The surgical instrument can further comprise a shaft and an articulation joint configured to articulate the end effector relative to the shaft. In addition, the surgical instrument can further comprise a firing member configured to deploy a plurality of staples from the staple cartridge and a drive assembly including a drive member configured to move the firing member. The drive assembly may also include a stop configured to engage the datum portion to limit the movement of the drive member after the plurality of staples are fired.

The surgical instrument of claim 1, wherein the stop is configured to travel a predetermined distance before engaging the datum portion. 3. The surgical instrument of claim 1, wherein the drive member further comprises a cutting member, wherein the cutting member comprises a cutting edge, and wherein the cutting edge and the stop define a predetermined distance therebetween. 4. The surgical instrument of claim 3, wherein the staple cartridge further comprises a cutting slot configured to receive the cutting edge. 5. The surgical instrument of claim 1, wherein the end effector further comprises: a plurality of jaws configured to capture tissue therebetween; anda cutting member configured to cut the captured tissue, wherein the stop is configured to engage the datum portion after the cutting member cuts the captured tissue. 6. The surgical instrument of claim 1, wherein the housing assembly further comprises a power source configured to provide power to the motor. 7. The surgical instrument of claim 6, wherein the power source comprises a battery. 8. A surgical instrument, comprising: a housing assembly including a motor;a first shaft portion extending from the housing assembly;a second shaft portion comprising a datum portion;an end effector extending from the second shaft portion, the end effector comprising: a staple cartridge including a plurality of staples; anda firing member configured to deploy the plurality of staples;an articulation joint configured to permit the end effector to articulate relative to the second shaft portion; anda drive assembly, comprising: a drive member configured to move the firing member in response to at least one driving motion from the motor, wherein the drive member is moveable during a firing stroke, wherein the firing stroke comprises a beginning and an end, wherein at the beginning of the firing stroke none of the staples have been fired and the drive member is at a proximal position, wherein at the end of the firing stroke all of the staples have been fired and the drive member is at a distal position; anda stop configured to engage the datum portion to limit the movement of the drive member at the end of the firing stroke. 9. The surgical instrument of claim 8, wherein the stop is configured to travel a predetermined distance before engaging the datum portion. 10. The surgical instrument of claim 8, wherein the drive member further comprises a cutting member, wherein the cutting member comprises a cutting edge, and wherein the cutting edge and the stop define a predetermined distance therebetween. 11. The surgical instrument of claim 10, wherein the staple cartridge further comprises a cutting slot configured to receive the cutting edge. 12. The surgical instrument of claim 8, wherein the end effector further comprises: a plurality of jaws configured to capture tissue therebetween; anda cutting member configured to cut the captured tissue, wherein the stop is configured to engage the datum portion after the cutting member cuts the captured tissue. 13. The surgical instrument of claim 8, wherein the housing assembly further comprises a power source configured to provide power to the motor. 14. The surgical instrument of claim 13, wherein the power source comprises a battery. 15. A surgical instrument, comprising: a housing assembly, comprising: a motor; anda power source configured to provide power to the motor;a shaft portion extending from the housing assembly;an end effector, comprising: a staple cartridge including a plurality of staples;a firing member configured to deploy the plurality of staples; anda distal end;an articulation joint configured to permit the end effector to articulate relative to the shaft portion;a datum portion positioned distally with respect to the articulation joint; anda drive assembly, comprising: a drive member configured to move the firing member in response to at least one driving motion from the motor, wherein the drive member is moveable during a firing stroke, wherein the firing stroke comprises a beginning and a completion, wherein at the beginning of the firing stroke none of the staples have been fired and the drive member is at a proximal position, and wherein at the completion of the firing stroke all of the staples have been fired and the drive member is at a distal position; anda stop configured to engage the datum portion to limit the movement of the drive member beyond the end of the firing stroke. 16. The surgical instrument of claim 15, wherein the stop is configured to travel a predetermined distance before engaging the datum portion. 17. The surgical instrument of claim 15, wherein the drive member further comprises a cutting member, wherein the cutting member comprises a cutting edge, and wherein the cutting edge and the stop define a predetermined distance therebetween. 18. The surgical instrument of claim 17, wherein the staple cartridge further comprises a cutting slot configured to receive the cutting edge. 19. The surgical instrument of claim 15, wherein the end effector further comprises: a plurality of jaws configured to capture tissue therebetween; anda cutting member configured to cut the captured tissue, wherein the stop is configured to engage the datum portion after the cutting member cuts the captured tissue. 20. The surgical instrument of claim 15, wherein the power source comprises a battery. 21. A surgical instrument, comprising: a housing assembly;a rotary motion generator;a shaft portion extending from the housing assembly;an end effector, comprising: a staple cartridge including a plurality of staples;a firing member configured to deploy the plurality of staples;a tissue cutting surface; anda datum portion positioned proximal to the staple cartridge;an articulation joint configured to permit the end effector to articulate relative to the shaft portion; anda drive assembly, comprising: a drive member moveable from a proximal position to a distal position during a firing stroke, wherein the firing stroke comprises: a beginning in which none of the staples have been fired and the drive member is in the proximal position; andan end in which all of the staples have been fired and the drive member is in the distal position, wherein the drive member is configured to move the firing member in response to at least one driving motion from the rotary motion generator; anda stop configured to engage the datum portion to limit the movement of the tissue cutting surface to the end of the firing stroke. 22. A surgical instrument, comprising: a housing assembly;a rotary motion generator;a first shaft portion extending from the housing assembly;a second shaft portion comprising a datum portion;an end effector extending from the second shaft portion, the end effector comprising: a staple cartridge including a plurality of staples;a firing member configured to deploy the plurality of staples; anda tissue cutting surface;an articulation joint configured to permit the end effector to articulate relative to the second shaft portion; anda drive assembly, comprising: a drive member configured to move the firing member in response to at least one driving motion from the rotary motion generator, wherein the drive member is moveable during a firing stroke, wherein the firing stroke comprises a beginning and an end, wherein at the beginning of the firing stroke none of the staples have been fired and the drive member is at a proximal position, wherein at the end of the firing stroke all of the staples have been fired and the drive member is at a distal position; anda stop configured to engage the datum portion to limit the movement of the tissue cutting surface at the end of the firing stroke. 23.
