1. A cochlear implant headpiece for use with a cochlear implant, comprising: a housing including a housing microphone aperture;a microphone carried within the housing and associated with the housing microphone aperture;a transmitter carried by the housing that transmits signals to the cochlear implant;a housing membrane between the housing microphone aperture and the microphone; anda cap, including a sound port and a cap membrane over the sound port, configured to be positioned on the housing such that the sound port and cap membrane are aligned with the housing microphone aperture;wherein the housing and cap are configured such that they will be removably connected to one another, with the entire cap membrane spaced apart from the housing membrane, when the cap is positioned on the housing. 2. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 1, wherein the housing membrane comprises a hydrophobic housing membrane. 3. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 2, wherein the hydrophobic housing membrane is configured to prevent water passage at water pressures up to about 0.05 bar. 4. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 1, wherein the cap membrane is configured to prevent passage of particles that are at least 30 microns in diameter. 5. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 4, wherein the cap membrane is configured to allow passage of water. 6. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 1, wherein the housing includes a main portion and a cover secured to one another by a joint formed from material from the main portion and cover. 7. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 6, wherein the joint comprises an ultrasonic weld. 8. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 1, further comprising: a magnet carried by the housing. 9. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 1, wherein the microphone includes a microphone housing, a sound aperture, an open region defining a volume within the microphone housing, and a diaphragm between the sound aperture and the open region;the housing microphone aperture and the microphone sound aperture together define a combined volume; andthe combined volume is greater than (0.3)×(volume of the microphone open region). 10. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 1, wherein the housing includes a plurality of latch apertures; andthe cap includes a plurality of latches. 11. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 1, wherein the housing includes an internal volume and the housing microphone aperture extends to the internal volume; andthe microphone is carried within the housing internal volume and aligned with the housing microphone aperture; andthe internal volume is protected against particulate ingress and is protected against moisture ingress to an extent greater than that required to prevent moisture ingress at immersion depths of 15 cm to 1 m for 30 minutes. 12. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 11, wherein the internal volume is protected against particulate ingress and moisture ingress to an extent required to prevent moisture ingress at immersion depths of 3 m for 30 minutes. 13. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 11, wherein the configuration of the housing and microphone is such that the acoustic response of the headpiece is +/−6 dB within the frequency range of 150 Hz to 10 kHz. 14. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 11, wherein the housing microphone aperture is not sealed. 15. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 11, further comprising: a transmitter carried by the housing; anda connector, carried by the housing and operably connected to the transmitter, including an electrically conductive barrel,an electrically conductive socket,an electrical insulator between the barrel and the socket,a first seal compressed between the barrel and the insulator, anda second seal compressed between the socket and the insulator. 16. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 1, wherein the housing defines an inner surface; andthe housing membrane is positioned adjacent to the inner surface. 17. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 1, wherein the cap membrane is not configured to prevent water from reaching the housing membrane; andthe housing membrane is configured to protect against water ingress into the microphone at relatively low pressures. 18. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 1, wherein the housing microphone aperture defines first and second ends;the housing membrane defines a top surface that faces the cap membrane and the cap membrane defines a bottom surface that faces the housing membrane; andthe top surface of the housing membrane and the bottom surface of the cap membrane are respectively located at opposite ends of the housing microphone aperture. 19. A cochlear implant headpiece as claimed in claim 1, further comprising: a magnet carried by the housing that maintains the position of headpiece over the cochlear implant.
