A method and system for providing a sanitizing treatment for a product or object while inside a package. The system provides an atmosphere inside a contained environment that reduces, or eliminates, oxygen from the atmosphere, the contained environment containing at least one product or object packaged inside a package. At least one UV energy source transmits ultraviolet energy through the atmosphere inside the contained environment and toward the packaged product or object contained therein, the ultraviolet energy providing at least one of a sanitizing, disinfecting and sterilizing treatment to the packaged product or object by converting oxygen in an atmosphere between an inside surface of the package of the packaged product or object and the surface of the product or object to ozone in the atmosphere therebetween.

1. A multi-compartment package for providing at least one of a sanitizing, disinfecting, and sterilizing treatment to a product or object inside the package, comprising: a main compartment for containing a product or object therein; andat least a first compartment adjacent to the main compartment and being separate and divided from the main compartment by packaging material comprising a composition that allows ultraviolet energy from at least a first ultraviolet energy source in the first compartment to pass through the packaging material and into the main compartment, the first compartment being filled with an atmosphere comprising nitrogen such that there is little to no oxygen molecules in the first compartment and containing at least a first ultraviolet energy source therein, the at least a first ultraviolet energy source being controllable to emit ultraviolet energy from the first compartment, through the packaging material, and into the main compartment thereby providing at least one of a sanitizing, disinfecting and sterilizing treatment to the product or object inside the package. 2. The package of claim 1, wherein the main compartment contains a head space atmosphere between an inner surface of the main compartment of the package and an outer surface of the product or object, and wherein the at least a first ultraviolet energy source emits first ultraviolet energy comprising a first wavelength range of approximately 200 nanometers and with sufficient ultraviolet energy at that first wavelength range inside the main compartment to convert oxygen to ozone in a head space atmosphere in the main compartment thereby providing at least one of a sanitizing, disinfecting and sterilizing treatment to the product or object inside the package. 3. The package of claim 1, wherein the at least a first ultraviolet energy source emits first ultraviolet energy within a wavelength range approximately between 240 nanometers to approximately 280 nanometers and with sufficient ultraviolet energy at that first wavelength range inside the main compartment to provide an antimicrobial ultraviolet energy treatment to the outer surface of the product or object. 4. The package of claim 1, wherein the package is constructed of a flexible construction, and the package including a top cover that can be removed to permit access to the main compartment to place a product or object therein or to remove the product or object therefrom, and when the top cover is in place the main compartment contains a head space atmosphere between an inner surface of the main compartment of the package and an outer surface of the product or object. 5. The package of claim 1, wherein the package is constructed of a flexible construction. 6. The package of claim 1, wherein the first compartment being filled with an atmosphere comprising nitrogen and at least one of a noble gas, Argon gas, helium gas, and an inert gas, such that there is little to no oxygen molecules in the first compartment and containing the at least a first ultraviolet energy source therein. 7. The package of claim 1, wherein the package construction comprising the shape of at least one of: a box, a cylinder, and a container that holds a product or object in a main compartment inside the package. 8. The package of claim 1, wherein the at least a first compartment adjacent to the main compartment is separate and divided from the main compartment by packaging material constructed of at least one of a rigid, semi rigid, and a flexible construction and comprising a composition that allows ultraviolet energy from the at least a first ultraviolet energy source in the first compartment to pass through the packaging material and into the main compartment. 9. The package of claim 1, wherein the package construction comprising a rigid construction. 10. The package of claim 1, wherein the package including a top lid that permits access to the main compartment to place a product or object therein or to remove the product or object therefrom, and when the top lid is in place the main compartment contains a head space atmosphere between an inner surface of the main compartment of the package and an outer surface of the product or object. 11. The package of claim 10, wherein the at least a first ultraviolet energy source emits ultraviolet energy from the first compartment into the head space atmosphere in the main compartment to provide at least one of a sanitizing, disinfecting and sterilizing treatment to the product or object inside the package. 12. The package of claim 11, wherein the at least a first ultraviolet energy source emits ultraviolet energy in the head space atmosphere to convert oxygen to ozone in the head space atmosphere in the main compartment thereby providing at least one of a sanitizing, disinfecting and sterilizing treatment to the product or object inside the package. 13. The package of claim 1, wherein the at least a first compartment comprises a plurality of compartments, each of the plurality of compartments being adjacent to the main compartment and being separate and divided from the main compartment by packaging material comprising a composition that allows ultraviolet energy from at least one ultraviolet energy source in the each of the plurality of compartments to pass through the packaging material and into the main compartment thereby providing at least one of a sanitizing, disinfecting and sterilizing treatment to the product or object inside the package. 14. The package of claim 13, wherein each of the plurality of compartments being adjacent to the main compartment and being separate and divided from the main compartment by packaging material constructed of at least one of a rigid, semi rigid, and a flexible construction and comprising a composition that allows ultraviolet energy from at least a first ultraviolet energy source in the first compartment to pass through the packaging material and into the main compartment. 15. A package for containing a product or object inside the package, comprising: a main compartment for containing a product or object therein; andat least a first compartment adjacent to the main compartment and being separate and divided from the main compartment by packaging material comprising a composition that allows ultraviolet energy from at least a first ultraviolet energy source in the first compartment to pass through the packaging material and into the main compartment, the first compartment being filled with an atmosphere comprising at least one of nitrogen, a noble gas, Argon gas, helium gas, and an inert gas, such that there is little to no oxygen molecules in the first compartment and containing at least a first ultraviolet energy source therein, the at least a first ultraviolet energy source being controllable to emit ultraviolet energy from the first compartment, through the packaging material, and into the main compartment thereby providing at least one of a sanitizing, disinfecting and sterilizing treatment to the product or object inside the package. 16. The package of claim 15, wherein the main compartment contains a head space atmosphere between an inner surface of the main compartment of the package and an outer surface of the product or object, and wherein the at least a first ultraviolet energy source emits ultraviolet energy in the head space atmosphere in the main compartment to provide at least one of a sanitizing, disinfecting and sterilizing treatment to the product or object inside the package. 17. The package of claim 16, wherein the at least a first ultraviolet energy source emits ultraviolet energy in the head space atmosphere to convert oxygen to ozone in the head space atmosphere in the main compartment thereby providing at least one of a sanitizing, disinfecting and sterilizing treatment to the product or object inside the package. 18.
