The present inventions provide respiratory therapy apparatus that introduce water into the pressurized air delivered to a user during various positive airway pressure therapies and corresponding methods. The respiratory therapy apparatus may be configured to administer one or more positive airway pressure therapies, including: continuous positive airway pressure therapy (CPAP), bi-level positive airway pressure therapy (BPAP), auto positive airway pressure therapy (autoPAP), proportional positive airway pressure therapy (PPAP), and/or other positive airway pressure therapies. The respiratory therapy apparatus may include a user interface that defines an interface passage to communicate pressurized air to the user for inhalation and a humidifier that introduces water into the pressurized air generally at the interface passage. Methods according to the present inventions may include introducing water into the interface passage at one or more humidifier ports disposed about the interface passage.

1. An apparatus for providing positive pressure respiratory therapy to a user, the apparatus comprising: a flow generator configured to deliver pressurized air at an outlet;a user interface defining an interface passage in fluid communication with the outlet of the flow generator, the interface passage defining at least one vent, wherein the user interface also comprises a mask defining a chamber of the interface passage, the mask configured to attach to the user such that the chamber is in fluid communication with an airway of the user, wherein the pressurized air provided by the flow generator is delivered through the interface passage into the chamber of the mask for inhalation by the user; anda humidifier configured to introduce water into the interface passage at a location distal of both the flow generator and the at least one vent. 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the humidifier is configured to introduce the water into the pressurized air passing through the interface passage. 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the water comprises one or more of water vapor, liquid water droplets, mist, microdroplets, fog, and combinations of liquid water and water vapor. 4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the chamber defines a distal portion of the interface passage, and wherein the humidifier is configured to introduce the water into the chamber. 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the humidifier is configured to introduce the water into the interface passage via a plurality of humidifier ports. 6. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising an interface conduit positioned between the outlet of the flow generator and a mask inlet, the interface conduit forming a portion of the interface passage, wherein the at least one vent is formed in the interface conduit near the mask inlet. 7. An apparatus for providing positive pressure respiratory therapy to a user, the apparatus comprising: a flow generator configured to deliver pressurized air at an outlet;a user interface defining an interface passage in fluid communication with the outlet of the flow generator, the interface passage defining a vent, wherein the user interface also comprises a mask defining a chamber of the interface passage, the mask configured to attach to the user such that one or more seals of the mask provides a sealed connection to an airway of the user, wherein the pressurized air provided by the flow generator is delivered through the interface passage into the chamber of the mask; anda humidifier configured to introduce water into the interface passage at a humidifier port that is located between the vent and the one or more seals. 8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the humidifier comprises a water source connected to the humidifier port by a water tube. 9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the interface passage is connected to a delivery tube, the water tube positioned within a lumen formed by the delivery tube. 10. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the interface passage is connected to a delivery tube, the water tube positioned external to the delivery tube. 11. The apparatus of claim 8, further comprising one or more pumps connected to the water tube to convey the water through the water tube. 12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the one or more pumps is a capillary pump configured to use heat to convert at least some of the water from a liquid phase to a vapor phase. 13. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the apparatus further comprises an exchange material positioned within the interface passage at or near the humidifier port, the exchange material configured to collect some or all of the water introduced by the humidifier. 14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein at least a portion of the water is introduced into the pressurized air by evaporation as the pressurized air passes through or over the exchange material. 15. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the vent includes a vent valve configurable in: a first valve position wherein the vent valve is substantially closed so that air flow through the vent is at a minimum; anda second valve position wherein the vent valve is substantially open so that the air flow through the vent is at a maximum. 16. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the humidifier is configured such that the introduction of the water into the interface passage is periodic. 17. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the humidifier is configured to suspend a flow of the water into the interface passage during at least a portion of an exhalation phase of a breathing cycle. 18. An apparatus for providing positive pressure respiratory therapy to a user, the apparatus comprising: a flow generator configured to provide pressurized air at an outlet;a user interface defining an interface passage in fluid communication with the outlet of the flow generator, the interface passage defining a vent, wherein the user interface comprises a mask defining a chamber of the interface passage, the mask configured to attach to the user such that one or more seals of the mask provides a fluid connection with an airway of the user, wherein the pressurized air provided by the flow generator is delivered through the interface passage into the chamber of the mask and through the one or more seals;a humidifier configured to introduce water into the interface passage at a location between the vent and the one or more seals; anda vent valve associated with the vent, the vent valve configured to be in at least: a closed position during user inhalation; and an open position during user exhalation. 19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the one or more seals are configured to seal about nares of the user, each of the one or more seals defining an aperture configured to convey the pressurized air to the user's airway.
