Catheters for uniform delivery of medication within an anatomical region. A catheter includes an elongated tube with a plurality of exit holes along an infusion section of the catheter, and an elongated flexible porous member residing within the tube and forming an annular space between the tube and the member. A catheter includes a tube having a plurality of exit holes in a side wall of the tube. The exit holes may combine to form a flow-restricting orifice of the catheter. A catheter includes an elongated tubular member made of a porous membrane. The porous membrane is configured so that a fluid introduced into an open end of the tubular member will flow through side walls of the tubular member at a substantially uniform rate along a length of the tubular member. A catheter includes an elongated “weeping” tubular coil spring attached to an end of, or enclosed within, a tube. Fluid within the spring and greater than or equal to a threshold pressure advantageously flows radially outward between the spring coils.

1. A method of manufacturing a catheter for the uniform delivery of fluid throughout an anatomical region, comprising the steps of: forming an elongated support comprising interruptions on a surface of said support which terminate in outer edges;configuring said support and interruptions so that when a porous membrane is wrapped around said support one or more lumens are formed between said support and said porous membrane;wrapping said porous membrane around said support to form said catheter such that a plurality of lumens are formed between said support and said membrane; andaffixing porous membrane to the outer edges of the interruptions with an adhesive,wherein the porous membrane comprises a radially homogenous sponge-like, foam-like or hollow fiber material that becomes saturated with a fluid introduced within the plurality of lumens and has substantially uniform dispensation of fluid along the porous membrane;wherein the plurality of lumens are fluidly independent from one another such that the plurality of lumens communicate with one another; andwherein said membrane forms a portion of a wall of each of said plurality of lumens when wrapped around the outer edges of the interruptions. 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of configuring said porous membrane so that a fluid flowing within any of said lumens will pass through a portion of said membrane at a substantially uniform rate throughout the surface area of said portion of said membrane. 3. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of configuring said interruptions to comprise a plurality of ribs extending radially from an axial center portion of said support, said ribs also extending longitudinally along a length of said support, said porous membrane being wrapped around the outer edges of said ribs. 4. The method of claim 3, further comprising the step of forming an axial guide wire lumen within said axial center portion, said axial guide wire lumen adapted to slidably receive a guide wire. 5. The method of claim 3, further comprising the step of securing said porous membrane to said outer edges of said ribs. 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of wrapping a non-porous membrane around a portion of said support proximal to the portion of said support around which said porous membrane is wrapped, said non-porous membrane forming a portion of the walls of said lumens. 7. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of configuring said support and porous membrane to be substantially flexible. 8. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of configuring said lumens to be fluidly separated from one another. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein the average pore size of the porous membrane is from about 0.1 to 1.2 microns. 10. The method of claim 1, wherein the average pore size of the porous membrane is from about 0.3 to 1.0 microns. 11. The method of claim 1, wherein the average pore size of the porous membrane is less than 0.23 microns. 12. A method of manufacturing a catheter for the uniform delivery of fluid throughout an anatomical region, comprising the steps of: forming an elongated support comprising interruptions on a surface of said support which terminate in outer edges;wrapping a porous membrane around said support to form said catheter such so that a plurality of lumens are formed between said support and said membrane; andaffixing said porous membrane to the outer edges of the interruptions with an adhesive,wherein the porous membrane comprises a radially homogenous sponge-like, foam-like or hollow fiber material that becomes at least longitudinally saturated with a fluid introduced within the plurality of lumens and has substantially uniform dispensation of fluid along the porous membrane;wherein the support and porous membrane are substantially flexible; andwherein said membrane forms a portion of a wall of each of said plurality of lumens when wrapped around the outer edges of the interruptions. 13. The method of claim 12, wherein the one or more plurality of lumens are fluidly independent from one another such that the plurality of lumens do not fluidly communicate with one another.
