A hand-held dispensing applicator comprising a fluid source, a frangible applicator tip attached to the fluid source, and an absorbent member attached to the frangible applicator tip is provided. When the frangible applicator tip is broken, fluid flows from the source to the absorbent member, whereby the fluid is applied and spread on a surface. Preferably, the frangible applicator tip comprises a support element permanently connected to the fluid source, a relatively rigid tongue element extending outwardly of the support element, and a frangible region there between. Preferably, the tongue element comprises ribs for reinforcing the tongue element to resist unintentional breaking of the frangible region. More preferably, the applicator tip comprises a semi-permeable or non-permeable cover disposed around the frangible region to control the speed and direction of the dispersion of the fluid in the absorbent member.

1. A liquid dispensing applicator, said applicator comprising: (a) a hand-held liquid source for housing a liquid, said source comprising a body having a distal end and a proximal end; and(b) a liquid dispenser for allowing said liquid to be dispensed through said proximal end, said liquid dispenser
1. A liquid dispensing applicator, said applicator comprising: (a) a hand-held liquid source for housing a liquid, said source comprising a body having a distal end and a proximal end; and(b) a liquid dispenser for allowing said liquid to be dispensed through said proximal end, said liquid dispenser comprising: (i) an attachment member connected to said proximal end of said body to secure said liquid dispenser to said body, said attachment member having a passage therethrough to allow fluid to flow from said attachment member through said liquid dispenser;(ii) at least one capillary tube configured to provide fluid communication between said liquid source and said liquid dispenser upon application of pressure to said liquid source; and(iii) a tongue element extending outwardly from said attachment member, said tongue element capping said attachment member;wherein said liquid dispenser further comprises a substantially rigid rib positioned between said attachment member and said tongue element, said rib extending outwardly from said attachment member to said tongue element to control a direction of dispersion of said liquid into said absorbent member. 2. The applicator according to claim 1, wherein said flow of said liquid through said attachment member is restricted because of a reduction in interior diameter of said attachment member relative to said body. 3. The applicator according to claim 1, wherein said flow of said liquid through said at least one capillary tube is restricted because of a reduction in size of said at least one capillary tube relative to said attachment member. 4. The applicator according to claim 1, wherein said flow of said liquid through said at least one capillary tube is restricted because of a reduction in size of a fluid passage area of said at least one capillary tube relative to said attachment member. 5. The applicator according to claim 1, wherein said liquid dispenser further comprises an absorbent member, said absorbent member covering a first side of said liquid dispenser. 6. A hand-held liquid dispensing applicator for applying a liquid to a surface, said applicator comprising: (a) a liquid source comprising a body having a distal end and a proximal end; and(b) a liquid dispenser for allowing a liquid to be dispensed through said proximal end of said source, said liquid dispenser comprising: (i) an attachment member interconnected with said proximal end of said body to secure said liquid dispenser to said body;(ii) at least one capillary tube configured to provide fluid communication between said liquid source and said attachment member upon application of pressure to said liquid source;(iv) a tongue element extending outwardly from said attachment member; and(v) a guide member shield located around said tongue member, said shield being configured with at least a pair of concave sides to guide said liquid flowing from said at least one capillary tube to an application portion of an absorbent member;wherein said attachment member has a passage therethrough to allow said liquid to flow from said body through said attachment member. 7. The applicator according to claim 6, wherein said flow of said liquid through said attachment member is restricted because of a reduction in interior diameter of said attachment member relative to said body. 8. The applicator according to claim 6, wherein said flow of said liquid through said at least one capillary tube is restricted because of a reduction in size of said at least one capillary tube relative to said attachment member. 9. The applicator according to claim 6, wherein said flow of said liquid through said at least one capillary tube is restricted because of a reduction in size of a fluid passage area of said at least one capillary tube relative to said attachment member. 10. The applicator according to claim 6, wherein said liquid dispenser further comprises an absorbent member, said absorbent member covering a first side of said liquid dispenser. 11. The applicator according to claim 6, wherein said liquid dispenser further comprises a substantially rigid rib positioned between said attachment member and said tongue element, said rib extending outwardly from said attachment member to said tongue element to control a direction of dispersion of said liquid into said absorbent member. 12. The applicator according to claim 6, wherein said guide member is formed from a fluid-resistant material selected from the group consisting of natural rubber, synthetic rubber, thermoplastic, cellulosic material, similar fiber, and metal. 13. The applicator according to claim 6, wherein said guide member has a bottom juxtaposed with a base of said absorbent member and a pair of flanks converging towards said distal end of said absorbent member and having free ends, said free ends being spaced apart and terminating at a distance from said distal end so as to allow said liquid to propagate across said absorbent member toward said distal end. 14. The applicator according to claim 6, wherein said guide member has a generally cup-shaped cross section. 15. A liquid dispensing applicator for applying a liquid to a surface, said applicator comprising: an absorbent member having proximal and distal ends, said proximal end in fluid communication with a source of liquid;a guide located within said liquid absorbent member and extending between said proximal and distal ends, said guide being configured with at least a pair of concave sides to direct said liquid from said distal end toward said proximal end to control voluntary evacuation of said liquid through said liquid absorbent member;a substantially rigid tongue element extending outwardly within said absorbent member towards said distal end thereof; andat least one capillary tube configured to provide fluid communication between said liquid source and said absorbent member;wherein said absorbent member is configured to apply a liquid to an external surface to be treated through said distal end. 16. The applicator according to claim 15, wherein said guide is formed from a fluid-resistant material selected from the group consisting of natural rubber, synthetic rubber, thermoplastic, cellulosic material, fiber, and metal. 17. The applicator according to claim 15, wherein a bottom of said shield is configured so as to sealingly surround an outlet port.
