Systems and methods for delivering digital content to a mobile device from a digital content provider are disclosed. Digital content is selected using a selection interface on the mobile device. The selected content is then transferred to a computing device by the digital content provider and subsequently transferred to the mobile device by the computing device. In some embodiments, the digital content is reformatted before being transferred to the mobile device. The digital content may be streamed from the computer system to the mobile device. A service provider of a network through which the mobile device connects to the digital content provider may bill a user of the mobile device on behalf of the digital content provider. The digital content provider may bill the user of the mobile device using a Premium SMS service.

A system for delivery of digital content to a mobile device comprising: a server hosting digital content, wherein the server: transfers digital content to a computing device via a network connection, the digital content transferred in response to a user selection at the mobile device, andconducts a financial transaction related to the user selection by: sending an Short Message Service (SMS) message to the mobile device via the network, the SMS message requesting authorization from the user for the financial transaction,receiving the authorization for the financial transaction,submitting information related to the financial transaction to a mobile network service provider associated with the mobile device in response to receiving the authorization for the financial transaction, wherein the information related to the financial transaction comprises a price of the digital content, wherein the information related to the financial transaction enables the mobile network service provider to add the price of the digital content to a mobile service provider bill sent to the user, andreceiving from the mobile network service provider at least a portion of the price of the digital content,a computing device communicatively coupled to the server and the mobile device via at least one network, wherein the computing device: receives the digital content from the server via the network connection,stores the digital content in a computer readable storage medium, andtransfers a representation of the digital content to the mobile device via a mobile network connection, the representation of the digital content transferred in response to the user selection at the mobile device. 2. The system of claim 1, wherein the computing device is further configured to reformat the digital content before transferring the representation of the digital content to the mobile device. 3. The system of claim 2, wherein reformatting the digital content is performed based upon available bandwidth of the mobile network connection. 4. The system of claim 2, wherein reformatting the digital content is performed based, at least in part, upon a characteristic of the mobile device. 5. The system of claim 4, wherein the characteristic of the mobile device is selected from one or more of screen size, screen resolution, and memory size. 6. The system of claim 4, wherein the characteristic of the mobile device comprises available free memory on the mobile device. 7. The system of claim 4, wherein the characteristic of the mobile device is selected from one or more of supported codecs, supported bit rate, supported sampling rate, supported sample resolution, supported video frame rate, and processing power. 8. The system of claim 4, wherein the characteristic of the mobile device is selected from one or more of user-selectable preference and preset preference. 9. The system of claim 2, wherein reformatting the digital content is performed based, at least in part, upon a characteristic of the digital content. 10. The system of claim 9, wherein the characteristic of the digital content comprises a size of the digital content. 11. The system of claim 9, wherein the characteristic of the digital content is selected from one or more of access history and a probability of being requested by the mobile device. 12. The system of claim 1, wherein transfer of digital content includes streaming the representation of the digital content to the mobile device via the mobile network connection. 13. The system of claim 1, wherein to conduct the financial transaction related to the user selection, the server further receives a unique authentication token provided by the mobile device for validation of the financial transaction, the authentication token including at least one identifying element selected from the group consisting of Electronic Serial Number (ESN), telephone number, customer account number, user ID, and password. 14. The system of claim 1, wherein the SMS message comprises a Premium SMS message or a Reverse Billed SMS message. 15. The system of claim 1, wherein the computing device acts as a proxy to facilitate communication between the mobile device and the server hosting digital content. 16. The system of claim 1, further comprising: a central server communicatively coupled to the computing device and to the mobile device, the central server configured to: relay the representation of the digital content from the computing device to the mobile device; anddetermine whether to reformat the representation of the digital content at the central server while relaying the representation of the digital content to the mobile device. 17. The system of claim 1, wherein the computing device is further configured to selectively transfer a representation of a portion of the digital content to the mobile device, wherein the portion of the digital content is less than the total digital content received from the server via the network connection. 18. The system of claim 1, wherein the mobile device is configured to selectively replace existing digital content with the representation of the digital content transferred to the mobile device by the computing device. 19. The system of claim 1, wherein the digital content received from the server via the network connection includes multiple representations of the digital content to the computing device. 20. The system of claim 1, wherein, when conducting the financial transaction, the server: sends to the mobile device a message encoded to enable the user to use the mobile device to reply to the message with a confirmation to purchase the selected digital content at the price; andin response to sending the message, receives from the mobile device the confirmation to purchase the selected digital content at the price. 21. The system of claim 1, wherein the server: validates the financial transaction upon receiving a unique authentication token from the mobile device.
