The drug delivery device of claim 1, further comprising a skin interfacing surface adapted to mate with the skin and align the first collimator with the skin such that the drug entrained within the first plurality of collimated gas streams will penetrate the skin in a direction substantially perpendicular to the skin. 3. The drug delivery device of claim 2, further comprising a rupturable membrane between the first drug source and the collimator. 4. The drug delivery device of claim 1, wherein the drug is in the form of a solid particle having a volume average diameter of about 0.1 micron to about 250 microns. 5. The drug delivery device of claim 1, wherein each of the plurality of conduits comprises an inlet and an outlet. 6. The drug delivery device of claim 5, further comprising a standoff between the first collimator and the skin interfacing surface such that a gap is provided between each of the outlets of the plurality of conduits and the skin when the skin interfacing surface is placed against the skin. 7. The drug delivery device of claim 6, wherein the gap is about 0.5 mm to about 10 mm. 8. The drug delivery device of claim 5, wherein each of the plurality of conduits comprises an expansion neck region downstream of the inlet. 9. The drug delivery device of claim 5, wherein each of the first plurality of collimated gas streams has a diameter of about 5 μm to about 500 μm at a distance of about 0.5 mm from the outlet. 10. The drug delivery device of claim 5, wherein each of the plurality of conduits comprises an opening between the inlet and the outlet of the conduit, the opening being in fluid communication with the first drug source. 11. The drug delivery device of claim 10, wherein each of the plurality of conduits comprises a venturi upstream of the opening. 12. The drug delivery device of claim 1, wherein each of the plurality of conduits comprises a venturi. 13. The drug delivery device of claim 1, wherein the gas source comprises an on-board gas generating source. 14. The drug delivery device of claim 1, wherein the drug delivery device is configured to produce the first plurality of collimated gas streams having a sufficient velocity for the drug entrained within the first plurality of collimated gas streams to penetrate human skin. 15. The drug delivery device of claim 1, wherein the drug delivery device is configured to produce the first plurality of collimated gas streams having a velocity of about 100 to about 1500 m/s. 16. The drug delivery device of claim 1, wherein the first collimator and the first drug source are provided in a removable cartridge. 17. The drug delivery device of claim 16, further comprising a second removable cartridge comprising a second collimator fluidly connected with the gas source and comprising a plurality of conduits adapted to form a second plurality of collimated gas streams comprising the gas, and a second drug source comprising the drug, wherein the second drug source is configured to release the second drug into the first plurality of collimated gas streams so that the drug will be transported into the skin in the direction substantially perpendicular to the skin. 18. The drug delivery device of claim 1, further comprising a second collimator fluidly connected with the gas source and comprising a plurality of conduits adapted to form a second plurality of collimated gas streams comprising the gas, and a second drug source comprising the drug, wherein the second drug source is configured to release the second drug into the first plurality of collimated gas streams so that the drug will be transported into the skin in the direction substantially perpendicular to the skin. 19. A method of delivering a drug into a human or animal tissue comprising: delivering a gas into a plurality of conduits of a collimator to produce a plurality of collimated streams of gas;entraining particles which comprise a drug in the collimated streams of gas, wherein the collimated streams of gas are established before the particles are entrained in the collimated streams of gas; andpenetrating the tissue with the particles by directing the collimated streams of gas containing the entrained particles toward the surface of the tissue. 20. The method of claim 19, wherein the collimated streams of gas are produced by expanding the gas through a venturi in each of the plurality of conduits. 21. The method of claim 19, further comprising rupturing a membrane to release the particles into each of the plurality of collimated streams of gas. 22. The method of claim 19, wherein each of the plurality of collimated gas streams has a diameter of about 5 μm to about 500 μm at a distance of about 0.5 mm from an outlet end of the collimator. 23. The method of claim 19, further comprising generating the pressurized gas onboard a drug delivery device, the drug delivery device comprising the collimator. 24. The method of claim 19, wherein the tissue is human skin. 25.
