The navigation device of claim 1, wherein at least one of the stored POIs relates to a gas station. 3. The navigation device of claim 1, wherein at least one of the stored POIs relates to a store. 4. The navigation device of claim 1, wherein the connection device is configured to selectively retrieve at least one POI over the internet. 5. The navigation device of claim 1, wherein the connection device is configured selectively retrieve at least one POI over a wireless connection. 6. A method of operating a navigation device, comprising: selecting, by a user, at least a first point of interest (POI), including description information, an indication of type and point location information, for subsequent storage and display on the navigation device;retrieving, via a connection between the navigation device and a remote server or another navigation device, the description information, the indication of type and point location information of the one or more selected POIs;storing the retrieved description information, indication of type and point location information of the one or more selected POIs in a a storage device of the navigation device; andcreating, by the user, at least a second POI and storing the one or more created POIs in the storage device, wherein the plurality of POIs are stored in the storage device such that they can be used as a destination for a route calculation algorithm and can also be exchanged with other users. 7. The method of claim 6, further comprising: displaying, on a display of the navigation device, at least one of the stored POIs on a map, based upon the point location information for the POI. 8. The method of claim 6, wherein at least one of the stored POIs relates to a gas station. 9. The method of claim 6, wherein at least one of the stored POIs relates to a store. 10. The method of claim 6, wherein the description information, the indication of type and point location information of the one or more selected POIs is retrieved over the Internet. 11. The method of claim 6, wherein the description information, the indication of type and point location information of the one or more selected POIs is retrieved over a wireless connection.
