Ammunition which includes a bullet having an effective caliber that is larger than its nominal caliber, comprised of a bullet body with a longitudinal cavity in the forward end, and one or more bores extending from the cavity to bore openings on the exterior of the bullet. In use, target media is gathered in the cavity and ejected under force through the bore openings, increasing the damage done by the bullet. Preferably, the bullet cavity and bores are filled with a polymeric or elastomeric material.

1. A bullet, comprising: a generally cylindrical body having a tapered tip section having a forward end,a longitudinal cavity having an open end at the forward end and an inner end enclosed within the body, andone or more bores connecting with and extending from the longitudinal cavity to one or more bore openings; anda releasable elastomeric filler packed into the longitudinal cavity and/or the one or more bores, said elastomeric filler being solidified within the cavity and bores and being releasable on impact to eject from the bores into soft tissue target without mushrooming of the tip section forward end. 2. The bullet of claim 1, further comprising an irritant payload packed in the longitudinal cavity, or one or more bores, or both. 3. The bullet of claim 1, wherein the one or more bores connect with and extend from the inner end of the longitudinal cavity to the bore opening(s). 4. The bullet of claim 1, where there are two bores extending perpendicularly from the inner end of the longitudinal cavity from opposite sides of the longitudinal cavity at locations 180 degrees apart. 5. The bullet of claim 1, further comprising a frangible jacket fitted over the body. 6. The bullet of claim 5, wherein the frangible jacket has an open end aligned with the longitudinal cavity open end or has one or more openings aligned with the one or more bore openings. 7. The bullet of claim 1, wherein the bullet has an effective caliber that is larger than a nominal caliber of the bullet. 8. The bullet of claim 1, wherein the releasable elastomeric filler is selected from the group consisting of rubber, copolymer rubber, silicone rubber, urethane elastomers, and cellulose acetate butyrate. 9. The bullet of claim 8,wherein the releasable elastomeric filler comprises oil modified block copolymer rubber or cellulose acetate butyrate. 10. The bullet of claim 1, wherein the releasable polymer filler comprises an elastomer is selected from the group consisting of rubber, copolymer rubber, silicone rubber, urethane elastomer, and cellulose acetate butyrate. 11. A bullet, comprising: a general cylindrical body having a tapered tip section having a forward end,a longitudinal cavity having as open end at the forward end an inner end enclosed within the body, andone more bores connecting with and extending from the longitudinal cavity to one or more bore openings; anda releasable polymer filler packed into the longitudinal cavity and/or the one or more bores, said polymer filler being solidified within the cavity and bores and being releasable on impact to eject from the bores into a soft tissue target without mushrooming of the tip forward end. 12. The bullet of claim 11, wherein the one or more bores connect with and extend from the inner end of the longitudinal cavity to the bore opening(s). 13. The bullet of claim 12, where there are two bores extending perpendicularly from the inner end of the longitudinal cavity from opposite of the longitudinal cavity at locations 180 degrees apart. 14. The bullet of claim 11, further comprising a frangible jacket fitted over the body. 15. The bullet of claim 14, wherein the frangible jacket has an open end aligned with the longitudinal cavity open end or has one or more openings aligned with the one or more bore openings. 16. A catridge for firearms, comprising: a cartridge case;a primer;a powder charge;a generally cylindrical body having a tapered tip section having forward end,a longitudinal cavity having a subsantially open end at the forward end of the tip section and inner end enclosed within the body, one or more bores connecting with and extending laterally from the longitudinal cavity to bore opening(s); anda releasable elastomeric filler packed in the longitudinal cavity or bores, or both, said elastomeric filler being solidified within the cavity or bores and being releasable on impact to eject from the bores into a soft tissue target, without mushrooming of the tip section forward end. 17. The cartridge for firearms of claims 16, wherein the releasable elastomeric filler selected from the group consisting of rubber, copolymer rubber, silicone rubber, urethane elastomers, and cellulose acetrate butyrate. 18. The cartridge for firearms of claim 17, wherein the releasable polymer filler comprises oil modified block copolymer rubber or cellulose acetate butyrate. 19. The cartridge for firearms of claim 16, further comprising an irritant payload packed in the longitudinal cavity, or one or more bores, or both. 20. The cartridge for firearms of claims 16, wherein the one or more bores connect with and extend from the inner end of the longitudinal cavity to the bore opening(s). 21. The cartridge for firearms of claim 20, wherein there are two bores extending perpendicularly from the inner end of the longitudinal cavity from opposite sides of the longitudinal cavity at locations 180 degrees apart. 22. The cartridge for firearms of claim 16, further comprising a frangible jacket fitted over the body. 23. The cartridge for firearms of claim 22, wherein the frangible jacket has as open end aligned with the longitudinal cavity open end or has one or more openings aligned with the one or more bore openings.
