The housing has at least one energy storage cell operable to power a signal generation assembly of the surgical instruments and a battery/handle interface having a plurality of connectors shaped to mate with a plurality of corresponding connectors within the battery chamber of the handles. The battery assembly according to claim 1, wherein: the battery-powered surgical instrument is an ultrasonic cautery cutting device. 3. The battery assembly according to claim 1, wherein: the first output is an ultrasonic-signal-generation assembly output signal for a first type of ultrasonic waveguide; andthe second output is an ultrasonic-signal-generation assembly output signal for a second type of ultrasonic waveguide different from the first type of ultrasonic waveguide. 4. The battery assembly according to claim 1, wherein the voltage-control circuit comprises a memory operable to receive and store at least one piece of information pertaining to the handle, the at least one piece of information being at least one of: a battery-assembly-use history;a battery assembly identifier;a list of surgical instruments previously powered by the battery assembly; anda software version identifier. 5. The battery assembly according to claim 4, wherein the voltage-control circuit comprises: a processor communicatively coupled to the memory and operable to:interrogate the handle for at least one piece of information pertaining to the handle;receive an instruction from the memory corresponding to the at least one piece of information pertaining to the handle; anddrive the voltage-control circuit according to the instruction. 6. The battery assembly according to claim 1, wherein the battery assembly is at least one of watertightly sealed and autoclavably sealed. 7. A cordless, hand-held, ultrasonic cautery cutting device, comprising: an ultrasonic-signal-generation assembly operable to dynamically produce a resonant wave along an ultrasonic waveguide;at least one handle selected from a set of different handle types each having a battery chamber and each being operable to be coupled to different ultrasonic waveguide types, the battery chamber having connectors therewithin and electrically connected to the ultrasonic-signal-generation assembly; anda removable battery assembly having: a housing with an exterior shape formed to removably connect with the battery chamber of each of the handles, the housing having: at least one energy storage cell operable to power the ultrasonic-signal-generation assembly; anda battery/handle interface having a plurality of connectors shaped to mate with the connectors within the battery chamber; anda voltage-control circuit operable to: communicatively couple with and provide power to the ultrasonic-signal-generation assembly;detect which one of the ultrasonic waveguide types is coupled to the handle connected to the housing;provide a first output in response to a detection of a first ultrasonic waveguide type; andprovide at least a second output in response to a detection of at least a second ultrasonic waveguide type. 8. The cordless, hand-held, ultrasonic cautery cutting device according to claim 7, wherein the voltage-control circuit comprises a memory operable to receive and store at least one piece of information pertaining to the surgical instrument handle, the at least one piece of information being at least one of: a battery-assembly-use history;a battery assembly identifier;a list of surgical instruments previously powered by the battery assembly; anda software version identifier. 9. The cordless, hand-held, ultrasonic cautery cutting device according to claim 8, wherein the voltage-control circuit comprises: a processor communicatively coupled to the memory and operable to: interrogate the surgical instrument handle for at least one piece of information pertaining to the surgical instrument handle;receive an instruction from the memory corresponding to the at least one piece of information pertaining to the surgical instrument handle; anddrive the voltage-control circuit according to the instruction. 10. The cordless, hand-held, ultrasonic cautery cutting device according to claim 7, wherein the battery assembly is at least one of watertightly sealed and autoclavably sealed. 11. A cordless, hand-held, ultrasonic surgical device, comprising: at least one handle selected from a set of different surgical handle types each having a battery chamber with connectors therewithin and each being operable to be coupled to at least one ultrasonic waveguide of a plurality of different ultrasonic waveguide types;an ultrasonic-signal-generation assembly: being operable to dynamically produce a resonant wave along the at least one ultrasonic waveguide; andbeing electrically connected to at least some of the connectors within battery chamber; anda battery assembly having: a housing with an exterior shape formed to removably connect with the battery chamber of each of the different surgical handle types, the housing having: at least one energy storage cell operable to power the ultrasonic-signal-generation assembly; anda battery/handle interface having a plurality of connectors shaped to mate with at least some of the connectors within the battery chamber; anda voltage-control circuit operable to: communicatively couple with and provide power to the ultrasonic-signal-generation assembly;detect from the at least one handle which one of the ultrasonic waveguide types is coupled to the at least one handle;provide an output in response to the detected ultrasonic waveguide type. 12. The cordless, hand-held, ultrasonic surgical device according to claim 11, wherein the ultrasonic-signal-generation assembly is removably disposed at the at least one handle. 13. The cordless, hand-held, ultrasonic surgical device according to claim 11, wherein the battery assembly is removable. 14. The cordless, hand-held, ultrasonic surgical device according to claim 11, wherein the output is sufficient to drive the ultrasonic-signal-generation assembly to dynamically produce the resonant wave along the ultrasonic waveguide. 15. The cordless, hand-held, ultrasonic surgical device according to claim 11, wherein the output is an ultrasonic-signal-generation assembly output signal that is specific to the detected ultrasonic waveguide type. 16. The cordless, hand-held, ultrasonic surgical device according to claim 11, wherein the voltage-control circuit comprises a memory operable to receive and store at least one piece of information pertaining to the at least one handle. 17. The cordless, hand-held, ultrasonic surgical device according to claim 11, wherein the voltage-control circuit comprises: a memory operable to receive and store at least one piece of information; anda communication interface coupled to the memory and operable to communicate information from the memory to an information receiver remote from the battery assembly. 18. The cordless, hand-held, ultrasonic surgical device according to claim 17, wherein the information is at least one of: a battery-assembly-use history;a battery assembly identifier;a list of surgical instruments previously powered by the battery assembly; anda software version identifier. 19. The cordless, hand-held, ultrasonic surgical device according to claim 11, wherein the voltage-control circuit comprises a memory operable to store at least two output voltage profiles, each profile corresponding to one of a surgical handle type and an ultrasonic waveguide attachment. 20. The cordless, hand-held, ultrasonic surgical device according to claim 19, wherein the voltage-control circuit comprises: a processor communicatively coupled to the memory and operable to: interrogate the at least one handle for at least one piece of information pertaining to the at least one handle;receive an instruction from the memory corresponding to the at least one piece of information pertaining to the at least one handle; anddrive the voltage-control circuit according to the instruction. 21. The cordless, hand-held, ultrasonic surgical device according to claim 11, wherein the voltage-control circuit comprises a memory operable to receive and store at least one piece of information pertaining to the at least one handle, the at least one piece of information being at least one of: a battery-assembly-use history;a battery assembly identifier;a list of surgical instruments previously powered by the battery assembly; anda software version identifier.
