The tension sensor of claim 1, wherein the load sensing pin is subjected to a shear load condition due to the force exerted by the flights on the reaction arm, and wherein tension in the chain is determined based on a sensed shear force. 6. The tension sensor of claim 1, further comprising a biasing element coupled between the reaction arm and the frame and exerting a biasing force on the reaction arm. 7. The tension sensor of claim 6, wherein the biasing element exerts the biasing force in a direction substantially parallel to the force exerted by the flights contacting the load pad. 8. The tension sensor of claim 6, wherein the biasing element exerts a biasing force in a direction substantially perpendicular to direction of travel of the flights and substantially perpendicular to an axis of the reaction arm. 9. The tension sensor of claim 6, wherein the biasing element includes at least one spring washer having a frusto-conical shape, compression of the spring washer inducing a spring force on the reaction arm. 10. The tension sensor of claim 6, wherein the biasing element includes a plurality of spring washers having a frusto-conical shape. 11. The tension sensor of claim 10, wherein the biasing force is adjusted by changing at least one of the number of spring washers and the orientation of at least one of the spring washers relative to the other spring washers. 12. The tension sensor of claim 6, wherein the biasing element includes a bolt connected between the reaction arm and the frame, a nut threaded onto an end of the bolt, and a plurality of spring washers positioned on the bolt and between the reaction arm and the frame. 13. The tension sensor of claim 12, wherein the biasing element is adjusted by tightening the nut. 14. The tension sensor of claim 12, wherein the biasing element includes a retaining washer and wherein the reaction arm includes a shoulder engaging the retaining washer when the nut is tightened a predetermined amount, thereby preventing over-compression of the biasing element. 15. The tension sensor of claim 1, wherein the reaction arm has an arm length, and wherein the load pad has a load pad length that is approximately 60% to 70% of the arm length. 16. A chain conveyor comprising: a conveyor frame including a first end and a second end, the conveyor frame supporting at least one sprocket;a reaction arm including a first end pivotably coupled to the frame, a second end opposite the first end, and a load pad;a chain including a plurality of flights, the chain being driven by the sprocket to cycle the flights between the first end and the second end of the frame, the flights moving in a first direction adjacent the load pad and contacting the load pad to exert a force on the reaction arm; anda load sensing pin coupled to the reaction arm and operable to sense the force exerted by the flights. 17. The chain conveyor of claim 16, wherein the reaction arm is pivotably coupled to the frame by a pivot pin defining a pivot axis, the pivot axis being substantially perpendicular to the first direction. 18. The chain conveyor of claim 16, wherein the load sensing pin defines a pin axis, the pin axis being substantially parallel to the first direction. 19. The chain conveyor of claim 16, wherein the load sensing pin is subjected to a shear load condition due to the force exerted by the flights on the reaction arm, and wherein tension in the chain is determined based on a sensed shear force. 20. The chain conveyor of claim 16, wherein the first end of the frame is moveable with respect to the second end, and wherein the chain conveyor further comprises an actuator for moving the first end of the frame relative to the second end of the frame to adjust the tension in the chain. 21. The chain conveyor of claim 16, further comprising a biasing element coupled between the reaction arm and the frame, the biasing element exerting a biasing force on the reaction arm in a direction substantially parallel to the force exerted by the flights. 22. The chain conveyor of claim 21, wherein the biasing element is adjustable to change the biasing force exerted on the reaction arm. 23. The chain conveyor of claim 22, wherein the biasing element includes a plurality of spring washer having a frusto-conical shape, wherein the biasing force is adjusted by changing at least one of the number of spring washers and the orientation of at least one of the spring washers relative to the other spring washers. 24. The chain conveyor of claim 21, wherein the biasing element includes a bolt connected between the reaction arm and the frame, a nut threaded onto an end of the bolt, and a plurality of spring washers positioned on the bolt and between the reaction arm and the frame. 25. A spring assembly for a tension sensor assembly in an endless conveyor, the conveyor including a frame, at least one chain, and a plurality of flights coupled to the chain, the sensor assembly including a moveable arm and a sensor, the spring assembly comprising: a pin extending between the arm and the frame; anda plurality of spring washers for applying a biasing force on the arm, each spring washer having a frustoconical shape, compression of the spring washers inducing a spring force. 26. The spring assembly of claim 25, wherein the biasing force is adjusted by changing at least one of the number of spring washers and the orientation of at least one of the spring washers relative to the other spring washers. 27. The spring assembly of claim 25, further comprising a nut threaded onto an end of the pin.
