The ventilation interface for sleep apnea therapy interfaces a ventilation device to the patient's airways. The ventilation interface includes a pair of nasal inserts made from flexible, resilient silicone which are oval shaped in cross-section and slightly tapered from a base proximal the ventilation supply to the distal tip end. A bead flange is disposed about the exterior of each insert at the distal end of the insert. A bleed port for release of exhaled air is defined through a conical vent projecting normally to the path of the incoming air flow, and continues through a nipple extending to the exterior of the air conduit. In one embodiment, a pair of nasal inserts are integral with a nasal cannula body, with bleed ports axially aligned with each insert. In another embodiment, each insert is independently connected to a separate, thin-walled, flexible supply line.

1. A respiratory interface for the treatment of breathing problems configured to be in flow communication with at least one of a user's nostrils, the respiratory interface comprising: at least one body, wherein a portion of the body is configured to contact at least one of a bottom of the user's nose and at least one of the user's nostrils;at least one nasal aperture defined at a proximal end of the at least one body; andat least one valve assembly coupled to the at least one body;wherein the valve assembly has at least one valve member that is configured to pivot to a closed position during exhalation;wherein the at least one valve member has a proximal surface and a distal surface;wherein the distal surface of the at least one valve member has at least a portion that is exposed to unfiltered atmosphere during use. 2. The respiratory interface of claim 1, wherein the at least one valve member repositions in response to at least one of an inhalation force and an exhalation force. 3. The respiratory interface of claim 1, wherein the at least one valve member is adapted to be in a partially closed position during exhalation. 4. The respiratory interface of claim 1, wherein the at least one valve member is configured to impede a fluid flow in at least one of a first direction and a second direction. 5. The respiratory interface of claim 4, wherein the at least one valve member is further configured to impede flow in the first direction more than in the second direction. 6. The respiratory interface of claim 5, wherein the first direction is an exhalation direction and the second direction is an inhalation direction. 7. The respiratory interface of claim 1, wherein the at least one valve member is movable from a closed position during inhalation. 8. The respiratory interface of claim 1, further comprising: at least one gas aperture operatively associated with the at least one valve assembly. 9. The respiratory interface of claim 1, further comprising: at least one flexible member to secure the respiratory interface to the user. 10. The respiratory interface of claim 1, wherein the respiratory interface is not connected to one of a ventilation system, interface tubing, and a gas supply during use for treatment. 11. The respiratory interface of claim 1, further comprising: at least one inhale aperture, wherein the at least one valve assembly is arranged between the at least one nasal aperture and the at least one inhale aperture. 12. The respiratory interface of claim 1, further comprising: at least one stop operatively associated with the at least one valve assembly, wherein the at least one stop extends across or into the at least one body. 13. The respiratory interface of claim 1, wherein the respiratory interface is adapted to use atmospheric air that does not pass through a filter during use for treatment. 17. The respiratory interface of claim 1, wherein the respiratory interface is adapted to use atmospheric air and to not connect to a ventilation system, tubing, or a gas supply during use for treatment. 18. The respiratory interface of claim 1, wherein the respiratory interface is adapted to use air that has not been affected by a ventilation system, interface tubing, a gas supply, or a filter during use for treatment. 19. A respiratory interface for the treatment of breathing problems configured to be in flow communication with at least one of a user's nostrils, the respiratory interface comprising: at least one body;at least one nasal aperture defined at a proximal end of the at least one body;at least one insert portion coupled with the at least one body, the at least one insert portion configured to insert into the at least one nostril of the user;at least one valve member coupled to the at least one body that is configured to close during exhalation, wherein the at least one valve member has a proximal surface and a distal surface wherein the distal surface of the at least one valve member has at least a portion that is exposed to unfiltered atmosphere during use;wherein the respiratory interface is not connected to tubing that delivers gas to the at least one body during use for treatment. 20. The respiratory interface of claim 19, further comprising at least one exhale aperture axially aligned with the at least one insert portion. 21. The respiratory interface of claim 19, wherein the at least one insert portion has at least a portion adjacent the at least one nasal aperture that protrudes outwardly. 22. The respiratory interface of claim 19, wherein the at least one insert portion has at least a portion adjacent the at least one nasal aperture that is rounded. 23. The respiratory interface of claim 19, wherein the at least one insert portion has at least one cross-sectional area that is oval shaped. 24. The respiratory interface of claim 19, wherein the at least one insert portion has a first-cross sectional area proximate the at least one nasal aperture, and a second cross-sectional area distal the at least one nasal aperture, wherein the second cross-sectional area is larger than the first cross-sectional area. 25. The respiratory interface of claim 19, further comprising: at least one flange wherein a width of the at least one flange is wider than a width of the at least one insert portion. 26. A respiratory interface for the treatment of breathing problems configured to be in flow communication with at least one of a user's nostrils, the respiratory interface comprising: at least one body wherein a portion of the at least one body is configured to contact the user's nose;at least one nasal aperture defined at a proximal end of the at least one body;at least one valve assembly coupled to the at least one body; andat least one inhale aperture having a surface that is exposed to unfiltered atmosphere during use;wherein the valve assembly has at least one valve member that is configured to pivot during one of inhalation and exhalation, wherein the at least one valve member is located closer to the at least one inhale aperture than the at least one nasal aperture. 27.
