A child-resistant container including a container body, a lid, and at least one resilient tab is provided. The lid is pivotable about an axis through a hinge joining the lid to the container body to open and close the container. The resilient tab has a proximal portion fixed to the lid, a distal portion projecting from the lid, and at least one abutment on the distal portion. The abutment on the distal portion of the tab is normally biased into engagement with an abutment on the container body when the lid is in its closed position. The distal portion of the tab is displaceable against the bias to disengage the abutment of the tab from the abutment of the container. Displacement of the tab releases the lid so that it can be pivoted about the hinge to open the container.

1. A child-resistant container comprising: (a) a container body having a base, a sidewall extending upward from the base, and a mouth;(b) a lid having a proximal portion mounted in pivotable relation to the container body by a hinge and a distal portion pivotable between a seated position, wherein t
1. A child-resistant container comprising: (a) a container body having a base, a sidewall extending upward from the base, and a mouth;(b) a lid having a proximal portion mounted in pivotable relation to the container body by a hinge and a distal portion pivotable between a seated position, wherein the lid covers the mouth, and a raised position, wherein the mouth is at least in part exposed; and(c) a mechanism for restricting movement of the lid in its seated position, the mechanism comprising: (i) at least one resilient tab having a proximal portion on one of the container body and the lid, a distal portion projecting from the proximal portion, an intermediate portion between the proximal and distal portions, an inside portion facing toward the container, an outside portion facing away from the container, and at least one proximally-facing first abutment on the distal portion;(ii) a second abutment on the other of the container body and the lid, the first abutment being normally biased into an engagement position with the second abutment of the container when the lid is seated, thus latching the lid closed, the inside portion of the resilient tab at its intermediate and distal portions being at least normally spaced from the container and the outside portion of the resilient tab being accessible to be pushed to bend the inside portion toward the container while the first abutment is in the engagement position to disengage the mechanism, allowing the distal portion of the lid to be pivoted about the hinge to open the container; and(iii) a shield on the container that at least partially blocks access to the resilient tab both above and below the engagement of the first abutment with the second abutment when the lid is in the seated position. 2. The child-resistant container of claim 1, wherein the at least one resilient tab is a single resilient tab per container. 3. The child-resistant container of claim 1, wherein the resilient tab distal portion projects generally vertically from the tab proximal portion when the lid is in its seated position and when the base of the container is generally horizontal. 4. The child-resistant container of claim 1, wherein the distal portion of the lid has a front edge and the tab is positioned such that the front edge extends beyond the tab proximal portion when the lid is in the seated position. 5. The child-resistant container of claim 4, wherein one of the container body and the lid includes a guard that projects outwardly with respect to the proximal portion of the resilient tab and defines an area that is sized and shaped such that at least a portion of the tab intermediate or distal portion is within the area defined by the guard. 6. The child-resistant container of claim 5, wherein the guard is integral with one of the container body and the lid. 7. The child-resistant container of claim 6, wherein the second abutment is on the guard. 8. The child-resistant container of claim 1, wherein the lid and the mouth form a moisture-tight seal. 9. The child-resistant container of claim 1, wherein the first abutment and the second abutment comprise substantially horizontal engagement surfaces when the base of the container body is generally horizontal. 10. The child-resistant container of claim 1, wherein the first abutment and the second abutment comprise engagement surfaces that are substantially perpendicular to a central axis of the container. 11. The child resistant container of claim 1 wherein the container has a moisture ingress rate of less than 1500 micrograms per day, at 80% relative humidity and 72° F. (22° C.). 12. The child-resistant container of claim 11, the lid comprising a sealing plug which is disposed within the mouth of the container body when the lid is in the seated position. 13. The child resistant container of claim 12, wherein the sealing plug provides an interference fit with the mouth of the container body when the lid is in the seated position. 14. A child-resistant container comprising: (a) a container body having a base, a sidewall extending upward from the base, and a mouth;(b) a lid having a proximal portion mounted in pivotable relation to the container body by a hinge and a distal portion pivotable between a seated position, wherein the lid covers the mouth, and a raised position, wherein the mouth is at least in part exposed; and(c) a mechanism for restricting movement of the lid in its seated position, the mechanism consisting essentially of: (i) a single resilient tab having a proximal portion on one of the container body and the lid, a distal portion projecting from the proximal portion, an intermediate portion between the proximal and distal portions, an inside portion facing toward the container, an outside portion facing away from the container, and at least one proximally-facing first abutment on the distal portion;(ii) a second abutment on the other of the container body and the lid, the first abutment being normally biased into an engagement position with the second abutment of the container when the lid is seated, thus latching the lid closed, the inside portion of the resilient tab at its intermediate and distal portions being at least normally spaced from the container and the outside portion of the resilient tab being accessible to be pushed to bend the inside portion toward the container while the first abutment is in the engagement position to disengage the mechanism, allowing the distal portion of the lid to be pivoted about the hinge to open the container; and(iii) a shield that at least partially blocks access to the resilient tab both above and below the engagement of the first abutment with the second abutment when the lid is in the seated position. 15. The child-resistant container of claim 14, wherein one of the container body and the lid includes a guard that projects outwardly with respect to the proximal portion of the resilient tab and defines an area that is sized and shaped such that at least a portion of the tab intermediate or distal portion is within the area defined by the guard. 16. The child-resistant container of claim 15, wherein the second abutment is on the guard. 17. The child-resistant container of claim 14, wherein the lid and the mouth form a moisture-tight seal. 18. The child-resistant container of claim 14, the lid comprising a sealing plug which is disposed within the mouth of the container body when the lid is in the seated position. 19. The child resistant container of claim 18, wherein the sealing plug provides an interference fit with the mouth of the container body when the lid is in the seated position. 20. The child resistant container of claim 14 wherein the container has a moisture ingress rate of less than 1500 micrograms per day, at 80% relative humidity and 72° F. (22° C.).
