The present invention relates to a method for producing fatty acid alkyl esters as well as cellulosic simplified sugars, shortened protein polymers, amino acids, or combination thereof resulting from the simultaneous esterification and hydrolysis, alcoholysis, or both of algae and other oil containing materials containing phospholipids, free fatty acids (FFA), glycerides, or combination thereof as well as polysaccharides, cellulose, hemicellulose, lignocellulose, protein polymers, or combination thereof in the presence of an alcohol and an optional acid catalyst.

1. A method for making a fatty acid alkyl ester, the method comprising: (a) providing a feedstock comprising oils, and an alcohol, wherein the feedstock comprises: (i) free fatty acids (FFAs), glycerides, or both;(ii) cellulosic material, proteins, or both; and(iii) a phorbol ester;(b) combining the
1. A method for making a fatty acid alkyl ester, the method comprising: (a) providing a feedstock comprising oils, and an alcohol, wherein the feedstock comprises: (i) free fatty acids (FFAs), glycerides, or both;(ii) cellulosic material, proteins, or both; and(iii) a phorbol ester;(b) combining the feedstock with the alcohol in the absence of a base or an acid catalyst, at an initial pH of between about pH 5 to pH 7; and (c) reacting the feedstock and the alcohol, at a temperature in the range of about 240 degrees C. to about 300 degree C., and at a pressure at between about 500 to 2800 psig, which is sufficient to prevent boiling of the alcohol during the reaction to (i) generate fatty acid alkyl esters,(ii) cleave the cellulosic material, if present, and(iii) shorten the proteins, if proteins are present, wherein the phorbol ester is converted into a non-toxic material after reacting the feedstock and the alcohol. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the feedstock comprises at least about 10 wt % cellulosic material based on the dry weight of the feedstock. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the feedstock comprises at least about 10 wt % proteins based on the dry weight of the feedstock. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the water content of the combination of the feedstock and the alcohol in step (a) before reaction is at least about 3 wt % of the dry weight of the feedstock. 5. The method of claim 1, further comprising adding a fatty acid alkyl ester to the combination of the feedstock and the alcohol in step (a) before the reacting of step (b). 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising drying the feedstock prior to combining the feedstock with the alcohol in step (a). 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the water content of the feedstock after drying is in the range of about 3 wt % to about 5 wt % of the dry weight of the feedstock. 8. The method of claim 1, wherein said feedstock is an algae, a dried distillers grain (DDG), or a mixture thereof. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein the alcohol is a methanol or an ethanol. 10. The method of claim 1, wherein the alcohol is in an amount from about 50% to about 320% molar excess of the oil contained in the feedstock. 11. The method of claim 1, wherein the temperature is in the range of about 240 degrees C. to about 270 degrees C. 12. The method of claim 1, wherein the pressure is between about 1000 psig to about 2000 psig. 13. A method for making a fatty acid alkyl ester, the method comprising: (a) combining a feedstock with an alcohol and without a base or an acid catalyst, wherein the feedstock comprises free fatty acids, glycerides, at least about 10 wt % cellulosic material based on the dry weight of the feedstock, and at least about 10 wt % proteins based on the dry weight of the feedstock; and(b) reacting the feedstock and the alcohol at a temperature in the range of between about 240 degrees C. to about 300 degrees C., and at a pressure at between about 500 to 2800 psig, which is sufficient to prevent boiling of the alcohol during the reaction, thereby: cleaving cellulosic material and generating fatty acid alkyl esters, cleaving the cellulosic material, and shortening the proteins. 14. The method of claim 13, wherein the water content of the combination of the feedstock and the alcohol in step (a) before reaction is at least about 3 wt % of the dry weight of the feedstock. 15. The method of claim 13, further comprising adding a fatty acid alkyl ester to the combination of the feedstock and the alcohol in step (a) before reacting. 16. The method of claim 13, further comprising separating or isolating the resulting fatty acid alkyl esters from the cleaved cellulosic material. 17. The method of claim 16, further comprising fermenting the cleaved cellulosic material to produce an ethanol. 18. The method of claim 1, wherein the pressure is between about 1500 psig to about 2000 psig. 19. The method of claim 1, wherein the temperature is in a range of about between about 250 degrees C. to about 280 degree C. 20. The method of claim 16, wherein the pressure is between about 1000 psig to about 2000 psig.
