The present invention relates to compositions containing stabilized and/or activated urease inhibitors, as well as methods of making and using the same.

A composition, comprising at least one cellulosic fiber;at least one urease inhibitor;at least one urease inhibitor stabilizer selected from the group consisting of polyethylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, and mixtures thereof;water; andat least one activator selected from the group consisting of 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO), 4-hydroxy 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (4-hydroxy TEMPO), 4-oxy-TEMPO, 4-acetamido-TEMPO, 4-phosphonooxy-TEMPO, N-hydroxybenzotriazole, N-hydroxymaleimide, N-hydroxysuccinamide, N-hydroxyphthalimide, hydroxybenzothiazole, oxa-benzotriazole, d-pyridine-triazole, aza-pyridine-triazole, violuric acid, benzotriazole-based UV absorber, hindered amine having the formula: where R0—O. radical, —OH, —O-phenyl substituted or unsubstituted —O-alkyl having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or —H, and where R1 is hydrogen, oxo, hydroxy, acetoamido, or phosphonooxy group, and mixtures thereof;wherein the composition does not contain a biocide or an enzyme; andwherein a fluff pulp treated with at least one combination of urease inhibitor and activator achieves at least an 81% reduction of NH3 after 12 hrs compared to the fluff pulp treated with the activator alone. 2. The composition according to claim 1, further comprising an inert substance selected from the group consisting of dessicant, talc, calcium stearate, stearate, stearic acid, palmitate, zeolite, calcium chloride, calcium carbonate, ammonium chloride, anhydrous silica, calcium silicate, aluminosilicate, diatomaceous earth, phosphate, sodium phosphate, potassium phosphate, ammonium phosphate, calcium phosphate, hydroxyapatite, superabsorbent polymer, superabsorbent particle, polyvinyl polypyrrolidone, alumina, silica, water absorbing compounds, water barrier forming compounds, and a mixture thereof. 3. The composition according to claim 1, further comprising a dessicant. 4. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the urease inhibitor is selected from the group consisting of a n-alkyl phosphoric triamide, n-alkyl thiophosphoric triamide, and a phosphoroamidate. 5. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the urease inhibitor is selected from the group consisting of n-butyl thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT), phenyl phosphorodiamidate (PPDA), and mixtures thereof. 6. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the urease inhibitor is present in an amount ranging from 0.5 ppm to 10 wt % based upon the total weight of the composition. 7. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the urease inhibitor stabilizer is present in an amount ranging from 0.1 to 20 wt % based upon the total weight of the composition. 8. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the activator is selected from the group consisting of hindered amine having said formula, N-hydroxybenzotriazole, N-hydroxymaleimide, N-hydroxysuccinamide, N-hydroxyphthalimide, hydroxybenzothiazole, oxa-benzotriazole, d- and aza-pyridinetriazole, violuric acid, and UV absorbers based on benzotriazole. 9. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the activator is selected from the group consisting of 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO), 4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (4-hydroxy TEMPO), and mixtures thereof. 10. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the activator is present in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 10 wt % based upon the total weight of the composition. 11. The composition according to claim 2, wherein the inert substance is selected from the group consisting of water absorbing compounds and water barrier forming compounds. 12. The composition according to claim 2, wherein the inert substance is a dessicant. 13. The composition according to claim 2, wherein the inert substance is selected from the group consisting of superabsorbent particles. 14. The composition according to claim 1, further comprising talc. 15. The composition according to wherein the inert substance is present in an amount ranging from 0.1 to 10 wt % based upon the total weight of the composition. 16. The composition according to claim 1, further comprising from 0.1 to 10 wt % of at least one dessicant based upon the total weight of the composition. 17. An article, comprising the composition according to claim 1. 18. The article according to claim 17, wherein the article is selected from the group consisting of an absorbent article and a personal hygiene article. 19. The article according to claim 17, wherein the article is selected from the group consisting of a diaper, a feminine hygiene article, and an adult incontinency product. 20. The article according to claim 17, further comprising at least one super absorbent particle. 21. The composition of claim 1, further comprising: at least one super absorbent particle. 22. The composition according to claim 21, wherein the super absorbent particle has a particle size that is less than 100 microns. 23. The composition according to claim 21, wherein the composition is a particle. 24. The composition according to claim 21, wherein the stabilizer coats the cellulosic fiber. 25. The composition according to claim 21, wherein the stabilizer is polyethylene glycol. 26. The composition according to claim 21, wherein the stabilizer is dipropylene glycol. 27. The composition according to claim 21, wherein the stabilizer forms a matrix in which the urease inhibitor, the cellulosic fiber, and the super absorbent particle reside. 28. An article, comprising the composition according to claim 21. 29. The article according to claim 28, wherein the article is selected from the group consisting of an absorbent article and a personal hygiene article. 30. The article according to claim 28, wherein the article is selected from the group consisting of a diaper, a feminine hygiene article, and an adult incontinency product. 31. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the activator is a hindered amine having the formula: where R0 is a —O. radical, —OH, —O-phenyl, substituted or unsubstituted —O-alkyl having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or —H; and where R1 is a hydrogen, oxo, hydroxy, acetoamido, or phosphonooxy group. 32. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the urease inhibitor is selected from the group consisting of boron compounds, fluoride compounds, sulfur compounds, organo boron acid compounds, hexamethylenetetramines, urea derivatives, dithiocarbamates, thiuram disulfides, sulfides, xanthates, hydroxamic acids, mono-hydroxamic acids, di-hydroxamic acids, maleimides, maleic hydrazides, mucochloric acid, bromo-nitro compounds, heterocyclic sulfur compounds, phosphorus containing compounds, phosphorothioate containing compounds, phosphoromonoamidates, phosphorodiamidates, thiophosphorodiamidates, phenylphosphorodiamidate (PPDA), polyphosphorodiamides, phosphorodiamidic acid esters, diamidophosphorothiolates, diamidothiophosphorothiolates, phosphoric triamides, thiophosphoric triamides, N-alkylated phosphoric triamide, cyclohexyl phosphoric triamide, N-butyl phosphoric triamide, N-butyl thiophosphoric triamide, and any mixture thereof. 33. A composition, comprising: at least one cellulosic fiber;at least one urease inhibitor;water; andat least one activator selected from the group consisting of 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine, 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO), 4-hydroxy 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (4-hydroxy TEMPO), 4-oxy-TEMPO, 4-acetamido-TEMPO, 4-phosphonooxy-TEMPO, N-hydroxybenzotriazole, N-hydroxymaleimide, N-hydroxysuccinamide, N-hydroxyphthalimide, hydroxybenzothiazole, oxa-benzotriazole, d-pyridine-triazole, aza-pyridine-triazole, violuric acid, benzotriazole-based UV absorber, hindered amine having the formula: where R0 is —O. radical, —OH, —O-phenyl, substituted or unsubstituted —O-alkyl having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or —H, and where R1 is hydrogen, oxo, hydroxy, acetoamido, or phosphonooxy group, and mixtures thereof;wherein the composition does not contain a biocide or an enzyme; andwherein a fluff pulp treated with at least one combination of urease inhibitor and activator achieves at least an 81% reduction of NH3 after 12 hrs compared to the fluff pulp treated with the activator alone.
