Exemplary methods and systems are disclosed herein that may help to dynamically adjust page-transmission power based on the amount of concatenation being applied to a page. An exemplary method involves: (i) before transmission of a page to a mobile station by an access network, the access network identifying any concatenation that is being applied to the page; (ii) based at least in part on the concatenation that is being applied to the page, the access network selecting a page-transmission power for the page; and (iii) the access network transmitting the page to the mobile station at the selected page-transmission power. In an exemplary embodiment, a base station may increase the page-transmission power as the amount of concatenation increases, which may help to improve the paging success rate (PSR) for concatenated pages, among other benefits.

A method for paging a mobile station, the method comprising: before transmission of a page to a mobile station by an access network, the access network identifying concatenation that is being applied to the page, wherein the page comprises a page record that is transmitted in a general page messa
1. A method for paging a mobile station, the method comprising: before transmission of a page to a mobile station by an access network, the access network identifying concatenation that is being applied to the page, wherein the page comprises a page record that is transmitted in a general page message (GPM) by a base station in the radio access network, and wherein identifying the concatenation that is being applied to the page comprises determining how many page records can be included in the GPM;based at least in part on the concatenation that is being applied to the page, the access network selecting a page-transmission power for the page; andthe access network transmitting the page to the mobile station at the selected page-transmission power. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein selecting the page-transmission power for the page comprises: if no concatenation is being applied to the page, then selecting a first page-transmission power for the page; andif concatenation is being applied to the page, then selecting a second page-transmission power for the page. 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the second page-transmission power is greater than the first page-transmission power. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein identifying the concatenation that is being applied to the page further comprises determining the protocol being used to create the GPM. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein identifying the concatenation that is being applied to the page comprises determining how many page records can be concatenated in the GPM. 6. The method of claim 5, wherein selecting the page-transmission power for the page comprises: if no concatenation is being applied, then selecting a first page-transmission power for the page;if two page records can be concatenated in the GPM, then selecting a second page-transmission power for the page;if four page records can be concatenated in the GPM, then selecting a third page-transmission power for the page; andif eight page records can be concatenated in the GPM, then selecting a fourth page-transmission power for the page. 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the fourth page-transmission power is greater than the third page-transmission power, wherein the third page-transmission power is greater than the second page-transmission power, and wherein the second page-transmission power is greater than the first page-transmission power. 8. The method of claim 6, wherein the first page-transmission power is 1.2 watts, wherein the second page-transmission power is 1.35 watts, wherein the third page-transmission power is 1.5 watts, and wherein the fourth page-transmission power is 1.8 watts. 9. A system comprising: tangible data storage;at least one processor;program logic stored in the data storage that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes a radio access network to: (a) before transmission of a page to a mobile station, identify any concatenation that is being applied to the page, wherein the page comprises a page record that is transmitted in a general page message (GPM) by a base station in the radio access network, and wherein the identification of the concatenation that is being applied to the page comprises determining how many page records can be included in the GPM;(b) based at least in part on the concatenation that is being applied to the page, select a page-transmission power for the page; and(c) transmit the page to the mobile station at the selected page-transmission power. 10. The system of claim 9, wherein the program logic stored in the data storage that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the radio access network to select the page-transmission power for the page, comprises program logic stored in the data storage that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the radio access network to: if no concatenation is being applied to the page, then select a first page-transmission power for the page; andif concatenation is being applied to the page, then select a second page-transmission power for the page. 11. The system of claim 10, wherein the second page-transmission power is greater than the first page-transmission power. 12. The system of claim 9, wherein the page comprises a page record that is transmitted in a general page message (GPM) by a base station in the radio access network. 13. The system of claim 12, wherein the program logic stored in the data storage that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the radio access network to identify the concatenation that is being applied to the page comprises program logic stored in the data storage that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the radio access network to determine the protocol being used to create the GPM. 14. The system of claim 9, wherein the program logic stored in the data storage that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the radio access network to select the page-transmission power for the page comprises program logic stored in the data storage that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the radio access network to: if no concatenation is being applied, then select a first page-transmission power for the page;if two page records can be concatenated in the GPM, then select a second page-transmission power for the page;if four page records can be concatenated in the GPM, then select a third page-transmission power for the page; andif eight page records can be concatenated in the GPM, then select a fourth page-transmission power for the page. 15. The system of claim 14, wherein the first page-transmission power is 1.2 watts, wherein the second page-transmission power is 1.35 watts, wherein the third page-transmission power is 1.5 watts, and wherein the fourth page-transmission power is 1.8 watts. 16. A tangible computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon, the instructions comprising: instructions for, before transmission of a page to a mobile station by an access network, identifying any concatenation that is being applied to the page, wherein the page comprises a page record that is transmitted in a general page message (GPM) by a base station in the radio access network, and wherein identifying the concatenation that is being applied to the page comprises determining how many page records can be included in the GPM;instructions for, based at least in part on the concatenation that is being applied to the page, selecting a page-transmission power for the page; andinstructions for causing the access network to transmit the page to the mobile station at the selected page-transmission power. 17. The tangible computer-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the instructions for, based at least in part on the concatenation that is being applied to the page, selecting a page-transmission power for the page comprise: instructions for increasing the page-transmission power as the concatenation being applied increases.
