A deployment method and system for ocean bottom seismometers (OBS) includes providing a plurality of circular shaped, wireless, self-contained OBS units. The circular shaped OBS units are loaded into a carrier and transported from a surface vessel to the ocean floor where a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) is utilized to individually place the plurality of circular OBS units on the ocean floor. 1. A method for deployment of ocean bottom seismometers (OBS) units on the ocean floor, said method comprising: a. providing a plurality of wireless, self-contained OBS units, each OBS unit defined about an axis and configured to be individually placed and positioned on the ocean floor,b. transporting said OBS units from a surface vessel to the ocean floor; andc. utilizing a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to individually place at least one of the plurality of OBS units on the ocean floor,d. wherein said placement is accomplished by utilizing a suction mechanism defined about an axis and having a suction cup to individually engage each OBS unit so that the suction cup mechanism is coaxially aligned with the OBS unit, and moving the OBS unit from a first location to the ocean floor, ande. wherein the OBS units are transported from the surface vessel separately from the ROV or the ROV wirelessly activates at least one functionality of the OBS units. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein transporting comprises loading a carrier with the at least one of the plurality of OBS units. 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the ROV transports the carrier to the ocean floor. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the suction cup is coaxially positioned utilizing a robotic arm secured to the ROV. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the suction cup engages a flat surface of the OBS units. 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of f. indicating, via at least one of a visual indicator, acoustic indicator and electromagnetic indicator on the OBS, an operational status of the OBS; andg. ascertaining, via at least one of a visual sensor, acoustic sensor and electromagnetic sensor, the operational status of the OBS. 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the operational status is a malfunction. 8. The method of claim 1, further comprising loading the OBS units onto a carrier having a first end and a second end opposite the first end, wherein step (d) further comprises: moving the OBS units from the first end to the second end; andremoving the OBS units at the second end utilizing the suction mechanism. 9. A system for deployment of ocean bottom seismometers (OBS), said system comprising: a. a plurality of wireless, self-contained OBS units, each having an upper surface and each OBS unit defined about an axis and individually positionable;b. a carrier loaded with said OBS units;c. a remotely operated vehicle (ROV);d. a robotic arm having a distal end and a proximal end, said proximal end attached to the ROV;e. a suction mechanism attached to the distal end of the robotic arm, said suction mechanism defined about an axis and comprised of a suction cup disposed to engage the upper surface of an OBS unit so that the axis of the suction mechanism and the axis of the OBS unit are coaxial aligned,wherein the carrier comprises a mechanism to allow movement of the OBS units from a first end of the carrier to a second end of the carrier opposite the first end, the OBS units being removed from the second end utilizing the suction mechanism. 10. The system of claim 9, wherein said carrier is attached to said ROV. 11. The system of claim 9, wherein said OBS unit comprises an external visual beacon and said ROV comprises a camera. 12. The system of claim 9, wherein the carrier and ROV are separate units. 13. The system of claim 9, wherein the ROV is adapted to wirelessly activate at least one functionality of the OBS units. 14. A system for deployment of ocean bottom seismometers (OBS), said system comprising: a. a plurality of wireless, self-contained OBS units, each having an upper surface and each OBS unit defined about an axis and individually positionable;b. a carrier loaded with said OBS units;c. a remotely operated vehicle (ROV);d. a robotic arm having a distal end and a proximal end, said proximal end attached to the ROV;e. a suction mechanism attached to the distal end of the robotic arm, said suction mechanism defined about an axis and comprised of a suction cup disposed to engage the upper surface of an OBS unit so that the axis of the suction mechanism and the axis of the OBS unit are coaxial aligned, wherein the carrier comprises:a barrel into which OBS units are loaded, the barrel defined along a central axis; andindividual seats in which the OBS units can be seated, the OBS units axially stacked along the central axis. 15. A system for deployment of ocean bottom seismometers (OBS), said system comprising: a. a plurality of wireless, self-contained OBS units, each having an upper surface and each OBS unit defined about an axis and individually positionable;b. a carrier loaded with said OBS units;c. a remotely operated vehicle (ROV);d. a robotic arm having a distal end and a proximal end, said proximal end attached to the ROV;e. a suction mechanism attached to the distal end of the robotic arm, said suction mechanism defined about an axis and comprised of a suction cup disposed to engage the upper surface of an OBS unit so that the axis of the suction mechanism and the axis of the OBS unit are coaxial aligned, wherein the carrier comprises individual seats in which the OBS units can be seated. 16. The system of claim 15, wherein the OBS units include at least one of a visual indicator, acoustic indicator and electromagnetic indicator. 17. The system of claim 16, wherein at least one of the visual indicator, the acoustic indicator and the electromagnetic indicator is configured to indicate an operational status of the OBS. 18. The system of claim 17, wherein the operational status is a malfunction. 19. The system of claim 17, wherein the ROV is adapted to obtain the operational status of the OBS via at least one of the visual indicator, the acoustic indicator and the electromagnetic indicator. 20. The system of claim 15, wherein the OBS unit includes a contacting plate configured to be in coupling contact with a seabed.
