Methods and devices are provided for embedding auxiliary information in a host content in a manner that reduces memory, bandwidth and computational complexity of the embedding and transmission systems. One methodology relates to receiving a set of watermark embedding parameters produced at a pre-processing node by pre-processing the host content. The watermark embedding parameters enable embedding each of a plurality of host content segments with any one of at least two different logical values. To embed the auxiliary information, the host content is modified on a segment-by-segment basis using the set of watermark embedding parameters and in accordance with a control signal that designates one of the at least two logical values for embedding into a selected segment of the host content. The generation of watermark embedding parameters at a pre-processing node reduces storage, transmission and computational complexity of embedding operations that can occur at locations other than the pre-processing node.

A method for embedding auxiliary information in a host content, comprising: receiving a set of watermark embedding parameters, the set of watermark embedding parameters having been produced at a pre-processing node by pre-processing the host content, the watermark embedding parameters further enabling embedding each of a plurality of host content segments with any one of at least two different logical values;obtaining the host content; andmodifying the host content, using one or more components that are implemented at least partially in hardware, to embed the auxiliary information in the host content, wherein the modifying is carried out on a segment-by-segment basis using the set of watermark embedding parameters and in accordance with a control signal that designates one of the at least two logical values for embedding into a selected segment of the host content. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of watermark embedding parameters includes one or more of an instruction, a parameter, a function and a signal. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein one or both of the received set of watermark embedding parameters and the control signal are in one or both of: a compressed format and an encrypted format. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of embedding parameters enables tailoring of the embedded watermarks based on one or more predefined conditions. 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the one or more predefined conditions correspond to one or more of the following: a quality of the host content,a type of device that is intended to be used for presentation of the host content,a distribution format of the host content,a genre of the host content,a sales price of the host content,a delivery mechanism of the host content,a user that is intended to receive the host content, andwhether or not the host content includes pre-existing watermarks. 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the embedded auxiliary information at least partially obscures presentation of the host content. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of watermark embedding parameters are renewable. 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the host content is a real-time content. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein: the set of watermark embedding parameters is received at a first distribution node;the control signal is generated at the first distribution node; andthe set of watermark embedding parameters and the control signal are transmitted from the first distribution node to a second node for modifying the host content. 10. The method of claim 1, wherein: the control signal is generated at a first distribution node and transmitted to a second node; andthe set of watermark embedding parameters is received at the second node for modifying the host content. 11. The method of claim 1, wherein a portion of operations needed to embed the auxiliary information is performed at one location and the remaining operations needed to embed the auxiliary information are performed at another location. 12. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of watermark embedding parameters comprises information indicating one or more position within the host content for embedding one or more of the at least two logical values. 13. The method of claim 1, wherein the embedded auxiliary information corresponds to a first transaction, and the method further comprises modifying the host content to embed auxiliary information corresponding to a second transaction. 14. The method of claim 1, wherein the embedded auxiliary information identifies one of: a user of the host content, a request for the host content, a user account, a distributor of the host content, a source of the host content, an entity, the host content delivered to a specific destination, a user's order of the host content, a rights holder of the host content, an industry policing organization, and a device which performs the modifying. 15. A method for facilitating embedding of auxiliary information in a host content, comprising: pre-processing digital samples of the host content using a processor implemented at least partially in hardware to generate a set of watermark embedding parameters, the set of watermark embedding parameters enabling embedding each of a plurality of host content segments with any one of at least two different logical values;providing the set of watermark embedding parameters to a transaction node or to a user premises to enable embedding of auxiliary information in the host content through segment-by-segment modification of the host content using the set of watermark embedding parameters and in accordance with a control signal that designates one of the at least two logical values for embedding into a selected segment of the host content. 16. The method of claim 15, wherein the set of watermark embedding parameters includes one or more of an instruction, a parameter, a function and a signal. 17. The method of claim 15, further comprising preforming one or both of: compressing the set of watermark embedding parameters and encrypting the set of watermark embedding parameters. 18. The method of claim 15, wherein the set of embedding parameters enables tailoring of the embedded watermarks based on one or more predefined conditions. 19. The method of claim 18, wherein the one or more predefined conditions correspond to one or more of the following: a quality of the host content,a type of device that is intended to be used for presentation of the host content,a distribution format of the host content,a genre of the host content,a sales price of the host content,a delivery mechanism of the host content,a user that is intended to receive the host content, andwhether or not the host content includes pre-existing watermarks. 20. The method of claim 15, wherein the watermark embedding parameters enable embedding of auxiliary information that at least partially obscure presentation of the host content. 21. The method of claim 15, further comprising: generating a set of revised watermark embedding parameters; andtransmitting the set of revised watermark embedding parameters to the transaction node or the user premises. 22. The method of claim 15, wherein the pre-processing includes one or more of: gain calculation, analysis of the host content for determination of psycho-visual or psycho-acoustical factors, provision of anti-collusion signals, and provision of masking signals. 23. The method of claim 15, wherein: the set of watermark embedding parameters is provided to a first distribution node;the control signal is generated at the first distribution node; andthe set of watermark embedding parameters and the control signal are transmitted from the first distribution node to a second node for modifying the host content. 24. The method of claim 15, wherein: the control signal is generated at a first distribution node and transmitted to a second node; andthe set of watermark embedding parameters transmitted to the second node for modifying the host content. 25. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of watermark embedding parameters comprises information indicating one or more positions within the host content for embedding one or more of the at least two logical values. 26. The method of claim 15, wherein the embedded auxiliary information identifies one of: a user of the host content, a request for the host content, a user account, a distributor of the host content, a source of the host content, an entity, the host content delivered to a specific destination, a user's order of the host content, a rights holder of the host content, an industry policing organization, and a device which performs the modifying. 27. The method of claim 15, wherein the pre-processing further comprises: analyzing a plurality of different host contents classified as belonging to a particular type or genre of host contents; andgenerating one or more adjustment parameters that correspond to the particular type or genre of host contents; andincluding the one or more adjustment parameters in the set of watermark embedding parameters, wherein the one or more adjustment parameters facilitate embedding of the auxiliary information in all host contents that are classified within the particular type or genre of host contents. 28. The method of claim 15, wherein the pre-processing further comprises: analyzing a plurality of different host contents classified as belonging to a plurality of different type or genre of host contents; andgenerating a universal adjustment parameter; andincluding the universal adjustment parameter in the set of watermark embedding parameters, wherein the universal adjustment parameter facilitates embedding of the auxiliary information in all hosts contents that are classified within the plurality of different type or genre of host contents. 29. A device, comprising: a receiver configured to receive a set of watermark embedding parameters, the set of watermark embedding parameters having been produced at a pre-processing node by pre-processing a host content, the watermark embedding parameters further enabling embedding each of a plurality of host content segments with any one of at least two different logical values;the receiver further configured to obtain the host content; anda microprocessor configured to modify the host content to embed the auxiliary information in the host content, wherein the microprocessor is configured to modify the host content on a segment-by-segment basis using the set of watermark embedding parameters and in accordance with a control signal that designates one of the at least two logical values for embedding into a selected segment of the host content. 30. The device of claim 29, wherein the set of watermark embedding parameters includes one or more of an instruction, a parameter, a function and a signal. 31. The device of claim 29, further configured to carry out one or both of the following operations: (a) decrypt one or both of the set of watermark embedding parameters and (b) decompress one or both of the set of watermark embedding parameters. 32. The device of claim 29, wherein the microprocessor is configured to use the set of embedding parameters to tailor the embedded watermarks based on one or more predefined conditions. 33. The device of claim 32, wherein the one or more predefined conditions correspond to one or more of the following: a quality of the host content,a type of device that is intended to be used for presentation of the host content,a distribution format of the host content,a genre of the host content,a sales price of the host content,a delivery mechanism of the host content,a user that is intended to receive the host content, andwhether or not the host content includes pre-existing watermarks. 34. The device of claim 29, wherein the microprocessor is configured to modify the host content such that the embedded auxiliary information at least partially obscure presentation of the host content. 35. The device of claim 29, further configured to receive a revised set of watermark embedding parameters. 36. The device of claim 29, wherein the receiver is configured to receive the host content as a real-time content. 37. A system comprising the device of claim 29, wherein the system further comprises a first distribution node comprising a distribution node receiver configured to receive the set of watermark embedding parameters from the pre-processing node, the first distribution node further comprising: a control component configured to generate the control signal, anda transmitter configured to transmit the set of watermark embedding parameters and the control signal from the first node to a second node; andwherein the microprocessor is located at the second node. 38. A system comprising the device of claim 29, wherein: the control signal is generated at a first distribution node and transmitted to a second node; andthe set of watermark embedding parameters is received from the pre-processing node at the second node for modifying the host content. 39. The device of claim 29, wherein the embedded auxiliary information identifies one of: a user of the host content, a request for the host content, a user account, a distributor of the host content, a source of the host content, an entity, the host content delivered to a specific destination, a user's order of the host content, a rights holder of the host content, an industry policing organization, and a device which performs the modifying. 40. A hand-held device comprising the device of claim 29. 41. The device of claim 40, wherein the hand-held device in a mobile phone. 42. A device, comprising: a microprocessor configured to process a host content to generate a set of watermark embedding parameters, the set of watermark embedding parameters enabling embedding each of a plurality of host content segments with any one of at least two different logical values;a transmitter configured to provide the set of watermark embedding parameters to a transaction node or to a user premises to enable embedding of auxiliary information in the host content through segment-by-segment modification of the host content using the set of watermark embedding parameters and in accordance with a control signal that designates one of the at least two logical values for embedding into a selected segment of the host content. 43. The device of claim 42, wherein the set of watermark embedding parameters includes one or more of an instruction, a parameter, a function and a signal. 44. The device of claim 42, wherein the microprocessor is further configured to perform one or both of: compression the set of watermark embedding parameters and encryption of the set of watermark embedding parameters. 45. The device of claim 42, wherein the set of embedding parameters enables tailoring of the embedded watermarks based on one or more predefined conditions. 46. The device of claim 42, wherein the microprocessor is further configured to: generate a set of revised watermark embedding parameters; andtransmit the set of revised watermark embedding parameters to the transaction node or the user premises. 49. The device of claim 42, wherein the microprocessor is configured to carry out one or more of: gain calculation, analysis of the host content for determination of psycho-visual or psycho-acoustical factors, provision of anti-collusion signals, and provision of masking signals. 50. A system comprising the device of claim 42, wherein: the system includes a first distribution node;the transmitter is configured to transmit the set of watermark embedding parameters to the first distribution node; andthe first distribution node comprises: a distribution node receiver configured to receive the set of watermark embedding parameters;a control component configured to generate the control signal; anda distribution node transmitter configured to transmit the set of watermark embedding parameters and the control signal from the first distribution node to a second node for modifying the host content. 51. A system comprising the device of claim 42, wherein: the system includes a first distribution node comprising: a control component configured to generate the control signal; anda distribution node transmitter configured to transmit the control signal from the first distribution node to a second node for modifying the host content. 52. The device of claim 42, wherein the embedded auxiliary information identifies one of: a user of the host content, a request for the host content, a user account, a distributor of the host content, a source of the host content, an entity, the host content delivered to a specific destination, a user's order of the host content, a rights holder of the host content, an industry policing organization, and a device which performs the modifying. 53. The device of claim 42, wherein the microprocessor is further configured to: analyze a plurality of different host contents classified as belonging to a particular type or genre of host contents; andgenerate one or more adjustment parameters that correspond to the particular type or genre of host contents; andinclude the one or more adjustment parameters in the set of watermark embedding parameters, wherein the one or more adjustment parameters facilitate embedding of the auxiliary information in all host contents that are classified within the particular type or genre of host contents. 54. The device of claim 42, wherein the microprocessor is further configured to: analyze a plurality of different host contents classified as belonging to a plurality of different type or genre of host contents; andgenerate a universal adjustment parameter; andinclude the universal adjustment parameter in the set of watermark embedding parameters, wherein the universal adjustment parameter facilitates embedding of the auxiliary information in all hosts contents that are classified within the plurality of different type or genre of host contents. 55. The device of claim 42, wherein the set of watermark embedding parameters comprises information indicating one or more position within the host content for embedding one or more of the at least two logical values.
