A method for communication in a wireless system at a base station using one or more clusters of subcarriers, the method comprising: receiving feedback information of at least one cluster of the one or more clusters of the subcarriers used in the wireless system based on a measured channel performance being measured from a subscriber station, the measured channel performance being of at least two subcarriers of the subcarriers, the subcarriers being organized in a plurality of groups, each group of the plurality of groups having a plurality of clusters, and each cluster of the plurality of clusters having a plurality of the subcarriers, the at least one cluster being of the plurality of clusters in a group of the plurality of groups, the feedback information being received on less than all clusters of the plurality of clusters in the group of the plurality of groups, and the feedback information including a cluster index of the at least one cluster of the plurality of clusters in the group of the plurality of groups; andtransmitting an allocation of the one or more clusters of the subcarriers to be used for data transmission. 3. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the feedback information is received for all clusters of the plurality of clusters in the group of the plurality of groups, and wherein the feedback information does not include a cluster index. 4. The method as claimed in claim 2, wherein the feedback information does not include a group identification of the group of the plurality of groups; and receiving feedback information of the plurality of groups, wherein the feedback information of the plurality of groups is provided in a known order. 5. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the feedback information includes a cluster performance parameter. 6. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the feedback information includes a preferred modulation and coding format. 7. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the feedback information includes a signal-to-interference and noise ratio (SINR) information. 8. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the at least one cluster of the plurality of clusters in the group of the plurality of groups is non-contiguous with other clusters of the plurality of clusters in the group of the plurality of groups. 9. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the at least one cluster of the plurality of clusters in the group of the plurality of groups includes consecutive subcarriers. 10. The method as claimed in claim 1, further comprising: mapping, by the subscriber station, between the at least one cluster of the plurality of clusters in the group of the plurality of groups and respective ones of the plurality of the subcarriers in the at least one cluster of the plurality of clusters, the mapping being reconfigurable. 11. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the cluster allocation includes a modulation and coding format for use by the subscriber station for the data transmission. 12. The method as claimed in claim 5, wherein the cluster performance parameter is determined by a performance value measured from respective ones of the plurality of the subcarriers in the at least one cluster of the plurality of clusters. 13. The method as claimed in claim 2, further comprising: receiving feedback information of more than one group of the plurality of groups, wherein the feedback information of the more than one group of the plurality of groups does not include a group identification when the feedback information of the more than one group of the plurality of groups is provided based on a known order of the more than one group of the plurality of groups. 14. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the subscriber station selects the group of the plurality of groups based on overall performance of the group of the plurality of groups. 15. A base station for communication in a wireless system using one or more clusters of subcarriers, said base station configured to: receive feedback information of at least one cluster of the one or more clusters of the subcarriers used in the wireless system based on a measured channel performance being measured from a subscriber station, the measured channel performance being of at least two subcarriers of the subcarriers, the subcarriers being organized in a plurality of groups, each group of the plurality of groups having a plurality of clusters, and each cluster of the plurality of clusters having a plurality of the subcarriers, the at least one cluster being of the plurality of clusters in a group of the plurality of groups, the feedback information being received on less than all groups of the plurality of groups in the wireless system, and the feedback information on less than all groups including a group index for identifying the group of the plurality of groups; andtransmit an allocation of the one or more clusters of the subcarriers to be used for data transmission. 16. A base station for communication in a wireless system using one or more clusters of subcarriers, said base station configured to: receive feedback information of at least one cluster of the one or more clusters of the subcarriers used in the wireless system based on a measured channel performance being measured from a subscriber station, the measured channel performance being of at least two subcarriers of the subcarriers, the subcarriers being organized in a plurality of groups, each group of the plurality of groups having a plurality of clusters, and each cluster of the plurality of clusters having a plurality of the subcarriers, the at least one cluster being of the plurality of clusters in a group of the plurality of groups, the feedback information being received on less than all clusters of the plurality of clusters in the group of the plurality of groups, and the feedback information including a cluster index of the at least one cluster of the plurality of clusters in the group of the plurality of groups; andtransmit an allocation of the one or more clusters of the subcarriers to be used for data transmission. 17. The base station as claimed in claim 15, wherein the feedback information is received for all clusters of the plurality of clusters in the group of the plurality of groups, and wherein the feedback information does not include a cluster index. 18. The base station as claimed in claim 16, wherein the feedback information does not include a group identification of the group of the plurality of groups; and said base station is further configured to receive feedback information of the plurality of groups, wherein the feedback information of the plurality of groups is provided in a known order. 19. The base station as claimed in claim 15, wherein the feedback information includes a cluster performance parameter. 20. The base station as claimed in claim 15, wherein the feedback information includes a preferred modulation and coding format. 21. The base station as claimed in claim 15, wherein the feedback information includes a signal-to-interference and noise ratio (SINR) information. 22. The base station as claimed in claim 15, wherein the at least one cluster of the plurality of clusters in the group of the plurality of groups is non-contiguous with other clusters of the plurality of clusters in the group of the plurality of groups. 23.
