A method comprising: administering medication according to a medication delivery profile during a predetermined time period, the predetermined time period including a plurality of time of day segments;monitoring, using a sensor, an analyte level for the predetermined time period;determining, using a processing unit, a frequency of the analyte level deviating from a predetermined level during one or more of the plurality of time of day segments; anddetermining, using the processing unit, a modification of the medication delivery profile for the one or more of the plurality of time of day segments in which the frequency of the analyte level deviating from the predetermined level exceeds a predetermined threshold. 2. The method of claim 1 further comprising outputting a recommendation for the modification of the medication delivery profile. 3. The method of claim 2 wherein the recommendation is provided visually and/or audibly. 4. The method of claim 1 further comprising executing the determined modification of the medication delivery profile. 5. The method of claim 4 wherein the medication is insulin, the analyte monitored is glucose, and the executing the determined modification of the medication delivery profile includes one or more of eliminating extreme glucose excursions, automating or semi-automating a routine or a regular bolus dosing, and adjusting a mean glucose value. 6. The method of claim 4 wherein the executing the determined modification of the medication delivery profile includes modifying a currently running medication delivery profile prior to its completion. 7. The method of claim 1 further comprising storing the determined modification to the mediation delivery profile. 8. The method of claim 1 wherein the medication delivery profile is based at least in part on the plurality of time of day segments and patient specific parameters. 9. The method of claim 8 wherein the administered medication is insulin, the monitored analyte is glucose, and the patient specific parameters include one or more of an insulin sensitivity, a type of insulin being administered, activities during the predetermined time period and carbohydrate intake during the predetermined time period. 10. The method of claim 1 wherein the medication delivery profile is based at least in part on a frequency of bolus dosing of the medication during the predetermined time period and a level of medication on board. 11. An apparatus comprising: a medication administration device for administering medication according to a medication delivery profile during a predetermined time period, the predetermined time period including a plurality of time of day segments;a sensor configured to monitor an analyte level for the predetermined time period; anda processing unit configured to determine a frequency of the analyte level deviating from a predetermined level during one or more of the plurality of time of day segments and configured to determine a modification of the medication delivery profile for the one or more of the plurality of time of day segments in which the frequency of the analyte level deviating from the predetermined level exceeds a predetermined threshold. 12. The apparatus of claim 11 wherein the processing unit is further configured to output a visual and/or audible recommendation for the modification of the medication delivery profile. 13. The apparatus of claim 11 wherein the medication administration device is configured to execute the determined modification of the medication delivery profile. 14. The apparatus of claim 13 further comprising a data storage unit operatively coupled to the processing unit, the processing unit further configured to store data and retrieve stored data from the data storage unit, wherein the data is associated with the monitored analyte level. 15. The apparatus of claim 11 wherein the medication delivery profile is based at least in part on the time of day segments and patient specific parameters. 16. The apparatus of claim 15 wherein the medication administration device is an insulin pump, the sensor is a glucose sensor, and the patient specific parameters include one or more of an insulin sensitivity, the type of insulin being administered, patient activities during the predetermined time period and patient carbohydrate intake during the predetermined time period. 17. The apparatus of claim 11 wherein the medication delivery profile is based at least in part on a frequency of bolus dosing of the medication during the predetermined time period and a level of medication on board. 18. The apparatus of claim 11 wherein the medication administration device is an insulin pump and the sensor is glucose sensor.
