The assembly of claim 1 wherein the pan member forms a pair of mounting holes for each opening formed by the pan member, each pair of mounting holes including first and second mounting holes on opposite sides of one of the openings formed by the pan member, the assembly further including a pair of screws for each pair of mounting holes that extend up through the pan member and into the mounting holes. 3. The assembly of claim 2 wherein each castor includes a wheel, each wheel including a top surface, the top surface of each wheel at a height above a height of the underside of the central portion of the pan member. 4. The assembly of claim 1 wherein each leg member has a top end connected to the central hub, the central hub including a lower portion that extends downward below the top end of each of the leg members and toward the central portion of the pan member. 5. The assembly of claim 4 wherein the opening in the top surface opens into a cavity formed in the central hub, the lower portion of the mounting assembly received in the cavity and supported for rotation about a vertical axis. 6. The assembly of claim 5 wherein the mounting assembly includes a cup member that includes an annular wall and a radial flange that extends outward from an upper edge of the annular flange, the cup member received in the cavity formed in the top surface of the central hub with the flange resting on the portion of the top surface surrounding the opening formed by the central hub. 7. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the plurality of legs includes at least three legs. 8. The assembly of claim 7 wherein lower ends of the legs are misaligned with the pintle mounts. 9. The assembly of claim 8 including six pintle mounts. 10. The assembly of claim 1 wherein each pintle mount has a bottom end, the bottom end of each pintle mount extending below the bottom surface of the peripheral portion of the pan member. 11. A base assembly for supporting a chair on an ambient floor surface, the chair including a shell and a mounting assembly mounted to an underside of the shell, the base assembly comprising: (i) a pan member having a top surface, a bottom surface, an outer edge, a central portion and a peripheral portion that surrounds the central portion and that is adjacent the outer edge, the outer edge forming a shape of the pan member, the top surface concave upward with the peripheral portion at a height above a height of the central portion;(ii) a bottom ring forming a loop having a shape that is substantially similar to the shape of the pan member and having an undersurface, the bottom ring mounted to the peripheral portion of the pan member;(iii) a central hub forming a substantially flat top surface and forming an opening in the top surface for receiving a lower portion of the mounting assembly;(iv) a plurality of leg members that extend upward and inward from spaced apart locations of the bottom ring to the central hub spaced from and to support the central hub above the central portion of the pan member; and(v) a plurality of casters supporting the pan, the bottom ring, the central hub and the leg members above the ambient floor surface. 24. The assembly of claim 23 wherein the pan member is mounted to the undersurface of the bottom ring. 25. The assembly of claim 24 wherein a plurality of fasteners pass through the peripheral portion of the pan member and into mounting holes in the undersurface of the bottom ring to secure the pan to the bottom ring. 26. The assembly of claim 24 wherein the bottom ring forms a continuous loop that includes a continuous internal surface that extends substantially vertically upward from the peripheral portion of a top surface of the pan. 27. The assembly of claim 26 wherein the continuous loop further includes a lower peripheral edge that is substantially flush with the outer edge of the pan member and the shape of the pan member forms a continuous circumferential curve. 28.
