A ruggedized fiber optic connector assembly, comprising: a substantially hollow plug housing;a retention body disposed within the substantially hollow plug housing, the retention body having a cable receiving end located within the substantially hollow plug housing including one or more edge channels formed into the retention body and extending inwardly from the cable receiving end as holes with open ends that slidingly receive through the cable receiving end a reinforced plastic strength member of an optical fiber drop cable encased within a drop cable sheath, the retention body having a central channel that receives an optical fiber of the optical fiber drop cable; anda connector sub-assembly comprising at least one optical ferrule;wherein the retention body has a sub-assembly receiving end opposite the cable receiving end and located within the substantially hollow plug housing that engages and retains the connector sub-assembly; andwherein at least a portion of the optical fiber drop cable is retained within the retention body using an adhesive;wherein at least a portion of the retention body is optically transparent to cure the adhesive that retains the optical fiber drop cable within the retention body. 2. The ruggedized fiber optic connector assembly of claim 1, wherein the retention body defines a pair of edge channels for receiving a pair of reinforced plastic strength members of the optical fiber drop cable. 3. The ruggedized fiber optic connector assembly of claim 1, wherein an interior surface of the substantially hollow plug housing comprises one or more protrusions and an exterior surface of the retention body comprises one or more corresponding recesses, the one or more protrusions and the one or more corresponding recesses securing the retention body within the substantially hollow plug housing in a predetermined orientation. 4. The ruggedized fiber optic connector assembly of claim 1, wherein the reinforced plastic strength member is retained within the one or more edge channels of the retention body using the adhesive selected from the group consisting of an epoxy, a visible light curable epoxy, an ultraviolet light curable glue, and a heat curable glue epoxy. 5. The ruggedized fiber optic connector assembly of claim 4, wherein the adhesive is disposed within the one or more edge channels. 6. The ruggedized fiber optic connector assembly of claim 1, wherein the retention body has the sub-assembly receiving end that is configured to engage and retain the connector sub-assembly by snap-fitting thereto. 7. The ruggedized optic connector assembly of claim 1, wherein the optical fiber of the optical fiber drop cable is received within the central channel of the retention body without an optical ferrule between the retention body and the optical fiber drop cable. 8. The ruggedized optic connector assembly of claim 1 being a portion of a cable assembly. 9. The ruggedized fiber optic assembly of claim 1, wherein the retention body has the sub-assembly receiving end that engages and retains the connector sub-assembly through a pair of snap hooks located at an end surface of the retention body opposite the cable receiving end. 10. A ruggedized fiber optic connector assembly, comprising: a substantially hollow plug housing; anda glue body disposed within the substantially hollow plug housing;wherein the glue body comprises a unitary smaller dimension portion that defines one or more edge channels having open ends at a cable receiving end and extending into the glue body that are configured to receive one or more reinforced plastic strength members of an optical fiber drop cable therein;wherein the glue body has a sub-assembly receiving end that is configured to engage and retain a connector sub-assembly, the connector sub-assembly comprising at least one optical ferrule; andwherein at least a portion of an optical cable is retained within the glue body using an adhesive such that the glue body is located between the optical cable and the connector sub-assembly;wherein at least a portion of the glue body is optically transparent to cure the adhesive that retains the optical fiber drop cable within the glue body. 11. The ruggedized fiber optic connector assembly of claim 10, wherein the one or more strength members are retained within the one or more edge channels of the glue body using the adhesive selected from the group consisting of an epoxy, a visible light curable epoxy, an ultraviolet light curable glue, and a heat curable glue epoxy. 12. The ruggedized fiber optic connector assembly of claim 10, wherein the glue body has the sub-assembly receiving end that is configured to engage and retain the connector sub-assembly by snap-fitting thereto. 13. The ruggedized fiber optic connector assembly of claim 10, wherein the cable receiving end is at a first end of the glue body and the sub-assembly receiving end is at a second, opposite end of the glue body. 14. The ruggedized fiber optic connector assembly of claim 10 being a portion of a cable assembly. 15. The ruggedized fiber optic assembly of claim 10, wherein the glue body has the sub-assembly receiving end that is configured to engage and retain the connector sub-assembly through a pair of snap hooks located at an end surface of the glue body opposite the cable receiving end.
