In an embodiment, an orthopedic device in the form of a lumbar support includes first and second elongate belt members, an anatomically shaped plate, and a closure system connecting the belt members to the plate. The closure system is arranged to move the belt members relative to the plate, and connects to the belt members via a flexible belt attachment which removably secures to the belt members. The closure system includes tensioning elements corresponding to the belt members, and a pulley system connecting to the tensioning elements. The closure system is slidably mounted to the plate and arranged to the belt members relative to the plate between opposed linear directions. The plate has various contours which provide pressure distribution over a lumbar region of a back. Anatomically shaped and resiliently formed handles secure to the tensioning elements and the belt members.

1. An orthopedic device, comprising: first and second elongate belt members each having first and second end portions, the first and second belt members formed from non-stretchable material and having a padded core with localized areas of increased and decreased padding, the first end portions of the first and second belt members arranged to removably and repeatedly secure over one another;a back plate being flexible and anatomically shaped to correspond to a lumbar region of a human back, the back plate arranged to relieve pressure over a spinal region of a human back;wherein the second end portion of the first and second belt members connect to the back plate, the first and second belt members having a predetermined length reducible in length from the second end portion such that a reduced length is shorter than the predetermined length and defined between the first end portion and the back plate without modification to the first end portion of the first belt member. 2. The orthopedic device of claim 1, wherein a substantial entirety of an inner surface of the first and second belt members is formed from a ventilated three-dimensional fabric. 3. The orthopedic device of claim 1, wherein size selection indicia are provided along the predetermined length of the first belt member to show size configurations of the first belt member. 4. The orthopedic device of claim 3, wherein the first belt member defines a plurality of transverse reduced thickness regions corresponding to the size selection indicia. 5. The orthopedic device of claim 1, wherein the first belt member defines a plurality of transverse thinned sections bordered by padding areas having greater thickness than the thinned sections. 6. The orthopedic device of claim 1, wherein the first belt member includes an enclosed stiffener located between the first and second end portions. 7. The orthopedic device of claim 6, wherein the first belt member includes a pocket arranged to accommodate the stiffener. 8. The orthopedic device of claim 1, further comprising a closure system coupling the first and second belt members to the back plate, and an elongate first tensioning element having a first end connected to and extending from the closure system, and a second end arranged to secure over an outer surface of the first belt member. 9. The orthopedic device of claim 8, wherein the outer surface of the first belt member includes hook-receiving material and the first end of the first tensioning element includes a handle bearing hook material arranged to engage the hook-receiving material of the first belt member. 10. The orthopedic device of claim 8, wherein the back plate defines a general arcuate contour arranged to provide lordosis support for the wearer, the arcuate contour of the back plate in combination with the closure system is arranged to exert pressure on a wearer. 11. The orthopedic device of claim 1, wherein the back plate defines at least one ventilation opening. 12. The orthopedic device of claim 11, wherein the at least one ventilation opening is arranged in a pattern at locations to facilitate bending of the back plate at a center portion extending about a centerline of the back plate and along an outwardly directed curvature defined by the back plate. 13. The orthopedic device of claim 11, wherein the at least one ventilation opening is defined by a plurality of openings extending generally along the spinal region. 14. The orthopedic device of claim 1, wherein the back plate defines an outwardly directed curvature arranged to generally protrude away from a spinal region of a human back. 15. The orthopedic device of claim 1, further comprising a cover secured to or surrounding the back plate. 16. A method for sizing an orthopedic device, the orthopedic device including first and second elongate belt members having first and second end portions, the first end portion of the first belt member arranged to removably and repeatedly secure to the first end portion of the second belt member, the first belt member having a first predetermined length, the orthopedic device also including a back plate being flexible and anatomically shaped to correspond to a lumbar region of a human back, the back plate arranged to relieve pressure over a spinal region of a human back, the method comprising the steps of: disconnecting the second end portion of the first belt member from the back panel;reducing the predetermined length from the second end portion of the first belt member defined as a reduced length spanning a distance between the first end portion of the first belt member and the back panel, and the reduced length being less than the first predetermined length;connecting the second end portion of the first belt member to the back panel after the reduced length of the first belt member is determined. 17. The method of claim 16, further comprising the step of comparing the length to size selection indicia located along a length of the first belt member to measure the first belt member. 18. The method of claim 16, further comprising a closure system and an elongate first tensioning element having a first end connected to the closure system and a second end connecting to an outer surface of the first belt member. 19. The method of claim 18, further comprising the step of reducing the length of the first tensioning element at the second end thereof, according to the reduced length of the first belt member. 20. An orthopedic device, comprising: first and second elongate belt members having first and second end portions, the first end portion of the first belt member having a geometric shape arranged to removably and repeatedly secure with a corresponding geometric shape of the first end portion of the second belt member, the first and second belt members formed from non-stretchable material and having a padded core with localized areas of increased and decreased padding;a back plate being flexible and anatomically shaped to correspond to a lumbar region of a human back, the back plate arranged to relieve pressure over a spinal region of a human back;a closure system coupling the first and second belt members to the back plate, and an elongate first tensioning element having a first end connected to and extending from the closure system, and a second end arranged to secure over an outer surface of the first belt member;wherein the second end portion of the first and second belt members connect to the back plate, the first and second belt members having a predetermined length reducible in length from the second end portion such that a reduced length is shorter than the predetermined length and defined between the first end portion and the back plate without modification to the first end portion of the first belt member;wherein first tensioning element is reducible in length from the second end thereof according to the reduced length of the first belt member;wherein size selection indicia are provided along the predetermined length of the first belt member to show size configurations of the first belt member.
