The device of claim 6, wherein the plurality of series-connected charge-accumulating devices comprises a plurality of series-connected supercapacitors. 8. The device of claim 7, wherein the power pack comprises a charge management circuit connected to the charge-accumulating devices for determining a charge level of the charge-accumulating devices. 9. The device of claim 5, wherein the at least one charge-accumulating device comprises at least one supercapacitor. 10. The device of claim 1, wherein the power pack comprises a processor connected to the power pack memory. 11. The device of claim 10, wherein the removable power pack further comprises a RFID transponder for reading a RFID value of at least one replaceable component of the instrument, and wherein the power pack memory is in communication with the RFID transponder for storing the RFID value of the at least one replaceable component of the instrument read by the RFID transponder. 12. The device of claim 11, wherein the processor is programmed to determine whether at least one replaceable component is proper for use in the instrument based on the RFID value of the at least one replaceable component of the instrument read by the RFID transponder. 13. The device of claim 12, wherein the processor is further programmed to prevent the power pack from powering the instrument upon a determination that the at least one replacement component is not proper for use in the instrument.
