1. A method of playing a video game comprising: providing a game character within a video game executing on a gaming device, the gaming device including a processor operative to execute the following steps, the game character having a virtual appearance characteristic displayable on the gaming device;receiving, within the gaming device, an input signal indicative of a user exercise performance level; andaltering the virtual appearance characteristic in response to receiving the input signal, wherein achievement of a pre-determined exercise performance level results in a virtual appearance characteristic transformation and an improved gaming performance level of the game character within the video game;wherein the video game is executable over the internet as part of an exercise group that includes a first user and a second user, wherein the first user and the second user play the video game and wherein the method further comprises displaying the game character of the first user to the second user as a representation of the first user such that the second user can see that the first user has achieved the pre-determined exercise performance level based on the altered virtual appearance characteristic. 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the game character is an avatar representative of a user. 3. The method of claim 1 wherein providing a game character includes generating a representation of a user based on input from the user. 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the virtual appearance characteristic is represented graphically. 5. The method of claim 1 wherein receiving an input signal includes at least one of receiving input from a monitor, receiving a code from a keyboard, receiving input from a sensor, receiving input from an exercise device, and receiving a verification indication from a third party. 6. The method of claim 1 wherein altering the virtual appearance characteristic includes altering the virtual appearance characteristic to be representative of an effect of performing an exercise. 7. The method of claim 1 wherein an improved gaming performance level of the game character within the video game includes at least one of increased speed, power, strength, life force, striking force, energy level, endurance, and skill level which are useable to improve play performance of the video game. 8. The method of claim 7 wherein altering the virtual appearance characteristic includes altering a second virtual appearance characteristic that is associated with the improved gaming performance level. 9. The method of claim 1 wherein the altering the virtual appearance characteristic includes enlarging a muscle size of the game character. 10. The method of claim 1 wherein the altering the virtual appearance characteristic includes reducing a dress size of the game character. 11. A method of playing a game comprising: providing a game character within a video game executing on a gaming device, the gaming device including a processor operative to execute the following steps, the game character having a virtual appearance characteristic displayable on the gaming device;receiving, within the gaming device, an input signal indicative of achievement of a physical goal by a user; andaltering the virtual appearance characteristic in response to receiving the input signal, wherein achievement of the physical goal of the user results in a virtual appearance characteristic transformation and an improved gaming performance level of the game character within the video game;wherein the video game is executable over the internet as part of an exercise group that includes a first user and a second user, wherein the first user and the second user play the video game and wherein the method further comprises displaying the game character of the first user to the second user as a representation of the first user such that the second user can see that the first user has achieved the physical goal based on the altered virtual appearance characteristic. 12. A system for playing a game comprising: a game system adapted to allow a user to interact with a virtual environment using a game character having a virtual appearance characteristic;an input device coupled to the game system and adapted to provide an input signal to the game system indicative of an exercise performance level of the user; anda game adapted to execute on the game system and further adapted to alter the virtual appearance characteristic in response to receiving the input signal, wherein achievement of a pre-determined exercise performance level results in a virtual appearance characteristic transformation and an improved gaming performance level of the game character within the game;wherein the video game is executable over the internet as part of an exercise group that includes a first user and a second user, wherein the first user and the second user play the video game and wherein the video game displays the game character of the first user to the second user as a representation of the first user such that the second user can see that the first user has achieved the pre-determined exercise performance level based on the altered virtual appearance characteristic. 13. The system of claim 12 wherein the game character is an avatar representative of the user. 14. The system of claim 12 wherein the game is further adapted to generate a representation of the user based on input from the user. 15. The system of claim 12 wherein the virtual appearance characteristic is represented graphically on a display of the game system. 16. The system of claim 12 wherein the input device is adapted to receive input from at least one of a monitor, the user entering a code, a sensor, an exercise device, and a verification indication from a third party. 17. The system of claim 12 wherein the game is further adapted to alter the virtual appearance characteristic to be representative of an effect of performing an exercise. 18. The system of claim 12 wherein the game is further adapted to alter an appearance of the virtual appearance characteristic and to alter a game performance level associated with the virtual appearance characteristic of the game character. 19. The system of claim 12 wherein the game is further adapted to alter an appearance of a second virtual appearance characteristic associated with the altered game performance level. 20. The system of claim 12 wherein the game is further adapted to be played concurrently by a first user and a second user and wherein the game is further adapted to display the game character to the second user as a representation of the first user such that the second user can see that the first user has achieved the user exercise performance level based on the altered virtual appearance characteristic. 21. The system of claim 12 further comprising an exercise device coupled to the input device. 22. The system of claim 12 wherein the game is further adapted to alter an appearance of the virtual appearance characteristic by making the game character appear to be more charismatic. 23. The system of claim 12 wherein the game is further adapted to alter an appearance of the virtual appearance characteristic by making the game character appear to be younger. 24. The system of claim 12 wherein an improved gaming performance level of the game character within the game includes at least one of increased speed, power, strength, life force, striking force, energy level, endurance, and skill level which are useable to improve play performance of the game. 25. The method of claim 11 wherein the game character is an avatar representative of a user. 26. The method of claim 11 wherein altering the virtual appearance characteristic includes altering the virtual appearance characteristic to be representative of an effect of performing an exercise.
