The robotic catheter system of claim 3, wherein the opening of the second channel is sized such that a hub located at a proximal end of the working catheter does not fit into the second channel. 5. The robotic catheter system of claim 3, wherein the first catheter device is further comprising a guide wire axial drive mechanism. 6. The robotic catheter system of claim 1, wherein the recess includes a first sidewall section and a second sidewall section, wherein the first sidewall section and the second sidewall section extend from the sidewall of the housing toward the first channel. 7. The robotic catheter system of claim 6, wherein the first sidewall section is positioned at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the housing extending away from the sidewall of the housing toward the rear end of the housing, and further wherein the second sidewall section is positioned at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the housing extending away from the sidewall of the housing toward the front end of the housing. 8. The robotic catheter system of claim 7, wherein the first sidewall section intersects the second sidewall section. 9. The robotic catheter system of claim 7, wherein an opening into the second channel is located in the first sidewall section of the recess. 10. The robotic catheter system of claim 9, wherein the length of the first sidewall section is less than the length of the second sidewall section. 11. The robotic catheter system of claim 9, further comprising a base plate and a top deck mounted to the base plate above the drive mechanism, wherein sidewall sections of the base plate and the top deck form the first and second sidewall sections of the recess. 12. The robotic catheter system of claim 11, wherein the cover includes a section shaped to match the shape of the recess. 13. The robotic catheter system of claim 1, further comprising a cover movable from a closed position overlying the first channel to an open position exposing the first channel. 14. The robotic catheter system of claim 1 further including a base and a cassette removably coupled to the base; the cassette including the housing, wherein the housing includes a front end, a rear end a sidewall and a longitudinal axis; the cassette including the recess; the drive mechanism including a first axial drive mechanism supported by the housing configured to impart axial movement to a guide wire;the first channel being configured to receive the guide wire;a second axial drive mechanism supported by the housing configured to impart axial movement to a working catheter;a second channel configured to receive the working catheter, the second channel positioned at an angle relative to the first channel, the second channel having an opening located within the recess. 15. The cassette of claim 1, wherein the second channel joins the first channel at a convergence zone. 16. The cassette of claim 15, wherein the second channel extends away from the convergence zone toward the rear end of the housing. 17. The cassette of claim 16, wherein the recess includes a first sidewall section and a second sidewall section, wherein the first sidewall section is positioned at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the housing extending away from the sidewall of the housing toward the rear end of the housing, and further wherein the second sidewall section is positioned at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the housing extending away from the sidewall of the housing toward the front end of the housing. 18. The cassette of claim 17, wherein the opening of the second channel is located in the first sidewall section of the recess. 19. The cassette of claim 1, wherein the cassette is a disposable cassette having a use restriction element for functionally disabling the cassette from being used for a second procedure. 20.
