Embodiments include positioning an analyte sensor in fluid contact with an analyte, detecting an attenuation in a signal from an analyte sensor after positioning during a predetermined time period, categorizing the detected attenuation in the analyte sensor signal based, at least in part, on one or more characteristics of the signal, performing signal processing to generate a reportable data associated with the detected analyte sensor signal during the predetermined time period, managing if and when to request additional reference signal measurements, and managing if and when to temporarily not display results.
1. A method, comprising: programming a processor of an in vivo glucose monitoring system to:monitor a signal received from a glucose sensor positioned in fluid contact with interstitial fluid to determine if a level of the signal is below a predetermined threshold during a predefined period of time

A method, comprising: programming a processor of an in vivo glucose monitoring system to:monitor a signal received from a glucose sensor positioned in fluid contact with interstitial fluid to determine if a level of the signal is below a predetermined threshold during a predefined period of time following sensor positioning;detect an attenuation in the signal when it is determined that the level of the signal is below the predetermined threshold during the predefined period of time following sensor positioning;categorize the detected attenuation in the signal based, at least in part, on one or more characteristics of the signal; andreport information related to the signal when the level of the signal is not determined to be below the predetermined threshold during the predefined period of time following sensor positioning; wherein the detected attenuation in the signal is associated with an early signal attenuation condition. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the predefined time period is within one day of sensor positioning. 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the predefined time period is within one hour of sensor positioning. 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising programming the processor to request a reference measurement when it is determined that the level of the signal is below the predetermined threshold during the predefined period of time following sensor positioning. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the predetermined threshold is related to a predefined signal attenuation level. 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising programming the processor not to report information related to the received glucose signal when it is determined that the level of the signal is below the predetermined threshold during the predefined period of time following sensor positioning. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the glucose sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode, wherein the working electrode comprises a glucose-responsive enzyme and a mediator, wherein at least one of the glucose-responsive enzyme and the mediator is chemically bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode, and wherein at least one of the glucose-responsive enzyme and the mediator is crosslinked with the polymer. 8. An in vivo glucose monitoring system, comprising: an in vivo glucose sensor configured for in vivo positioning such that at least a portion of the sensor is positioned in fluid contact with interstitial fluid; anda processor programmed to receive a signal from the in vivo glucose sensor, monitor the signal to determine if a level of the signal is below a predetermined threshold during a predefined period of time following sensor positioning, detect an attenuation in the signal when it is determined that the level of the signal is below the predetermined threshold during the predefined period of time following sensor positioning, categorize the detected attenuation in the signal based, at least in part, on one or more characteristics of the signal, and report information related to the signal when the level of the signal is not determined to be below the predetermined threshold during the predefined time period following sensor positioning, wherein the detected attenuation in the signal is associated with an early signal attenuation condition. 9. The system of claim 8, wherein the processor is programmed so that the predefined time period is within one day of sensor positioning. 10. The system of claim 9, wherein the processor is programmed so that the predefined time period is within one hour of sensor positioning. 11. The system of claim 8, wherein the processor is programmed to request a reference measurement when it is determined that the level of the signal is below the predetermined threshold during the predefined period of time following sensor positioning. 12. The system of claim 8, wherein the predetermined threshold is related to a predefined signal attenuation level. 13. The system of claim 8, wherein the processor is programmed to not report information related to the signal when it is determined that the level of the signal is below the predetermined threshold during the predefined period of time following sensor positioning. 14. The system of claim 8, wherein the in vivo glucose sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode, wherein the working electrode comprises a glucose-responsive enzyme and a mediator, wherein at least one of the glucose-responsive enzyme and the mediator is chemically bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode, and wherein at least one of the glucose-responsive enzyme and the mediator is crosslinked with the polymer. 15. An apparatus, comprising: a processor programmed to receive a signal from a glucose sensor, monitor the signal to determine if a level of the signal is below a predetermined threshold during a predefined period of time following sensor positioning, detect an attenuation in the signal when it is determined that the level of the signal is below the predetermined threshold during the predefined period of time following sensor positioning, categorize the detected attenuation in the signal based, at least in part, on one or more characteristics of the signal, and report information related to the signal when the level of the signal is not determined to be below the predetermined threshold during the predefined time period following sensor positioning, wherein the detected attenuation in the signal is associated with an early signal attenuation condition. 16. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the processor is programmed so that the predefined time period is within one day of sensor positioning. 17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the processor is programmed so that the predefined time period is within one hour of sensor positioning. 18. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the processor is programmed to request a reference measurement when it is determined that the level of the signal is below the predetermined threshold during the predefined period of time following sensor positioning. 19. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the predetermined threshold is related to a predefined signal attenuation level. 20. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the processor is programmed to not report information related to the signal when it is determined that the level of the signal is below the predetermined threshold during the predefined period of time following sensor positioning.
