 15 wherein the alarm indication is associated with an impending hyperglycemic condition or an impending hypoglycemic condition. 18. The system of claim 17 wherein one or more characteristics of the alarm indication varies based on the condition. 19. The system of claim 18 wherein the characteristics of the alarm indication include a tone, a note, a volume level, a color, a brightness level, or a combination thereof. 20. The system of claim 1 wherein the predetermined period of time is adjustable.
