The thrust plate of claim 1, wherein the cylindrical plate has a width that is at least 5 mm. 6. The thrust plate of claim 5, wherein the width of the cylindrical plate is 11 mm. 7. The thrust plate of claim 1, wherein the extension is axially aligned and includes a bearing engaging outer cylindrical surface and an end surface having an extension radius. 8. The thrust plate of claim 7, wherein the end surface includes a circumferential tapered edge. 9. The thrust plate of claim 7, further including a bearing engaging transverse surface opposing the axle engaging surface, the extension connected to the bearing engaging transverse surface, an annular groove defined at the connection between the extension and the bearing engaging transverse surface. 10. The thrust plate of claim 9, wherein the extension has a width between the bearing engaging transverse surface and the end surface of 25 mm, and the extension radius is 30 mm. 11. The thrust plate of claim 1, wherein the thrust plate is bronze. 12. A thrust plate for a drive assembly between an end of an axle shaft and a bearing, the bearing retained within a housing of a rotatable final drive component, comprising: a first end including a cylindrical plate having an axle engaging surface, an outer circumferential surface, and an opposing bearing engaging surface, the axle engaging surface being substantially planar and abutting the outer circumferential surface, the thrust plate having a central axis, the plate disposed transverse to the axis; anda second end including an axially aligned cylindrical extension connected to the bearing engaging surface of the cylindrical plate, the extension having a cylindrical bearing engaging outer surface configured for press fit engagement with the bearing, and an extension radius originating at the central axis. 13. The thrust plate of claim 12, wherein the cylindrical plate has a plate radius of 67 mm and a width of 11 mm. 14. The thrust plate of claim 12, wherein the bearing engaging surface has a tapered circumferential edge, and the extension has an end surface with a tapered circumferential edge. 15. A thrust plate and bearing assembly for a final drive cover plate, comprising: a spherical thrust bearing including a cone, cup and a plurality of spherical tapered rollers, the cone having an axial bore defined by an inner surface, a transverse outer cone surface, and a cone raceway, the cup having a cup raceway, the spherical tapered rollers being disposed between the cup and cone raceways; anda thrust plate having a first end, a second end, and a central axis, the first end including a cylindrical plate, the cylindrical plate including a first end surface having an outer circumferential portion and an axle engaging portion disposed transverse to the central axis, the axle engaging portion being substantially planar and abutting the outer circumferential portion, the cylindrical plate having a transverse bearing engaging surface opposing the first end surface, the second end including an axially aligned extension connected to the transverse bearing engaging surface, the extension having a bearing engaging outer cylindrical surface;wherein, the thrust plate extension is disposed within the axial bore with the transverse bearing engaging surface disposed adjacent the transverse outer cone surface. 16. The thrust plate and bearing assembly of claim 15, wherein the thrust plate extension is press fit within the axial bore. 17. A rebuild kit for a final drive cover plate, comprising: a spherical thrust bearing including a central axis, a cone, cup and a plurality of spherical tapered rollers, the cone having an axial bore defined by an inner surface, a transverse outer cone surface, and a cone raceway, the cup having a cup raceway, the spherical tapered rollers being disposed between the cup and cone raceways; anda thrust plate having a first end and a second end, the first end including a cylindrical plate, the cylindrical plate including a first end surface having an outer circumferential portion and an axle engaging portion disposed transverse to the central axis, the axle engaging portion being substantially planar and abutting the outer circumferential portion, the cylindrical plate having a transverse bearing engaging surface opposing the first end surface, the second end including an axially aligned extension connected to the transverse bearing engaging surface, the extension having a bearing engaging outer cylindrical surface, wherein the bearing engaging outer cylindrical surface has a radial dimension for a press fit engagement with the inner surface of the axial bore. 18. The rebuild kit of claim 17, further comprising a plurality of compression springs. 19. The rebuild kit of claim 18, further comprising an o-ring having an outer diameter greater than that of the circlip retainer. 20. The rebuild kit of claim 17, further comprising a circlip retainer having an outer diameter greater than an outer diameter of the cylindrical plate.
